My life is shifting. What once served me, serves me no more. What used to light me up, has shifted. As I’m sure you can see by the content of my account. I have been depressed, I have worked to the point my life had fallen apart, I have won awards and got really weird about it, I have lost awards and drank myself into oblivion, I have done the drugs, I searched for external validation, I have been fused with my identity as chef and restauranteur, I told myself I am only as good as the food I make, I have moved through many different phases in my relationship, I am a father, a husband, I have started 3, 7 figure businesses, and another that is still growing, I have outgrown relationships, grew into new ones, I have lead teams of 100 people, sometimes not very well, but I learned a shit ton doing it. I have bought out partners and partners bought me out. I have gone from letting my emotions run me to, holy shit, how is this life I am living, so beautiful. I am surrounded by support, I have everything I have ever needed, my life is stable and relationships are strong. The kicker is, Why do I have to work so hard for the things I already have? I do not have all the answers, but I do know, I have an absolute shit ton of life experience. I have a toolbox full of grade A tools and I am ready and called to share them with you. I will be building out a system to assist CEO’s, executives, young professionals that are caught in the hamster wheel. That seem to “have it all” yet struggle on the inside, and know they could do better. If you are one of these people, and may not know where to go, reach out. I’ve always loved the 60s, especially the fashion, music and stories from that era. I started my blog back in 2013 to share all my favourite things about it! I have a collection of over 300 vintage patterns mainly from the 60s and 70s, bought from Etsy, thrift stores and from swaps. But if you follow my account you’ll have noticed that I’m not so heavy on the vintage sewing as much as I used to be (too many good indie patterns out there!). I always love pulling out my old patterns and giving them a modern twist every now and then though. Here are a few of my faves and some newbies. . 1. Simplicity 4930 – early 1960s 2. I know it’s so confusing I am confused too. San Diego & Orange County were allowed to reopen Monday. • • San Francisco and the Bay Area are still closed but @speakerpelosi obviously does not care and couldn’t resist indulging in a blow out. • • Los Angeles County found out today they can work at 25% capacity inside but only services that can’t be done outside or in cases where an outside space isn’t available 🙄😳 • • Riverside county sent hair services back inside but nail technicians are still supposed to work outside in the triple digit heat!! (As far as I know this information is correct and up to date at the time of posting) • •This is not acceptable. It is all extremely unjust. I am livid for service professionals with licenses in an extremely regulated industry. Thats 17 times better than most savings accounts! Would you prefer $1 or $17? (Youll earn even more with compounding!) For those still needing access to an ATM or teller, a two account approach is a great strategy! Linking an online HISA with a credit union or bank ensures you maximize your savings while still being able to transfer money between accounts so you can withdraw cash when you need! Most important when choosing where to keep your hard earned savings is the security of your money! The CDIC is a federal crown corporation that protects accounts (up to $100k) in case a member institution fails (EQ is a member, along with the Big 5). Credit unions have a similar protection mechanism depending on whether they are provincially or federally regulated. Some of these online banks are even owned by the Big 5! @jenniferzhenyu & i traded ig direct messages at 1 or 2 in the morning (as one does) and floated how we could help our home. would be lying if i didn’t say we are pretty tired, missing sleep, and i have had a consistent build up of unanswered texts to friends for the past few weeks (😅), but i am SOOO inspired by what a couple of messages have led us to create. @welcome.to.chinatown just launched new branding designed by the incredibly talented @harry_trinh . harry really took our vision and gave it a polished facelife. in two weeks since launching our “Help Chinatown Help Our Heroes” campaign, we have put back $18K into chinatown small businesses while feeding 2200 frontline workers. there’s still so much more work to do, so many more learnings we have to take in, and there are more ideas than hours in the day. jen and i both agree that the outpouring of support is what’s been most inspiring. this was really scary to launch bc we’re both learning as we go, reminding ourselves we needed to walk before we could run. everyone that has reached out to pitch in, share a post, donate money, etc....i am so inspired and it’s really what keeps me going when im burnt out. also huge, huge shoutout to wonder woman @jenniferzhenyu . i don’t know how one is so consistently peppy, happy, intelligent, and kind. thank goodness we were close before and sunday dinners are now brainstorming sessions via google hangouts. - @veeeeleeee on Instagram

