I love sweet kids’ books. ‘The Kissing Hand’ is definitely on my list of heart-warmers. It fits very well for kindergartners at the beginning of the year because of the anxiety they must face leaving their safety and starting something new. Although, about 75% of my class has attended Pre-school or the equivalent, I still think it’s a perfect beginning of the year book fit that hits home for a lot of kids. I have a Listening Center as one of my Independent Centers and kids respond to the book after they have listened to it. I usually like to make my response questions “text-to-self” or “text-to-world” because it requires some out-of-the-box thinking. Sometimes we brainstorm together first what a possible response could be, but I usually try to make it as open-ended as possible and not give them ideas. It’s always so cute to see the stories and thoughtful responses that come out during this Center. How are you all going? 🦋 Hanging in there? I just happened to do two things before lockdown started that I’m SOOOO grateful for now, and they are: 1) cut all my hair off, and 2) re-start medication for my mental health. I’ve been lucky enough to access medication three times over the years and in each instance I genuinely believe this intervention saved my life. Somedays it’s enough just to survive, but other days I’m seeing a glimpse of who I used to be again and it’s... nice?? As Kendra has written in one of her daily lockdown reports, “I am feeling annoyed at some parts but at others I am feeling good.” We’ve been playing dress ups, walking everyday and baking (pictured is the successful experimental upside down caramelised fig and apple cake!). I deep cleaned my oven. It took 3 days and I had to vacuum it first 😳 my days and nights are filled to the brim with the work of homeschooling Kendra, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and caring for our baby. Last night I picked up my guitar for the first time since March and recorded a cover song dedication for a friend, and surprised myself with this “hopeful” feeling, that maybe I can carve out some more time for music in the evenings, even if it means getting 4 hours sleep that night. I try to keep my socials generally upbeat but I wanted to share this for anyone who is on a journey towards mental health (that’s all of us, right?), anyone who is recovering from addiction, anyone who is grieving a loss, any parents who have had to make some painful personal sacrifices to keep their families afloat during this crazy crazy time — to all the mothers doing the unpaid labour to keep things going — I SEE YOU. A few years ago these mountains burned, the following winter a mudslide brought the face of the mountain down upon the community below it. This year we’ve already seen historic fires across California, and fire season has barely begun. If anything is going to change its only gonna come from fierce love & standing arm in arm to protect the places, people, and beings that are already fighting for their lives. The eyes have it 👀 There has been a great deal of pleasure in the serendipity of putting Clay™️ together, one of my favourites is the dazzling pile of brightly coloured fish (with one floating little fly) by the amazingly talented @katy.stubbs which is watched over from afar by the tiny 7th century AD Tang Dynasty ceramic glazed fish, a votive offering placed in a shrine to the gods. There is a lot of praying I imagine in ceramics but to the kiln gods, as nothing is safe until it’s fired, things can explode and colours go awry. They must have been listening for Katy as her pile of fish is mind-blowingly stunning, and still warm fresh out of the kiln when she delivered it to the gallery last week 🐟🐟🐟🐟 Come see! Quest’estate è stata un po’ diversa . Penso lo sia stata un po’ per tutti. Sono riuscita a staccare un po’ dai social, dal telefono... preferendo così la splendida filosofia del vivere pienamente l’attimo, godersi la realtà e ancor meglio il “qui ed ora” , senza il pensiero di doverlo riprendere nel modo più corretto, più furbo, più giusto per condividerlo online . Ho scattato foto - quelle sì - ma ho anche riso tanto , mangiato (tanto) , cantato , danzato e mi sono goduta i viaggi più di quanto vi sia riuscita a mostrare . Sono anche finita in uno splendido centro spirituale per dedicarmi qualche giorno di Detox , meditazione e mare. Lontana da tutto e da tutti. (Un’esperienza che vorrei ripetere e che vi consiglio.) Ecco Settembre , e come ogni anno, lo vivo come se fosse un nuovo inizio, una nuova opportunità di crescita personale . got this cute new sticker I gotta wear for a lil while 💁🏻♀️ • It’s kind of funny- how nothing really changed but because I have this visible thing, it seems like something is wrong. So maybe something is always wrong? 😅 I was diagnosed with atrial flutter years ago and had a pretty baddass ablation procedure that fixed it. (a little context- my atrial flutter is what caused my stroke) I’ve had chest discomfort for as long as I can remember. Sometimes pain but mainly discomfort. Recently it’s been more frequent soo I hit up my cardiologist and he sent me this heart monitor 💌. This may be just a symptom of my ulcerative colitis because because of my super cute health history, we need to be safe. Heart monitors and I go way back... I wore a halter monitor for a month which was the worssst because I got terrible blisters. And after my ablation procedure, I had a heart monitor/chip (loop recorder) inserted in me for three years. So now we here! 🙆🏻♀️ • So yes I’m wearing this monitor, but it’s nothing new. Just visible. 🙂 - @allyberlin_ on Instagram

