Meet Brazils first highline (just 12m/40ft long), located in Enseada do Bananal, Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. Neil Gresham (@neil.gresham), a british sportsman, pioneered when rigging a line in 1995, and literally took the first steps in the birth of this beautiful activity in Brazil. Its now grown into a very serious sport and in Rio only we have hundreds of lines, some easy to set up, some requiring the most epic missions. Yesterday, in the line and photo, was my friend Gustavo Costa (@gustacosta00). Warms my heart to be documenting the evolution of something so creative and breathtaking! This picture capture the moment in which I felt the most comfortable, confident, strong and supported while climbing. This picture doesnt show the women of color spotting me and shouting Noelia, you got this behind me. Last year, I had the opportunity to attend Color the Crag as a volunteer. This event is a climbing festival that celebrates diversity in the sport by gathering and connecting climbers of color to build a sense of community. I knew I was going to climb, but I had no idea the effect this event will have in my life. This event became a sacred safe heaven that gave me the opportunity to not just climb with a community of color for the first time, but also share and listen to experiences that were not isolated but shared by all of us on our day to day lives, at the gym and at the crag. I left this space energized and ready to acknowledge and tackle the emotions and challenges that come with the isolation of not being represented in the outdoors. I left this space with the desire to be part of, support and create spaces like this for my family, friends and community to learn, share and explore. I see and experienced the power of this space and I want more affinity spaces for myself and my communities to gather and be. These days when I climb I try my hardest to picture myself surrounded by my community of climbers of color, women of color, that had my back when this picture was taken.📍Tsalaguwetiyi (Cherokee), Chickasaw, Creek Territories 📷 @doogieroux #BrownGirlsClimb #mountainhardwear #flashfoxy - @noelias_glimpse on Instagram
