I used to pray to God to change my skin color because I hated it and hated the burdens that came with it. It wasn’t until I saw people who looked like me tell me that our skin is beautiful did I truly believe it. • I am not posting this for pity or to make people feel bad for me, but I am posting this to show people how much their actions and words can be hurtful and traumatizing even if they are unintentional. I shouldn’t have had to grow up feeling like I was less than my peers just because I have more melanin in my skin.
