I met the Vegepod team in USA but now I’m back in Ireland so I got my sister emma a medium Vegepod for her wee family. As i sit here packing my room up, preparing to go to college, i cant help but reflect on what brought me to this point. I remember the first day of my 4th year we were going around the classroom and my teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up. He got to me and i said “an actor on broadway” and before i could even finish my sentence he said “you know how many actors (in air quotes) are working at Target in LA becuase they’re not talented enough to make it big? You need to find a new career path because that’s completely unrealistic” I’m so thankful for that teacher because he lit a flame inside me. His cruel words helped push me when i started loosing momentum. I knew i had to prove him wrong. While I’m not all the way there yet, i think I’ve done a pretty good job so far. Ich bin sehr neugierig auf den #Tod, aber ich fürchte mich vor dem #Sterben, vor #Krankheiten und #Schmerzen. Todesangst hatte ich schon öfter. Als Kind hatte ich eine Hirnhautentzündung, es schien, ich könnte jeden Moment sterben. Irgendwann habe ich mir gesagt: Klar stirbst du, aber noch nicht gleich. Dieses Wissen um die Vergänglichkeit ist für mich ein starker Antrieb. Und dann habe ich ja dieses sehr große körperliche Zutrauen, manchmal verschätze ich mich. Am Gardasee bin ich mal zu weit rausgeschwommen, es wurde windig, eine Strömung zog mich raus. Da kommt der Wille zum #Leben! Es ist gerade noch mal gutgegangen. I meet nurses EVERY DAY that tell me the aspire to work in intense critical care settings, but often when I dive deeper with them and ask “why?” they become stumped. After thinking it through for a few minutes they will say, “well I think that is the most respected specialty” or “The smartest nurses work in XYZ setting.” or “The thrill excites me.” or “I want to be seen as the smartest.” They have made up that their significance as a nurse depends on the specialty or degree they have and how advanced they are in their career. IT IS NOT ABOUT WORKING IN (what you think is) THE HARDEST AREA OF NURSING TO PROVE SOMETHING TO SOMEONE. It’s about working in an area where you serve best. Where you serve YOURSELF and those around you with the highest quality care YOU can give. … I would make a TERRIBLE ICU nurse. Not because I can’t do the job well, but because I would HATE it. I am not passionate about it in the same way I am other things within the profession. I am PASSIONATE about educating, coaching and motivating new nurses. An ICU nurse can do what I do, but they may be TERRIBLE at it if they are not passionate about it. My point here, question your decisions. WHY are you deciding to focus your energy on that specialty? Be weary of when you are chasing the shiny idea of something versus what truly lights YOU up. Here are some things to think about… What do you enjoy doing MOST as a nurse? What comes easy to you that makes you feel good when you do it? How do you want to feel when you leave work? Will the job you think you want leaving you feeling that way? And talk it out with someone you trust! CW: suicide⠀ ⠀ A few weeks ago I came across the letter I wrote and left on my bedside table seven years ago, the first time I attempted suicide. I decided to read it and was immediately transported back to the pain and despair I was feeling at the time.⠀ ⠀ I think a part of me felt that if I got rid of it, I was abandoning the girl who had needed help so badly seven years ago. With some encouragement from Rob though, I finally decided to put this letter through the shredder. It was really hard and I cried several times throughout the day.⠀ ⠀ It was important for me to understand that by saying goodbye to this memento from a painful part of my life, I was not turning my back on the girl who wrote it, but rather acknowledging the hard work and growth it’s taken to get to where I am today with my mental health.⠀ ⠀ This by no means means that my mental health is in a perfect state now. But through a lot of work on my own, and with the help of medical professionals, therapists, supportive friends and family, and medication, I have gotten to a place where I feel better equipped to handle and manage my illness.⠀ ⠀ It’s suicide prevention month, and I don’t want to give a rose-coloured blanket statement that “it gets better”. But I do want to say that based on my own experience, it has gotten much better. If you are struggling, I want you to give future you the chance to know how much better it can get for you too. It’s not going to be easy, but I’m fairly confident in saying it will be worth it.⠀ ⠀ I think suicide prevention goes so so so much farther beyond checking in on each other (though that’s very important too). It needs to include prioritizing mental health as much as we prioritize physical health care. It needs to include making things like therapy, and psychiatry appointments, and medications accessible to anyone who needs them. It needs to include a focus on the various social determinants of mental health such as housing, social supports, education, income, among others.