When we started March&MillCo one of our goals was to get involved in giving back to the military community. With the help from so many, we were able to start the inaugural March&MillCo/ @sonsoffall Veteran Hunt where we take a veteran or active duty service member on a hunt or outdoor experience. This year has been a challenge but with some perseverance from our partners and friends we pushed through and had an experience of a lifetime. Our active duty service member who joined us in the Colorado mountains for a 2020 archery elk hunt was Staff Sergeant @_anthonyorsini . He’s an avid outdoorsman, a Connecticut native, and serves in the Airforce. We are thankful for your service brother and had a blast on the mountain with you. All of this would not have been possible without the help from some key partners. Thank you @kryptek for gearing up the guys we certainly needed it in this early September snow! We would have packed up and tucked tail in the first few days if it wasn’t for the generous donation from @kitlender . @red_wild_true (Rudy) and @tactacam you guys went above and beyond and we are truly grateful for all of the help. January 24, 2020-September 9, 2020. There is less than 1 lb weight difference in these pictures. I am heavier in my current (right side) physique. We attempted a prep for a May show. That ended up being cancelled. I quit a job of 5.5 years, packed my bags and moved south. Started a completely new job in a different area of my field and we got right back to work. The one constant was always my training, when everything else was falling apart, unstable, new and intimidating. The gym is my safe space. My stability. I think it’s safe to say that my “bulk” has been pretty steady. I don’t like calling it a bulk cause it sounds to aggressive. Here’s about a 3 months transformation. I decided in October that I wanted to put on some weight. Honestly, I wasn’t crazy in trying to gain weight but I TRIED. This is the first time I’ve actually had a set goal to achieve. I’m lifting heavier and eating more than I would. It’s been great and I enjoy having control of my body. I can seriously say that I’ve learned this on my own. No fitness plans, no strict diet to follow, really just consistency. I just like the feeling of being powerful. Gaining a bit of weight was for sure a change but I’ve gotten used to it ... let’s just say I’m not in a hurry to cut. What I learned during my deload week:⁣ 1. Taking time off from the gym will not erase months/ years of hard work ⁣ 2. Resting and sleeping enough are so so important. You are not doing yourself and your body any help by continuing to push when you need to rest.⁣ 3. Planning and prepping meals is ESSENTIAL when you have a busy schedule and has helped me stay on track even though I wasn’t working out ⁣ 4. I appreciate the gym and my workouts even more after taking some time off ⁣ 5. TRUST the process and the way programs are meant to be followed. After my cut, it was necessary to deload before starting my bulk and it gave me the time to adjust my body to the increase in calories.⁣ (I’m DIGGIN THE EXTRA FOOD🤩😍) •⁣ •⁣ This week off helped me reflect on so much and how far I’ve come. I had never experienced a deload week prior and was always hesitant of taking off multiple rest days. Being able to just let go of that notion is huge for me and the amount of mental growth I’ve obtained in the last few months have been vital to my overall well being. ⁣ •⁣ •⁣ I’m so excited to start my new programming and to see what I can accomplish! It took me 7 months to lose 5 pounds. In that time I also couldn’t figure out another way to pose in the mirror 😂 On a more serious note - it’s is completely inaccurate and ignorant to judge what has changed this year with the scale. My gut needed a complete overhaul. My hormones were - what hormones? I’ve been though more phases of inflammation and detox than I can count. My skin has been on a roller coaster ride through all this. But the biggest change is in actually FEELING GOOD and being able to THINK again. You don’t realize how much of your life you refuse to participate in when you feel like shit. How many opportunities you pass on because you literally just cannot. It’s incredibly hard for me to not judge what I see in the mirror and take that as everything. This process has brought some humility and perspective. Still working. So yesterday I did something crazy and ran a half marathon. This is the girl who used to cry and beg her mom to write her a note so I didn’t have to run a mile in p.e. It was just a coincidence that it was supposed to be #brooklynhalf yesterday. I did not train and the most I had run nonstop before was 7 miles. 