Hey everyone, I wrote a chapter in a book that is being published called “Her Unraveling.” My chapter is about my injury, and what I remember about the event. I write about how becoming a quadriplegic has changed the way I look at the world and myself- the good, the bad, and all the emotions involved. I had a very hard time getting started as it brought up a lot of emotions that had been suppressed for a long time; in turn, writing this chapter was very therapeutic for me, and I hope it will help others realize how important it is to be vulnerable and not be afraid to let your guard down and be emotional, in any way you might need to at the time. for pretty much my entire life, i’ve been battling, resisting, hiding from, and trying to escape my masculinity. but recently, i’ve been feeling a deep inner peace, love, acceptance, and dare i say, embracing of it. i honestly never thought i could feel such inner peace and such deep, radiant self-love. i feel happy. i feel full. and i truly love myself, and this vessel that i embody in this intensely scary, beautiful experience of life. ////// i used to hide my face behind a huge beard, in part to feel more safe in this transphobic society, but also as a way to hide my sadness, my inner battles, and honestly just hide from myself. when i first starting transitioning, i would rather be caught dead than let anyone see me with even a whisper of stubble on my softening face. i would have the worst anxiety attacks if i couldn’t shave for some reason before going out, and didn’t even feel comfortable letting my close loved ones see me like that. i hates seeing myself like that. i spent countless painful hours doing laser and electrolysis sessions trying to erase any telling signs of masculinity from my face. i used to look at myself in the mirror and want to die. i no longer feel that way, and now this face fuzz feels so sweetly soft, when i allow it to grow. now, when i look in the mirror, i am deeply in love with the strong, powerful woman looking back at me. no more running from my ghosts. no more hiding my beautiful, perfect face from the world, or from myself. i now understand that the external nature of this vessel has absolutely no impact on the magical, motherly, breathtakingly beautiful goddess that i am, and i am overjoyed to own that to the fullest extent of my magical abilities. ////// i had to go extreme, deep femme for years in order to finally find balance again, and it feels so amazing to lovingly return to this fluid space and fluid expression. it feels like coming home. there is so much change and uncertainty in my life right now, but i feel so solid in my love and in my body right now, that i know that everything is going to be okay. ////// deepest gratitude and love to my partners, olive, and angela, for being such a huge part of this journey. - @disappearingardenwitch on Instagram

I maxed out my scale at 375 pounds. Flashing lights and error sign. Extra long tie that barely fit. Size 24 dress shirt. Difficulty getting in and out of sedans and side stepping through doors. Slip on shoes. Unable to fit into a booth at a restaurant. This was my life for a many years. I remember that error sign on the scale. I wasnt upset. I was resigned. I thought What does it matter that Ill soon be 400 pounds?! My 5XL shirt was already getting tight. ⁣ ⁣ A diet that was mostly processed food. A lot of soda, chips, candy, etc. A lot. Eating just happened. I was completely disassociated with what went into my mouth and into my body. I ate to eat. It was about volume and getting to that full stage. All day, everyday.⁣ ⁣ It was awareness that led to my weight loss. I was simply eating too much and what I was eating lacked the nutrients my body needed. Over a few years of conscious food choices and some movement I shed 200 pounds. I went from that size 24 dress shirt to a 15, which means 9 of neck. ⁣ ⁣ This is part of my story. Im not embarrassed by it. Going through this journey has shaped who I am today. Its why I post what I do. Ive gained a deeper understanding of myself, food, and holistic health. I share so that others can understand me a little better and see that physical health isnt about restrictions and strict rules. Its about feeding your body and mind and that food is good for you. Im proud of that man on the left because he believed in himself enough to give me the life I have today. He worked hard physically, mentally, and emotionally. Ok, I’m reposting this with the correct year this time 🤣 (thanks for pointing out my COVID brain, @mlle_mads!! I owe you one). As Netta said, what’s 90 years between friends?! As a child, I remember being terrified of the ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the period known as Aseret Yemei Teshuvah/Ten Days of Repentance.  