⠀ ⠀ These components of mental health care have been so important in my recovery journey and everyone deserves to have these needs met. Hi Everyone! As you may know, 2 weeks ago I tested positive for COVID-19. I have since tested negative twice and have been able to leave the hospital! I feel completely fine and I want to assure everyone that I am ok. It was obviously a really difficult time for myself and my family. My biggest fear was for my wife and son and thankfully they are fine after being quarantined for 14 days. I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all the doctors, nurses and front line staff who cared for me - they are the true heroes in the world. It’s not enough for me to simply say thank-you here, but it’s a start. I also want to thank my club, sport director @omori_1976, President, my interpreter Go and his family and Miho for making sure Ri and Santi had everything they needed and were supported at all times. Finally to everyone who reached out to me with messages over the past weeks and wrote to me or checked in daily I really appreciate it. 5.17.20 the day that my life was flipped upside down. honestly I never thought something like this would happen. I could never fathom laying in a hospital bed begging God to please let me legs work. I never thought I’d have to learn to walk again. I’m not going to lie, IT SUCKS, ITS HARD. ITS HEARTBREAKING but its God’s way and I need to try so hard to find comfort in that. — Good news is I can still feel my legs and am getting some movement back. I have the amazing opportunity to go to the Craig hospital in Denver, Colorado for rehabilitation (I will leave billings clinic wednesday) — I can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers and positive vibes. I am so so so blessed it’s impossible to not be positive in such an unfortunate situation. Raw post ✔️ I’ve been seeing a psychologist for the past 7 weeks and it’s something I am actually really proud of. A year ago I would have been pretty embarrassed to talk about this because it would have felt like I was too weak or unintelligent to figure things out in my own. What I’ve realised now is that finally taking the step to seek professional help is one of the bravest things I’ve ever done. After I filled in a test, she informed me that my results showed extreme levels of anxiety and depression, which felt very weird to hear but also made a lot of sense. I’ve needed this type of help for as long as I can remember and have always carried a lot of sadness but my ego held me back and as a result I let my values down in different ways. I don’t want to live like that anymore, I want to be a man in this world who is very happy, very purposeful and very real 🔥 I’ve already learned so much about mastering my self awareness and even though it’s early days, I’m noticing these massive changes in how I deal with people and situations. Every day I practice observing my feelings and thoughts without judgment and it’s really helping me to tackle things more effectively and also be more understanding of other people’s emotions/reactions. I’ll share more about this as I go because I’m honestly loving everything I’m learning and life is too short to hold back from growing, sharing and communicating on deep incredible levels 🙏🏼 - @portagram on Instagram
As 2019 slowly comes to an end with only 3 months left to go — I’m reflecting on this past year. 2019 was probably the hardest year to date, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s helped shape me into a stronger, more disciplined version of myself that I wouldn’t be if life didn’t put me to the test. With that said — we do still have 3 months left! It’s time to buckle down on the goals you set back on New Year’s Day of this year that are collecting dust because you set them at a time you felt super motivated. What happens when the motivation fades, and everyone stops cheering and clapping for you in the background? People tend to be consistent for the first week, and then what happens is the motivation subsides and the process doesn’t seem as fun as when you first wrote down those goals. For the next 3 months I CHALLENGE you to write down 3 goals, set your intentions, and execute by taking daily action towards those goals. Taking actions looks like reading that book for an hour that you keep putting off, or putting down the tv remote to go work on your blog, or setting that alarm 30 minutes earlier so you can prepare a healthier meal. Whatever your goals look like, start TODAY. Its been awhile since I introduced myself..so Here is the minor deets.. I started my photography business 5 years now after I had taken a Photography workshop, shot a whole lotta pics of everything from my garden to rodeo events to friends families. Taught myself photoshop.. And i realized there was little I got this excited about... I love the art of it, the emotions that I draw out of people and manage to turn them into lifetime memories. I am married to a super handsome fella that I love spending uber amounts of time with. Hes my dude (person) and had always encouraged me throughout putting my art out there. Love ya Honey! I have 4 Amazing kiddos, they are my reasons... I have always loved photographing them, and they were my motivation to keep my camera out in the open so I could really capture some beautiful memories. Shoutout to my oldest Macie Rae who is my backup photographer and shoots the best Branding Pics for me! Fun facts... I love to hunt, and have recently gotten to hunt Bears in Idaho.. My bear was the prettiest in camp ( no joke;) I owned a coffee shop for a few years and still love a well made latte. My current drink of choice is Almond Milk Latte, with a little honey..mmm We have Horses, 2 cows named Brennan & Dale ( Stepbrothers) lol, some Bird Dogs and Chickens.. which can get complicated while free roaming 😬 I grew up in Wyoming... I miss the Mountains so near by. I LOVE North Dakota, and have been here about 10 years which seems like a really long time, but it feels like home. I’ve taken a lot of online classes from photographers I most admire and really developed a style I feel is most reflective of my personal liking. This year I plan to offer some different sessions than I have in years past, so stay tuned in the coming month! 