2021 Vision 💭💪 - The past seven months have all been about growing and improving 😌 The photos on the left were taken in early March when I was 57.6kg, right before all Season A shows were cancelled. The photos on the right were taken this morning at the end of September at 68.1kg, the first day of my prep for 2021! 10.5kg difference! 😱 - Looking back I’m honestly so happy with the improvements I’ve made during this relatively short period of time and I know in my heart that I gave this phase absolutely everything I had! These past seven months have by far been the most enjoyable and productive my training has ever been - I’ve achieved life-time strength PBS across every lift, and I was able to get my metabolic rate in a good spot for starting prep, eating 3,000 calories per day and 425g carbs 🍌💪 - Given the uncertainty of when Season A 2021 shows will be I’m yet to have set dates, however based off previous years I’m predicting that I’m ~22 weeks out from @ifbbproleagueoz QLD and ~28 weeks out from @icnqld , where I’ll be competing in bikini and fitness/sports model respectively ☺️👙👟 - STATS: Weight: 68.1kg Height: 176.4cm Macros: 5 x days at 300g carb, 150g protein and 40g fat, 2 x days at 375g carb, 150g protein and 40g fat Training: 5 x full body per week Steps: ~15,000/day (normal) - I’m fired up and so thrilled to be back in prep again and competing in a sport that I absolutely LOVE! The belief that weight loss = happiness needs to be addressed. If you search for happiness anywhere outside of choosing it yourself, you’ll never find it. This is my experience… The girl on the left was hungry for validation. She saw every flaw. She wasn’t in tune with anything. She suppressed her emotions and pain, and lived in a state of distraction. She was never lean enough, never muscular enough, never strong enough- never enough. The body on the left was just a shell to a lost heart. The girl on the right (probably a solid 50lbs heavier) finds peace and validation in herself. She takes ownership of her flaws. She finds rest, allows herself to feel every feeling and express every emotion. She dances in front of the mirror and embraces the deepest belly laughs. She drinks her greens, journals, and sweats daily to honor her body- not to punish it. Let go of the belief that loosing weight will bring you true happiness. That’s YOUR responsibility. Quarantine evolution 😍 (swipe) Over quarantine I put in work to recover from losing 10lbs nearing the end of 2019 (first photo was the start of January). This ISN’T a before and after post. It’s to remind myself of the progress I’ve made mentally, especially with food. It’s also to show how having a healthy mind plays a role in your physical health as well. • • Left Photo: This was taken February 2019, when I had already been into fitness for over a year. Nick and I had just started dating and I was going through a lot of stress at the time. It lead to constant binge eating and over exercising. Sometimes, because I would try and lift 6-7 times a week, the next week I would be so tired and skip a lot of my workouts, plus eat MORE to cope with the stress. It was an unhealthy cycle and I was uncomfortable in my body although, if you scroll down my page, it didn’t seem like I was going through that at the time. We would always go out to eat too, so that contributed to the excess bloating too. I had also just started my first semester at york and was constantly pressuring myself to do well and take school seriously. I didn’t want to make the same mistakes I did back in 2017 and that’s why I stressed myself out so much. • • Right Photo: This was taken yesterday. I currently have such a comforting relationship with food and fitness. I feel so balanced. Working out 3-5 times a week, eating intuitively and just tracking my protein, not binge eating because I don’t let my stress and anxiety control my relationship with food and working out, not eating out constantly (nick and I save a lot of money now and enjoy wholesome home cooked meals) and enjoying my life without letting the fear of “failing” take over my thoughts. I just try my best and that’s all we can really do is stay consistent and try our best. Becoming overly obsessive with being the fittest, smartest, etc... it leads to unhappiness and it ends up controlling your thoughts and it physically shows too. When I learned to just eat when I’m hungry, get enough sleep and find a healthy balance with school and fitness, my life has already become so much happier and healthier. • • This is a reminder that you HAVE to take care of your mental health before you can make any external changes. Many of you may not know the story behind these 2 photos.. I’m going to share this because I feel my story may help others the way i needed the help back then. 2 years between these two pics. Weight