Raw post ✔️ I’ve been seeing a psychologist for the past 7 weeks and it’s something I am actually really proud of. A year ago I would have been pretty embarrassed to talk about this because it would have felt like I was too weak or unintelligent to figure things out in my own. What I’ve realised now is that finally taking the step to seek professional help is one of the bravest things I’ve ever done. After I filled in a test, she informed me that my results showed extreme levels of anxiety and depression, which felt very weird to hear but also made a lot of sense. I’ve needed this type of help for as long as I can remember and have always carried a lot of sadness but my ego held me back and as a result I let my values down in different ways. I don’t want to live like that anymore, I want to be a man in this world who is very happy, very purposeful and very real 🔥 I’ve already learned so much about mastering my self awareness and even though it’s early days, I’m noticing these massive changes in how I deal with people and situations. Every day I practice observing my feelings and thoughts without judgment and it’s really helping me to tackle things more effectively and also be more understanding of other people’s emotions/reactions. I’ll share more about this as I go because I’m honestly loving everything I’m learning and life is too short to hold back from growing, sharing and communicating on deep incredible levels 🙏🏼 - @portagram on Instagram

I knew I wanted more but didn’t feel worthy of where god was leading me , full of anxiety I jumped on a plane ✈️ with a short 3 days notice — my husband stunned that I was leaving and he didn’t even understand where or what I was doing — I just asked him to trust me — it was in that moment I took a chance on myself — I traveled cross country alone to Vegas to work on me — even though I was scared — I did it anyways 😭🙏🏻💫💞 Guess what ?! I came out on the other side stronger then ever !! As you can see today the impact this moment had on me ... but it impacted my entire life including my marriage , family and biz 😭 now we are stronger because I took that leap and started working on myself taking a leap of faith that turned into a purpose within my soul !! Retired Corporal Steve Polley (#252) started his career at La Habra PD in 1990 after serving as a Paratrooper in the United States Army 101st Airborne. He was a field training officer, SWAT team member, motor, detective and worked on a meth lap task force. While working in that assignment, it was discovered he was diagnosed with cancer which was deemed to be a service connected injury. He recovered from cancer & returned to work. Steve served as a Patrol Officer, Traffic Motor, Detective, S.W.A.T. team operator & negotiator, Field Training Officer & as an Honor Guard Officer. Steve retired in 2010 after 20 years of distinguished service. He returned to the La Habra Police Department and worked as a Reserve Police Officer until 2015. On September 19th 2020, Retired La Habra Police Corporal Steve Polley (#252) and his wife Jeannie received devastating news; the cancer has returned and is terminal. Steve was my training officer, colleague, friend, former roommate & #brotherinblue - He is surrounded by his remarkable wife, incredible step-son & his amazing friends & family. I’m ok but I’m not ok! These last couple of months have been really tough, mentally and physically draining. Dealing with injury, surgery and the loss of my Opi and two others who were a big part of my London journey. I always put my life and my problems into perspective and in the grand scheme of things there are people far worse than me and dealing with much worse. But that doesn’t make things easier for me. I still have to feel, mourn and negotiate my feelings how I know how. We all deal with things in our own way and it’s ok. Working in an industry that requires you to lift people up and be that positive ray of light can sometimes be the hardest thing. When all you want to do is sit in your room and cry. (True Story) I know things will be better, I’ll get stronger and my memories of my loved ones will last forever. Don’t neglect your feelings, bring them to the surface and face them, acknowledge them and learn from them. With all good intentions, these words make me compassionately angry... Just focus on the Positives Dont worry about it. Youve got it good, The denial of anothers experience is deeply, deeply damaging. It’s a insidious form of enslavement that keeps us from the fullness of felt experience, and it is so difficult to see for how prevalent it is. However you can set yourself free... Like many of us, I had learned to deny my own experience as a child. And I wish I had realised it sooner, as it would have prevented a lot of pain, heartache and confusion. Just to create some scope; if we zoom out from the personal space to the culture space, weve seen this inability to listen, empathize and communicate on the broader scale, with BLM, with Womens Issues, with Mens Issues, Environmental issues, Mental Health Issues, Corona Issues. The list goes on… This cultural programming of suppressing experience is ancient, passed down to us from ancestor to ancestor (for many reasons) until it landed here now, in your body, in your experience, probably in your day today. The ramifications of a lack of attunement are huge. I would argue most of the issues on our planet, personal and societal, could be traced back to a lack of emotional awareness, attunement, and communication. I wish I had sooner figured this out, as it was at the root of many of the issues I faced. The guilt I felt for trying to numb out. The wasted time trying to make 7 figure businesses that did not really mean anything to me, The internal and external anger negative loops I could not find a way out of for sometime. The deep frustration for not being able to connect with others in a way that I really wanted in life. If this resonates its likely you have un-healed trauma, but you can set yourself free. It is first owning your experience in a safe container. No matter how terrible and/or magnificent. Then we can begin to re-claim our POWER and SOVEREIGNTY. We alchemise the led into gold. This big smile is for a very good reason😄 For the past 2 years I have been putting off having a third major surgery, a second section of my small bowel removed and a possible outcome of a stoma. I was told by all my specialists that the narrowing of my bowel would only result in full closure of it, this is what happened after my pancreatic cancer removal in 2018. I was not mentally ready to undergo another major surgery and my body wasn’t strong enough to cope so i told my surgeon I was going to control it by diet and only have an op if I was unable to do so or if my body was no longer thriving, a path they didn’t recommend but nevertheless they supported my choice. I won’t lie, it’s not been easy, in fact at times it’s took me to some dark places but with determination, positive influences, good mental space, amazing support and dedication from my loved ones I’ve only gone and made it!!! My second MRI of 2020 has come back...CLEAR! You have no idea what this feels like! Honestly if I can give you anything from my exerpiences please please take from me some positivity, belief in yourself and inner strength! Eat from the earth, live organically and love with all your soul!