Fun fact, they’re also known as Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe, or, in slang Hebrew, the Horrible Days) which didn’t help me much.  Adults constantly telling me that they hope I’m inscribed in the book of life is some heavy shit when you’re an impressionable kid with a vivid imagination.  Three books, we’re told, are opened in heaven on Rosh Hashanah.  One for the truly righteous, one for the utterly wicked, and the third as a “festivus for the rest of us” 😉 The fates of the righteous and wicked are inscribed immediately, while the fate of the in-betweeners is suspended until Yom Kippur.  Can you see why this would be distressing as a child?! As an adult, I have a different appreciation for these days.  Elul provides an opportunity for me to go inward and evaluate my character, Rosh Hashanah sets the stage that HaShem is the center of our world, and Yom Kippur allows me to repent past sins and commit not to transgress again. Three actions can avert our fate: repentance, prayer, and charity.  The verdict of our trial, so to speak, is determined not just by our past deeds but also by our attitude toward our misdeeds and our attempts to rectify them through growth.  While Aseret Yemei Teshuvah translate to Ten Days of Repentance, Teshuva translates directly as Return or Answer.  The ten days are our opportunity to return once again to the process we began in Elul, of looking within, and layering on top of it our lessons from Rosh Hashanah, of centering HaShem in our lives, to find the answers we seek.   And so, we will continue to seek out anyone we may have wronged over the past year, we will pray for forgiveness for going against HaShem’s mitzvot, and we will find opportunities to be more charitable in our communities.  Shanah Tova and Gmar Chatimah Tova ❤️ - @livingjewishly on Instagram

Turn fear 😬 into courage 💪 One of the easiest ways to change how we feel during the day is to slow down our breathing. When we are fearful or anxious, our breathing is quick and shallow. Slower breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system and moves us out of our flight, fight, freeze (stress) response. Take a moment to notice if you are starting your day feeling fearful or uncertain. Acknowledge that feeling and thank it for working to keep you safe and alerting you to the unknowns of the day ahead. Then, try taking five breaths using pursed-lip breathing to transform fear into courage. Breathe in through the nose and slowly breathe out through the mouth with pursed lips (like you are blowing out a candle or spinning a pinwheel – no candle or pinwheel required!). Notice how these slow, pursed lip breaths can change feelings of fear into feelings of courage. I wouldnt usually make a post like this because I truly believe that the trans experience has nothing at all to do with how we look or who you see, being trans isnt about hormones, surgeries, bathrooms or birth certificates, its about who we know ourselves to be. ⁣ ⁣ I revealed my gender 15+ years ago but today marks 10 years since I started masculinising gender affirming hormones, testosterone. ⁣ ⁣ For those who need and/or seek them, hormones are suicide prevention for trans people of all genders and Im grateful I have access. Since 2017, theyve served as the Outreach Director for State Senator William N. Brownsberger, with a dedicated focus on harm reduction, drug law reform and the state’s 2020 redistricting effort. Quinn has served as the Co-Chair of the LGBTQ Caucus at the Massachusetts State House since 2018 and was appointed to the Senate Climate Assessment Action Team by Senate President Karen E. Spilka to advise on the development of a workplace gender bias and sexual harassment survey and assist with the implementation of resulting recommendations. Previously, they worked for 2 years in the House of Representatives, contributing to the development of the Harm Reduction & Drug Law Reform Caucus, and at MassEquality, to build politically powerful campaigns to achieve electoral and policy victories. Mark Martinez is a Policy and Budget Advisor in the Office of Senator Patricia D. Jehlen. Mark grew up in Western Mass and has worked on policy on the national and state level. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Western New England University and his Law Degree from Northeastern University. In his current role his policy area focuses are economic development, housing, criminal justice and the environment. It’s funny because I see many trans women posting every Tuesday, and I believe it’s important for visibility to help normalize being trans, but the fact of the matter is, I don’t have that many pics of myself pre-transition. I didn’t like my reflection then, and I’m only beginning to like it now. At that time, taking a selfie seemed pointless. Now though, the idea of taking a selfie and posting it to social media means a lot more to me and the community.