Even though it wasn’t the focus in my day job, those themes were always in the back of my head, bringing me a lot of negative feelings like guilt and shame because I was just cruising. So glad this nightmare is over. I know I’ve been a bit MIA on here, but we’ve got a lot of work going on at @rynoranch. I need to give a huge shoutout to everyone that jumped in to help the day of the fire and the following days. It truly means the world to me and helped me push through. . To all of you who have messaged, emailed, called, texted... it’s very overwhelming to know I have so much support out there. I’ll never be able to respond to all of you but just know I saw all of your messages and really do appreciate you all. . We were very fortunate to come out of this insane fire with our animals and house. We have about 1700’ of fence we’re in the process of rebuilding and a pump house/well equipment that needs to be installed. . This was definitely trial by fire, getting thrown into a wildfire 3 weeks after moving in, but I definitely learned exactly what I need to be prepared in the future. . My healthy weekend in Cabo 🌵☀️💕 Happy Monday, bby!!!! I hope you’re ready to have an amazing week!!! Here’s a little weekend recap 🥰 Friday: I tried to catch up on as much schoolwork as possible to leave my weekend free!!! Then I worked on continuing to film my very first what I eat in a week video for YouTube... where I tracked ALL my calories as an experiment (but don’t worry lol — I am still ALL for intuitive eating 🥰) plus a SUPER fun evening mountain bike ride! My legs were SO sore by the end of it! Saturday: I went on a surfing road trip with my dad! We drove to Todos Santos (a little beach town near Cabo) and spent the day surfing and getting the most AMAZING sushi we’d ever had at this local restaurant ✨chef’s kiss✨ plus doing a lil bike ride and then I spent the ENTIRE night editing my YouTube video for Sunday. Sunday: woke up at 6:30am to finish editing my YouTube vid... and ran into technical difficulties so it wasn’t up until 2:30pm BAHAHA!! Then we drove to the beach in the afternoon and spent the day surfing (where I took this picture) and it was PARADISE!! Small but fun waves 💕 Love youuuu!! yesterday was one for the books... i went spear fishing with some buddies about 20 miles off the coast of Oceanside. i’ve been in the ocean my whole life from surfing, to lobstering, fishing, diving, etc.. been in a lot of sketchy situations, been stung by stingrays, sunk a boat in a storm, flipped a four wheeler breaking both legs, a bad car accident, the list goes on.. never in my life have i felt fear like i did yesterday when i stuck my head back under water and turned around to see (no embellishment) a 15ft, 2000lb great white shark ten feet away from my face. while the boat was 60-75ft away from me, my heart felt like it stopped, i felt all the blood rush away from my body, i somehow kept my cool and stayed as calm as i could so that i didn’t make a big splash or scene causing it to think i was dinner, and i knew in the moment that the spear gun in my hand would have merely been a toothpick to a shark of this size... i just knew there was no fighting or punching this one. with every fiber in me trying not to panic, i said “shark... shark... guys seriously, BIG shark!” three times having greater and greater urgency & sternness in my voice with each echo, until finally the friend maybe 10-15ft in front of me stuck his head back under water- “oh fu*k! she’s not kidding, HUGE SHARK!!” ...very seriously thought i was going to die. needless to say, i obviously made it back to the boat safely, i didn’t spear the fish i was SO determined to spear while i was still back at the kelp hunting for it, which its probably a good thing i didn’t have a bloody fish on my spear in that moment. obviously the shark didn’t attack me and i didn’t make national news headlines last night, thank God 😂 i will forever have the image of this small bus sized shark right next to me, seared into my mind. After so many beach clean-ups, I still find striking similarities between the natural and synthetic worlds - while plastic is a necessary material in many ways, it does not belong on the beaches and in the ocean.
