Saturday Success! I’m so excited that the Four Roses OESF 12 year 6 month old Single Barrel pick arrived at Hops Grain and Vine on Thursday. It was so much fun picking this epic short barrel with @steeev.o.o , @bermansbourbon and @bourbonwhisperer The Four Roses @fourrosesbourbon barrel pick experience is such a awesome experience. Love chatting with @mandy_jo_vance and going through the available barrels. I really enjoy seeing stores succeed with their picks to the point that when they drop they are instantly gone. I love how so many Four Roses fans kept asking the store about the release and were able to get one of these gems. Denna destillerar vi sedan om i vår Coffey still med kaffe i vår ångkorg/botanikkorg. Detta kommer ge en Vodka med en fet smörighet, runda trätoner och en gräsig örtighet från sädesreceptet och upplyft av kaffet. Each batch of the QuintEssential represents a new “fill” of our Solera Vat. And each time we fill our Solera Vat, the entire production team (and sometimes even non-production employees) gets to taste through a bunch of different barrels in order to determine which barrels should be added to the Vat. This Single Malt Whiskey is from the Hanyu distillery, that was located in a town bearing its name on the banks of the Tone river. The distillery was surrounded by barley and paddy fields. Hanyu was making malt whiskey in the traditional Scottish way, but unfortunately stopped distilling in 2000. The pot-stills and other whisky equipment were completely dismantled in 2004 because of a change of ownership. Fortunately the stocks and facilities were saved by Ichiro, the grandson of the founders of the Hanyu distillery. His new distillery is now situated on the hills of Chichibu-Shi, the place where he was born. A truly precious bottle. Hakushu Bourbon Barrel, an old release of non chill filtered Hakushu matured in first fill bourbon barrels. This was released in the prehistoric year of 2011, when these would sit on the shelves of BIC camera for months at 10,000yen and the slimy reptilians who hunt them today have yet to develop their now gigantic flippers nor a taste for whisky. Enter Bar Rubins Vase, one of Earths last bastions of fairly priced libations. This bottle is just hiding in the corner, waiting for me. I dont remember the exact notes as I was having such a good time chatting with old and new friends, dont even remember how many drams I had, but 1 thing i remember is this is a thick, sweet Hakushu and Im loving every sip of it. To be labeled Bottled-in-Bond, whisky must be from one distillation season, in the same year and aged in a federally bonded warehouse. Angel’s Envy Distillery visit - Today was a great day to go to @angelsenvy as I was able to purchase their Limited Release of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak Casks! I cannot wait to uncork this expression. There are about 1,200 bottles total and about 140-150 were released today. Everything about this release is First Class. From the bourbon and how it was barreled, to the amazing bottle/decanter, and the overall packaging. Finally, the actual release at the distillery and how well it was handled. The leadership of Angel’s Envy were great as they personally greeted people in line and thanked everyone for coming. Angel’s Envy also had employees hand out free water and cookies to people waiting in line nice touch! Additionally, Lead Distillery Operator, Andrew Henderson and Co-Founder and Chief Innovation Officer, Wes Henderson were on hand to personally sign bottles and other Angel’s Envy gear. All in all a great day. Talisker 10yo - Island single malt. Who else has been to this stunning distillery on the Isle of Skye? A great looking distillery situated in a beautiful location. I couldn’t stop taking pictures. The one in this post was one panorama photo I have split into three. With Aberdeen