This years #Baja500 was insane. With everything that happened with the truck and team, we are thankful to cross the finish line. But before any race or result, we always put the safety of our team and people involved first. Unfortunately, one of our team members had a freak accident when one of our pressure pros (tanks that fuel our race truck) exploded, while Genaro was standing next to it getting it ready for the pit stop. He will make a full recovery thank God!! We have set up a GoFundMe to hopefully cover all of his medical expenses and so he can concentrate on getting better. We are asking all of you and our off-road family, anything helps, even spreading the word and sharing the page! Thank you! One time while OneRepublic was in pre-production for their 2014 American tour, I called the Honda dealer in Nashville and purchased 5 scooters. The dealer was a bit surprised to sell the entire stock at one time, but we got free key chains out of the deal. I didn’t tell him it was for a band, so when a bus with the toy trailer pulled up to collect them, he actually wasn’t that surprised because it’s Nashville. We rode those things all God’s green earth in search of the best hipster coffee a middle age man on a scooter can find. One time out West we all pulled up to an Applebee’s and it felt like a scene from Pee Wee’s big adventure. I still have my scooter. Oh! And I almost forgot, when we got to the Sprint Center in Kansas City for the tour rehearsals, another band member decided he wanted one so I called the local dealer and he delivered it directly backstage to arena. - @onemarkonly on Instagram

Got a little seat time in the #S13DriftTruck Friday and Saturday before I ran out of skill. I lost it during initiation and slid right into a barrier. I think the cage prevented the damage from being much worse. The front wheel made first contact with the barrier and still managed to stay together enough to keep air in the tire, didn’t help that there were plenty of other damaged parts. Only a select few have ever won both Meguiar’s People’s choice and #Summernats Grand Champion in the same year. They are; Peter Fitzpatrick, Aaron Fitzpatrick, Mick Fabar and Ben Sargent - with this ultra-slick 1971 HQ #Monaro. This was the coupe’s third rebuild, with the previous incarnation dominating the Summernats Street category for a number of years – included taking out Street King and Top Judged Street at Summernats 14. Two years later, Ben pulled the car off the road for an exhaustive five-year, full-elite build – mostly completed in his home garage with the help of some dedicated mates. Debuted as part of the Great Meguiar’s Uncover at Summernats 23 (2010), Ben then spent an additional two years improving the finish and presentation of the already Top 10 car. In 2012, it returned to take out the People’s Choice/Grand Champion double header. Winning Meguiar’s Peoples Choice had a lot to do with Ben grabbing the Grand Champion sword, as he only beat out the storming, six-time Grand Champion, Peter Fitzpatrick by one solitary point! Mechanically, the Monaro runs a #Holden V8 stroked to 327ci, M21 four-speed manual, and completely smoothed over 9in diff – all rolling on Intro billet wheels. Inside was wall-to-wall leather complete with flat floor and custom-made dash filed with aftermarket gauges. Salvation Mountain is a literal man-made mountain 28 years in the making, covered in half a million gallons of latex paint. Grandpa Ray died in here, he was a butcher at Vons in San Bernardino over the mountain from his dez trailer for 30 years, alcoholic. Avoided visiting the whole four years I lived a few towns over. But did on my way out of Mojave. My dad was raised in an abusive trailer in Vallejo and ran away at 14 to hop trains cross country to find his older runaway sister, my Aunt Ranita. Pop joined military to become a jet mechanic, and after two tours Marine in Vietnam as a sharpshooter, gnar PTSD, remorse and retreat from misguided anger, devotion remainder of his life (died at 42) to getting degrees to counsel traumatized vets. When I finally saw this craphole I wrote to my mom to thank her and Pop for bringing our fam so far in life. She comes from trauma too but won’t say here, point is my parents figured how to leave violence behind. I never got raised voices, spank, or grounding, was supported through college, which my mom funded by working at USC in admin so I could go free, supported my life as an artist kid and later a queer rebellious weirdo. Lot of media Rn about ending la chancla culture, stoked on it; my dad’s trashy father (who I didn’t know) and my lame Grandma Juanita, who flaked and left her sis, my aunt Trinie, to raise him (that why I’m named after her) saw no probs w yelling, spanking, demeaning, turning blind eye, neglecting. May those parenting styles burn down in these fires. Violence never an answer. I’m not into it, and even the civil rights leaders who moved past protests into policy changing in elected official roles, have rejected violence as functional forward movement. Hatred doesn’t work and I stand behind announcing my family legacy learned that the hard way. The chain is broken and no oppressive aggression, crap parenting, and small mind poverty mentality allowed in this house. “Can’t do this can’t do that, shut up and have some respect” thanks Mom and Pop for never uttering. My grandparents all sucked, which I used to lament ashamed, but now I’m just glad I’m ok. I have the gentlest man and kiddo and I’m so grateful to prior sacrifice for enabling that. HISTORIC PRINT #28: 𝚂𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚔𝚜 & 𝙱𝚘𝚗𝚗𝚎𝚢 𝚊𝚝 𝚁𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚒𝚍𝚎 (𝟷𝟿𝟻𝟽) The Sparks & Bonney team wait in line outside Riverside International Raceway back in 1957 to check in for the December 1st 250 mile USAC Stock Car Race. The former Bill Stroppe 56 Mercury was now painted the familiar S&B team colors of blue with a white racing stripe. Reports on the number of entries range from 33 to 36 and owners and car numbers arent listed. We checked the February 23, 1958 USAC entry list at the same venue and the S&B car was running the same number. The program listed Jim McCorkindale as the driver but we have it that Billy Garrett drove and finished close to the front. On the far right you can barely make out the nose of the 57 Merc wearing the number 5. Using our same logic weve determined this was Jimmy bryans ride and that he finished in 11th in the December Race. 🔥Wouldnt this be cool hanging on your wall? So the third leg of Gold Rush was quite an adventurous one. After our lunch stop in Mammoth we were cruising through Death Valley at a smooth 160 when we hit a Tumbleweed that punctured a radiator. We tried filling it with coolant at the only has station around but 3 miles later it had all leaked out leaving us stranded with no cell service. We were fortunate that other teams loaded us up with water and a local stopped, who had cell service, and hung out with us for about two hours. He guided the tow truck to our exact location and after five hours in Death Valley we were picked up for the long drive back to Vegas. And of course the tow truck driver was named Elvis. We dropped it at the dealership to get it fixed and rolled up to the Encore in the tow truck.
