The first two photos are from a few weeks ago during a weekend escapade up the the mountains to some secret waterfalls, but they represent how Iโm feeling right about now... full, flowey, inspired, expansive, contemplative, grateful. Last week I led 162 people through the September Reset, today I taught a masterclass for 33 people, and there are already 12 people signed up for the intimate and deeply transformational 8-week redefining Sobriety Onljne immersion (which starts next week, link in profile) I feel so honored and privileged to get to meet and support so many amazing people committing to show up for themselves differently, doing the brave and sometimes hard work of healing, leaning in to even more self-love. The last picture is a snapshot family portrait of right now. Bc the other part of all of powerful work is this little one, and who I get to be for her, and also the fact that we both had funky tummy aches from sharing the same food at a beach restaurant last night, so we were a bit off physically today. And also the fact that as I was trying to get caught up on a bit of work after she was asleep, and I heard yelling and she was having one of those intense eyes wide open nightmares so Iโm back in bed with her holding her back to sleep, and then our medicine cat Emilio Zen came into bed to comfort me too and so here we are. Every now and then you get a special dog. Yes they are all special, but some more so than others. Some you have a deeper connection to. For me this was my first baby Chase. I got Chase when I was at uni. Chase and I were instantly connected. We had been through so much together, he was my best friend, rock and world. He completed me. He passed suddenly 6 years ago today at the very young age of 3 and it destroyed me. I gave up Teaching and knew where I wanted to be... dogs are much better than kids. This one goes out to all the mamas who work outside of the home. ALL mamas work SO HARD- I know this fully FULLLLLY! This morning was a shit show. Della was screaming and clinging to me to not leave. She has a little cold with the weather changing and I literally said under my breath โa better mother would just stay homeโ. Waylon didnโt want to get up. Nothing new there. Was miserable and slower then frozen molasses. I snapped. GET UPPPPPPP! Van talking a full stream of consciousness non stop. No breaths. Kid needs no sleep. No breath. Just words on words. Theyโre all crying and mad and wild haired and dirty teethed and clinging to me for dear life as If I know wtf to do and I have 3 back to backs and zero sleep because said children were up for various reasons all night and Iโve got loads of work stuff going on and my brain is one loooooonnng run on sentence. And we have no food according to them and and and... The guilt is just insane some days. Should I just stay home and be their bitch like they want ๐ฃ. Itโs like running a business and managing lots of clients and employees happiness and feelings is one thing. That. That I can do most days. In the past 2 1/2 years Iโve negotiated 4 leases for pop ups and studios. Iโve gone from drive ways to full rooms to a pandemic shut down. Iโve kept my people a float best I can. But when it comes to my other job. Mother Dear. I always feel like Iโm flailing. Is this just a mom thing? Or is it a working out of the house mom thing? Does it get easier or harder first? She had him put in jail once for it, but she took me with her on the day of his release to pick him up and bring him back. Shortly thereafter, he began abusing me again. When I was finally old enough to confront her about it, I told her how deeply it wounded me to know she chose him over me, and do you know what she said? โIf you would have just kept your legs closed, that would have never happened.โ If I... at five years old... would have just... not allowed myself to be a victim. Sedona, Arizona ๐One of the best places to go out and get moving, and it couldnโt be any more gorgeous. This was my last day hiking #bellrockvortex. I was feeling stuck, anxious, and overwhelmed in LA so I decided to grab a cheap Airbnb and head out on a road trip. A lot of the nature trails here in AZ were open at the time. I was grateful to find aย ย great place to sneak away and use some much needed movement to change my vibration. โข Whatโs your relationship like with movement and exercise? Do you only exercise occasionally or when itโs convenient? I was like that and boy have I changed.