having been in lockdown again I had to get a bit more creative with finding shots for bottles. One of mine and @emmabarclay89 go to spots have been Johnston Gardens. A lovely spot to escape city life right in the city and an ideal spot to snap this shot of the Elgin Classic. This is the entry level bottling that can be picked up in all good local stores for a reasonable price. A good daily drinker that’s very light and floral on the nose. Well balanced and smooth on the palate without any really big flavours. A reasonable finish, again without really offering too much. This does leave me interested to sample some more of their offerings... The Nikka company operates a number of distilleries in Japan, two of the most known is the Miyagikyo and the Yoichi. The Miyagikyo distillery is located in Sendai, in the Miyagi Prefecture and was established in 1969. The  Yoichi distillery is located in Yoichi, Hokkaidō  and was established in 1934. Bourbon County Stout — @GooseIsland’s annual barrel-aged special release — will celebrate a decade this fall as a post-Thanksgiving tradition for beer fans when the brewery will roll out the 2020 offerings on Friday, November 27. THE YAMAZAKI 2020 LIMITED EDITIONS . They’re back? . Though there has yet to be an official announcement, a recent post on a Japanese whisky FB group suggests that on November 4, we will see a release of 5️⃣ new NAS Yamazaki expressions via lottery: . ▪️Mizunara ▪️Puncheon ▪️Red Wine ▪️Spanish Oak ▪️Peated Malt . All except the Mizunara will be ¥11,000. That one will be ¥30,000. Based off the low res image ➡️, this feels legit to me. . We haven’t seen this big a release from Yamazaki since the distillery released 4 expressions in 2013, so this is pretty exciting news. . The 2010 Puncheon and 2013 Bourbon Barrel both have market prices that greatly exceed the expected drinking value (MP EDV). Even though they go for even more now, they were too expensive to drink the day I got them. Therefore even though I‘ll have to pay above RRP, I’m hoping to get multiples of the 2020s so I crack some and add to these as well. Me and a billion other people will have the same idea so it will be tough without overpaying. . If I could only get one of these, it would be the Mizunara. Yamazaki’s longtime use of 100% Mizunara Oak aged whisky is a big key to what makes its whisky unique, and the 18 Mizunara is one of the most unique expressions I’ve ever had. . That said, the last NAS Yamazaki Mizunara was the 2014 release with an outturn of only 1600 bottles. A beautiful release from Braes of Glenlivet (AKA Braeval). Braeval has been around since 1973 and sits nice and close to its big brother The Glenlivet. This 25 year old is part of the Secret Speyside range launched just last year in Travel retail and now emote recently in the UK. I’m lucky enough to have tried the range and this 25 stood out. Feel very lucky to have pulled this bottle at RRP, a rarely seen Glengoyne single cask - my first one. 100% European Oak sherry cask goodness. 🤤 Thanks to @royalmilewhiskies for the safe delivery. . Now with any hot bottle released these days, what’s one of the first things that happens? Some end up on auction! And sure enough, and I saw several listed on the two major auction sites the previous weekend, selling for £290-£300 before commissions/VAT. . If you were the seller, you paid £190 for the bottle, let’s say £10 for delivery, and £5 to list it. That’s an easy £85-£95 profit for basically doing nothing. . So it was interesting to see RMW send an email last Thursday about their new “Drammer’s Reward,” a pro-bottle opening/anti-flipping program. . In an effort to thwart flipping and encourage customers to open their bottles, RMW is doing something interesting. They price certain hot bottles at £5-£10 above RRP. £5 for those under £100, £10 for those over. For online orders, if