Le due parole vengono Tradotte approssimativamente come il lato in ombra della collina (yin) e il lato soleggiato della collina (yang). Un Concetto che, a mio avviso, in fotografia non bisogna mai dimenticare. La foto è fatta di luce, è fatta di ombre. Tutte e due le luminosità concorrono alla formazione di unimmagine che ci restituisce in apparenza una forma tridimensionale su un supporto bidimensionale. É per questo che quando fotografo esamino sempre la luce, così come le ombre. Non cè luna senza lapporto allaltra, così come accade nella vita reale nelle polarità energetiche che si contrappongono. The concept of yin and yang, originally from China, is inspired by the night-day duality. Legacy of Taoist philosophy, it suggests that everything has its opposite, not absolute, but in comparative terms. The two words are roughly translated as the shady side of the hill (yin) and the sunny side of the hill (yang). A concept that, in my opinion, in photography we must never forget. The photo is made of light, it is made of shadows. Both luminosities contribute to the formation of an image that apparently gives us a three-dimensional shape on a two-dimensional support. This is why when I photograph I always examine the light, as well as the shadows. Iso Insta essay alert! It seems to me that now, more than ever, many of us need to heed the advice of Carl Jung and embrace our shadow side. Nobody is perfect. Straight up. We all have an element of irreducible rascality as Alan Watts would say. We all have flaws in our character that our persona tries to supress. @jordan.b.peterson noted in one of his recent lectures that by denying the worst in ourselves, we preclude the possibility of the best. In other words, you cannot fully know good, unless youre aware of evil. A genuinely moral person is dangerous. They are capable of inflicting pain and suffering in the world—but choose not to. When one becomes aware that evil is as much in oneself as it is in the other, they are less likely to project it onto some scapegoat. All of this us vs. them mentality, further fuelled by social media, is tearing apart the fabric of society. Luckily, though, were more similar than we are different. Both biologically and morally speaking. Similarities aside, nature thrives diversity. Differing values, beliefs and ways of thinking are a integral to innovative thinking. Life did not get to where it is now via competition, we got here via cooperation. We can become a life-affirming force on planet Earth. Together we can weave a new narrative of interbeing, design regenerative cultures, and co-create a future worth living in... 💫 Side note: Is anyone keen for some Calendula?