250.000 Follower Mein Ziel. Damals als ich 10.000 follower auf Instagram geknackt hatte, war es immer 250.000 follower zu bekommen. Der ein oder andere weiß es noch, wie akribisch ich darauf Tag für Tag - hunderte Kommentare und tausende likes verteilt habe. Irgendwann ließ dieser Wunsch nach, jeden Tag 8 Stunden auf dieser App zu verbringen, nur damit ich mehr follower bekomme, war mir zu blöd. Es musste doch auch durch Content funktionieren? 😂 ja genau 😂. Instagram funktioniert so nicht. Viele von Euch wissen das, ihr könnt noch so viel hochladen, es hilft nichts. Es bringt euch fast keine follower. Was ihr braucht, erkläre ich in hunderten Videos auf YouTube, darum gehts hier auch nicht. Was ich sagen möchte ist folgendes: wenn ihr euch nur auf euch konzentriert, im social Media und glaubt, irgendjemand interessiert sich schon dafür, dann streicht das Ziel, damit mal Geld zu verdienen. Das schaffen nur sehr sehr wenige, meistens sehr außergewöhnliche Menschen. Dann blog einfach aus Leidenschaft und cool :) Wenn du damit allerdings Geld verdienen möchtest, dann streng dich an, gib alles und noch ein bisschen mehr als deine Konkurrenz. I am not a traditional talk therapist. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, specializing in working with anxiety, P.T.S.D., developmental trauma, shock trauma and shame. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I used to suffer from developmental trauma, social anxiety, self-sabotage, self-loathing, shame, low self-esteem, depression, habitual re-enactments, and then came the 7-10 full-blown panic attacks every day, following a catastrophic car wreck. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After three sessions with a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, my panic attacks stopped and I entered the three year training program to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner two weeks later. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since 2004, thirteen of my clients have become practitioners, as well. Happy Friday Folks! Cutting my hair off has lightened me up a little, made me feel stronger, more like myself. Being here at @smugorange and @bubblebini ‘s spot in the middle of the trees these last few days since shooting, working on a script, has warmed me up and cheered me and helped me get focused on writing, working out again, laughing in good company. Things Ive learned during the first year as an entrepreneur. 👊 Last year around this time I decided that its time to stop dreaming and start my business. The first months were just building the foundations behind the scenes around my old 9-5 job and then in February in this year, I went all in. And what have I learnt during the first year? 1. Dont discourage yourself by thinking how much work you need to do in order to get from point A to point B. It will take time. It will (most likely) take failed attempts. But all you can do is start with one thing. And go from there. 2. Trust your zone of genius. There will always be people who are ahead of you or who look like they have what you want or seem better than you. But all you can do is focus on your own journey, learn from others and trust yourself. 3. Ask for help. This is the most difficult one for me, not going to analyse why. But every time someone has helped me with something in my business, it has helped me to move the needle tremendously. 4. Rest. I know you want to get everything done ASAP and its exciting to work on something you truly believe in. But you need to learn to take time to rest now (note to self) so that you still have that energy and excitement in you in a month, a year or 10 years. 5. Dont try to be everything for everyone. You just cant. 6. When it feels difficult, its not because youre failing, its most likely because you want it so bad and youre so afraid of failing. I absolutely hate it how there are so many business coaches who make it look like entrepreneurship is so freaking easy and things will come to you when you just create a vision board, clean your crystals and sniff some oils. Sorry to break it to you but its f-ing hard but then again so completely worth it. 7. 💋Jetzt hab ich euch das ganze Wochenende mit meinem neuen Lippenstift genervt, das ihr mir so viele liebe Nachrichten geschrieben habt und natürlich auch wissen wolltet welche Nummer,die versteckt sich im letzten Bild. Normal trage ich nie Lippenstift und ihr kennt euch sicher noch besser aus als ich aber meine Braut am Wochenende hat mich inspiriert und ich dachte „Ausprobieren“.
