Mas não é o momento de pensarmos nos 80%. É hora de pensarmos nos 20%. Na sua avó que neste momento está com a saúde fragilizada. Na sua amiga que neste momento passa por uma quimioterapia. No seu pai que tem problemas respiratórios. Porque eu te amo, vou cuidar de nós. Se hipoteticamente duas mil pessoas se contaminarem em minha cidade, e dessas duas mil, cem precisarem de atendimento hospitalar ao mesmo tempo, vai faltar leito. Vai atingir pessoas frágeis nas filas de atendimento médico. Vai virar um caos. Pelos outros, eu vou me cuidar. Pelos outros eu vou ficar em casa, isolada se eu for um caso suspeito. Your mental health is never considered when starting a diet. @chr1styharrison calls diet culture “The Life Thief.” A reference that impacts me at my core. Nothing is more true. Diets, restriction and the CULTURE AND COMMUNITY that surround it (even in the sneakiest of places - think gyms, studios, Facebook groups, friends, family gatherings, hair salons…all culprits) all have one thing in common. They take away TIME that you can never get back. Time is a non-renewable resource. In the past this used to really upset me, thinking back to all the time I wasted thanks to diet culture - but I have reframed it as experience and the lessons it taught me are invaluable. Which is why I am 🗣 them to you on all platforms now. Diet culture does not prioritize your mental health. Why does that matter? You may ask? Because when the diet ends, and you “successfully” suffered through the restrictive phase, without having received any education as to why you followed it, when you attempt to resume normalcy and simply don’t feel good - think, re-feeding syndrome (literally referring your body and shocking your system tossing off your electrolytes and digestive tract), confusion because the rules are gone, guilt, shame, feeling like a failure, confusion…you are left with just one thought, I should just start over and do it again because “it worked when I was on it.” This cycle is really hard to break. The truth is, each of these diets that pulls out carbs or a food group in general pulls away from your brains ability to even THINK clearly. The deep caloric deficits begin to shut down processes in your body that are deemed “unnecessary for survival” over time. Your mental health suffers thanks to isolation, confusion, body discomfort, physical discomfort and a lack of resources to process information. And all of this is thanks to a $72+ billion industry profiting off a belief that weigh loss is all that matters. All this to tell you. I understand + there is a way to break this cycle. Prioritizing your mental health will ALWAYS pay off. A range of symptoms that accompany migraine are reversible. They all relate to the 12 cranial nerves that come in and out of the brainstem. As the brainstem becomes hypersensitive it amplifies the response from these nerves. For example, our senses (smell, sight & hearing) become exaggerated & amplified, to the point where they are uncomfortable. Hence the desire to be in a dark, quiet room. The Vagus nerve, which goes to the heart, lung and stomach, creates issues such as nausea and vomiting, as it stops the stomach from absorbing food and drink as it normally would.