Is exactly the same. (Screw the scale, body composition overrules🙌🏼) Left was 8/1/18, my first pic sent to my Coach @caseymfit. I remember reaching out to her for genuine help, not even to compete but more to learn how to eat without fear. I was physically run down. I was severely under eating, working 3 jobs as an undergrad student and running to the gym after with little to no food in me. I was always the hardest worker in the gym but it DOES NOT MATTER if you are not properly fueling your body and I can attest to that. Post show binging was not the issue with me, I needed help getting over my fear of food from being on a severe “bro diet”. I had 0 confidence, little academic motivation (half assed DPT apps) and just struggled to get by every day. Little did I realize how much damage I was putting myself through mentally and physically. Fast forward 2 whole years later, eating triple the amount, lifting heavier than ever before, AND the best part is I am now genuinely the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I am STRONG and I am PROUD of the person I became 🦋 Not only has my physique changed, but my mental state is the best it’s ever been. I’m doing what i love, working hard towards my future career (DPT) and I’m on the road to be an IFBB PRO. 🥇🤞🏼🎓 So long story short, don’t be afraid to reach out for help when you need it. First three photos of the slides taken March 6, 2020 before quarantine .. Last two photos are on stage with horrible posing🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ 4 years ago. I won 🥈 those two times and now I understand. It’s not just taking your physique to the next level that matters but mastering the technique of posing. The back pose for me is the hardest pose and Still a work in progress.. That’s a 4 year difference.. I was about 17 weeks out in the first three photos. Wasn’t even aggressively cutting just yet slowly going on a deficit. Carb cycling with “warrior” Intermittent fasting and was able to break Personal records in the gym with , squats, deadlifts and bench.. It took years to build that strength and to build the little muscle I may have.. Its hard to grasp at times but I learned to accept this current situation is another bump on the road but the goal is to maintain the shape in order to sculpt when it’s my time to shine. I literally had an obstacle each year these past 4 years preventing me to compete but I’m still young and I can only improve. Of course scale weight is going to be UP!🤷🏻‍♀️ ‼️TIPS FOR PMS WEIGHT GAIN‼️ ✔️Track your cycle so you know when to expect PMS weight gain (days 21-28) ✔️Give yourself GRACE if you’re a little extra tired, sore, bloated, or heavier (remind yourself its NOT fat gain) ✔️Emphasize nutritious food sources of calcium, magnesium, omega 3, vitamin D and B6 to help ease PMS. Limit caffeine, sodium and sugar, focus on healthy fats (nuts, seeds). ✔️It’s okay to give into cravings a little... metabolic rate increases 9-10% during the Luteal phase, which is an extra ~200 calories for most women. Dark chocolate is a great source of magnesium!😉 ✔️Incorporate low-impact, moderate-intensity exercise - you may feel a bit achy and less coordinated/energetic, but movement is always good💪 ✔️Fat loss can still happen “behind the scenes” of water retention with the right calorie deficit 🔥 But don’t expect a new low until a couple days after your period! ✔️Don’t worry about the temporary increase in scale weight or try to restrict harder... this will only worsen mood and increase water retention further (stress!) “How long did it take you to look like that?” is a tricky question for me. . . I grew up in sports and was “fit” from early on. I didn’t touch a weight until college, for cheerleading. I put on a good 15 lbs of muscle my freshman year of college, and kept it. Stayed very active through college. Fell off after that, got married and fell off a little more. By 25 I was skinny fat for sure. Not working out, no visible muscle. THEN pregnancy and post-partum struggles really packed on the pounds. Overweight. Completely out of shape. About 3 years ago I decided to dedicate myself TO myself and completely transformed my life and my body and never looked back. . . Everyone’s story is different. Everyone’s body is different. Happy hump day!! My coaches and I have been working on softening up my physique, while bringing out my hammies and that tear drop glute, building up my upper body ohh and doing this while staying lean😂 Yes even though I’m eating like I’m in my off season ... I’m still in prep , and I’m not mad about it! Although it’s such a taboo prep for me such as eat all the food, really no cardio other than my everyday movement/steps and one HIIT session a week, soften up and 2 rest days a week.... it’s working! Even though this prep is weird and the wellness division is interesting( in a good way i fricken love it) I haven’t for one second doubted my coaches bc they have kept me INFORMED and educated throughout my entire prep. There is no “ I wonder why we are doing this” it’s “ THIS IS WHY WE ARE DOING THIS” They don’t tell me to trust the process They don’t tell me to just follow the plan They don’t tell me this is just how it’s done. PHYSIQUE UPDATE!!! ⁣ ⁣ This is my Quarantine 4! I am up 4lbs since the beginning of March (left pic). The last month or so I’ve really slowed down on my workouts. Who else is OVER home workouts?! 