ย ย ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ โข For years I struggled with anxiety, depression, and self-worth issues and was on every medication known to man. โ๏ธ โข Now 5 years later, with tools such as exercise, breathing, supplements, and a great #GutHealth regimen Iโm a new me! โข Anytime Iโm feeling anxious I move my body. Anytime Iโm overthinking I move my body. Anytime Iโm sad, unsure, or angry I move my body. Itโs helped me and it can help you too! โข When people exercise, they talk about a #RunnersHigh, the feeling they get as #endorphins rush through their body after a good workout. But moving your body releases more than endorphins, it releases #dopamine and #serotonin too! Regular exercise can even boost the serotonin levels in the brain, great for things that something like #depression would normally disrupt like your mood, appetite, and sleep schedule. โข My #1 piece of advice for clients dealing with anxiety attacks is to engage their body. My boy Jack has cancer. Heโs 10 1/2 and I snuck him into the house at 8 weeks during one of Markโs out of town trials. Jack reached out to me through his cage at the shelter and that was it. Jack has never had any regard for your personal space. He likes his humans better than his other felines. He likes to groom us and lick our mouths. Heโs a great kisser. And a great listener. There is nothing like the companionship of a dog. . Melody woke up a little lame on Wednesday and when we took her to the vet yesterday they told us they believe itโs arthritis. . We knew Melody wouldnโt stay young forever. But secretly I hoped she would. . Sadly itโs probably time to hang up the running leash for Melody. . That is an incredibly hard pill to swallow. . This dog and I have one special bond. In the last 2 years alone she has logged over 4000km with me and completed #75hard twice. . Daily shine :-: shhhhhh when I boil it down there are 2 things that always support me, and while they are connected they are also different. Getting my heartrate up and sweating, feeling my muscles burn really reminds me that I can do hard things, and I feel so strong and proud that I am able to do hard things (it ripples out into those moments in parenting or cooking that I feel LOST)It forces my mind to focus on what I am doing right now, and I feel my heart beating so loudly and clearly. It is special. I find I am able to let the emotion or the downward spiral thoughts/feelings move and be processed through me. And also being S L O W and rolling on balls or painting really, really reminds me that REST is more than ok, it is essential. Getting down onto the floor, even that alone sometimes is the place I remember....it is ok. There is a conversation available that I would have distracted myself away from, and the words just tumble out, the guidance or the path in front of me seems easier to navigate. As I stand up, (or finish the painting) I feel a new me walk away, leaving the rubble of self doubt and fear in a compost pile. Its almost time for the goats to say goodbye to Van Cortlandt Park and head back to @green_goats_rhinebeck for the colder months. All of us at VCPA are going to be sad to see them go but Christina, co-lead goat caregiver with @vchmnyc Director Laura, will miss them the most. Christina and Laura both literally put in blood, sweat, tears and poison ivy rashes into caring for the goats this summer. Its been a lot of work with lots of rewards. All of us at the Highlander Research and Education Center cry out with immense shock and sorrow at the death of E (Elandria) Williams, a cherished member of the Highlander family who served on Highlanderโs Education Team from 2007-2018. E transitioned unexpectedly yesterday, September 23, 2020. Highlanderโs team joins the thousands of people from across the region and world who mourn the loss of the visionary thinker, educator, organizer, co-conspirator in work and in faith, mentor, chaplain, chosen sibling, and friend that E was to all of us. We send love and solidarity to the Peopleโs Hub, Beautiful Solutions, the Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism and the wider Unitarian Universalist Association fam. Most especially, we send our condolences to Eโs parents, Elnora and Erven Williams, Eโs twin brother, Frederick, the nieces and nephews who E cared for and loved so much, and all of Eโs family. Es relationship with Highlander was lifelong and created incalculable relationships and impacts. As a child of parents who were themselves leaders for racial justice and economic democracy at a young age, E came to Highlander first as a Childrenโs Justice Camp participant and joined Highlanderโs Education Team in 2007 during Highlanderโs 75th year. Fresh Grizzly tracks! . i am exceedingly happy when grizzlies are around. The bear that left the tracks in pics 1 & 2 was biG-probably standing around 8ft tall. . He made his way toward @stephkellettart and i from the far end of the beach, slowly sniffing and shambling as he approached to within 30ft of us before veering off. . At no time did he act threatening or aggressive which, in my 26 years of experience with them, is typical. A true exemplar of restrained power and wisdom. .