the customer agrees to have his name and order number written on the bottle, he/she will receive a £10 or £20 voucher to use on the next order. This is optional. For store purchases, if the customer comes back later with the bottle open, he/she gets that same £10 or £20 “reward.” . For store purchases, the voucher entices you to open your bottle. You pay more upfront but you get it back and then some when you crack the bottle. And once one’s open, obviously it can’t be resold or sent to auction. Now I didn’t see any “fine print” about the rules and stipulations... can I come back 5 years later after I finally crack a bottle to receive a voucher? 🤪 . For online orders, the name and order number on the bottle is a deterrent to flipping. I guess you *still* could flip a bottle even if it had your name on it, but then I assume you’d be banned on RMW. If the other shops also cared (I’m not sure they do), they could potentially have a shared blacklist of people not to sell to. . Omar Cask Strength, b.2017, Black Queen Wine Barrel Finished, Cask nos. 21090338 & 21090339, 863 bottles, 56% abv. Color seems a little purple. Bartender says it was matured in a bourbon barrel first and then finished in a Taiwanese plum wine cask, Black Queen wine barrel finished. Bartender suspects its 5-7 years. I believe this is the first release. Right now they have the second batch in TW. Nose: very fruity, fruit perfume, fruit oil, salty green apples, apple skin, young cherries, raspberries, plums, a sort of very oily sherry but not quite sherry. Palate: medium body, complex, dry, initial palate has white sugar, a sort of oily wine, mid palate shows more sweetness develop, gummy fruits pop up suddenly, general fruit roll ups, stone fruit popsicles always comes after the generic fruit roll ups on each sip, fish bone soup, slightly salty, back palate has a weird fruit wood combination, old browning apples. A lot going on. Awesome. Finish: long, cool, fish scales, mostly appleskin, major young and browning apples, concentrated boiled apricots, aloe, a sort of tropical plant set. This is quite a surprise for me as prior to this I have never had a good Omar. The flavor profile is full and offers so much, a variety of flavors, varying intensity, and the subtleness of it all, the red fruits, the processed sweet fruits, the stone fruits, the oils, the marine life, accompanying salt, and the variety of flavors I cant seem to describe because of their mysterious-ness, but I have experienced a few of them in my travels throughout the world. Amazing. Almost methodical. Gonna be a little liberal here just because. 非常簡短的心路歷程，算是紀錄一下在低潮期的心境變化。對於它的紀錄在最後一段。   今天就是來聊天抽雨傘的，沒抽到半把，卻承蒙朋友餽贈兩把，深為感銘🥃。  這兩個月期間雖獲利四十余萬，心中卻總有忐忑，懊惱過去操作中的失誤、擔心能否堅持不懈把持紀律、在沒有操作股票的時間中總感到寢食難安，患得患失到了近乎憂鬱的地步。  獨自品酒的時間少了，也失了興致。這是在我以往被套牢或是尚未獲利了結時未出現的憂鬱情緒。對於跟同輩交際苦手的我來說無疑是一場大災難。  聚在一起分享威士忌，交流彼此人生經驗的氛圍妙不可言。幫助我暫時脫離了窘迫的現狀。相隔兩天相見時，彼此再度交流了短期規劃，感覺更加踏實滿足。  這幾位忘年之交絕對是需要用心維持住的良師益友，我該做好的就是漸漸放下執念，勇敢講出以前不敢說出口的話。堅持不懈，滴水可穿石。  誠心祈禱朋友的麵店能生意興隆、一帆風順🙏。   這舊裝瓶的阿貝10，味道香氣實在妙，我可以用生命保證不論是否盲飲，是絕不會與新裝瓶聯想到一起，聞香上只能憑藉記憶描述，少了許多foreshots燃燒橡膠輪胎的氣味，雲尼拿與奶油味少了許多，取而帶之的是一些熟果香與香蕉油的味道，還有潮濕森林裡的木質、濕葉、菇類、土壤的陳香味。酒體忘了、單寧感忘了、口中本應有的大量煙燻與燒稻草味被淡淡煙燻味與一股非常明顯的清新焚香以及一些新鮮香草味所取代，尾韻忘了記，因為我在聊天😅。     #Whisky#Whiskey #scotch#ウィスキー#威士忌#aquavitae #whiskylover#islay#peaty#ardbeg#singlemaltwhisky    - @whisky_alexswj on Instagram

Kavalan is one of the worlds finest whisky producers, based in Yilan county, Taiwan. The distillery takes the old name of the region it’s in, living up to the translation ‘A land of blessing’ with many incredible malts coming from their stills. A favourite of ours & many others being the Solist Vinho Barrique Single cask strength (winner of World’s best Single Malt Whisky 2015, WWA). Fully matured in American oak wine barrels it has a complex notes of pepper, spice, dates & other fruits such as ripe melon, mango & kiwi.