🙋🏻‍♀️ In fact, I’ve only workout twice in the last two weeks! 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve also eaten a LOT of cake 🤣 ⁣ ⁣ SO, what’s my plan?! Currently, I’m planning on just doing what feels good! I know I need to reign it in on the sugar and up my water game again. I’m going to aim to get 3-4 workouts in a week and check out some gyms that are open! (Mine is still closed and may not reopen 😩) I am taking a few @dop_santamonica classes which I love! They are primarily a full body workout that are only 50 mins! Day 1️⃣ ⏭⏭⏭ Day 5️⃣ . . I absolutely LOVE the #tiu5daydetox ! For me, it’s hitting the reset button. The big move put on a lot of stress mentally and physically. I was eating anything just to get by and I also explored the incredible local restaurants near by (so. many. choices). But I paid a price for it and while I’m not beating myself up for over indulging, I became too tired to work out or too lazy to cook nutritious meals that benefit me in the long haul . . So here is my #tiutransformation ! Down 2.5 lbs 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Not that numbers dictate my feelings in anyway, when I saw the scale number this morning, I squealed as I had not seen that number in quite sometime. Also, the bloat (swipe R) has gone down A LOT. I feel much better and more energetic. . . My meals were 💯 on point and did not steer into temptation. I know I don’t want to just jump in and eat whatever again, but I can’t wait to experiment and journal (I’ve loved my daily recaps for myself so will start to do a food journal!) and see how I feel everyday. What meals work and what doesn’t. Treating myself to that ice cream (non dairy of course) once a week rather than 3x, and the bread and cheese once a week as well! . . Motivation takes action. One doesn’t work without the other. I didn’t get here by sitting around waiting for things to happen. I chose to take daily actions to get me to my goal. I’ve worked hard since I had my baby boy. There were (and still are) days when I didn’t feel motivated. I’m human. Did I have setbacks? Yes. Did I let those keep me down? No. Taking action is a major factor in the prevention of falling into old habits and maintaining motivation and discipline long term. Many people mistakenly think that motivation must come before action and sit around waiting until they feel motivated to do something, when in fact, taking action actually leads to motivation. Discipline helps us create behavior patterns that keep us on the path toward our goals, while motivation provides reason behind the decisions we make. Because motivation is an emotion, it can be fleeting. When motivation wanes, we easily fall back into old patterns, routines, and habits. If you establish daily actions that work for you and help get you to your goal, the motivation will continue. Those actions will eventually become habits and things you don’t even think about anymore; you just do. One thing I see people struggle with most is the motivation to eat well. Establish a daily action that will guide you towards eating well. Even if it’s as simple as adding 1 healthy item to one meal for a couple of weeks, then add another, and you’ll eventually be feeling better and motivated to do more! 7.5 WEEK CUT Left (25th July) - Right (15th September) Here we have it, my cut progress from the start to the morning of my photoshoot with @benmarkphoto Total weight difference -8.6lbs. This has been one of the most mentally tough diets for me, because I couldn’t see my progress even though it was happening. I was under a lot of stress, starting a business and trying to juggle my time between my goals and my clients goals and doing everything for @erc_coaching ...But we got there! Im so happy I ticked one thing off my bucket list this year which was to do a photoshoot and I can’t believe I had the confidence I did in front of that camera. My plans were to go straight into an improvement season after the shoot, but those plans have now changed and I want to continue cutting away and getting in a better position before adding some more muscle tissue.
