Cultivating the emotional life “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.” - Morrie Schwartz Love is vitally important in building our bodies and allowing our lives to have the highest degree of satisfaction and fulfillment. We think that we have to make something happen in this life or something must interact with us in order for us to be moved to feel any of the feelings we feel. Most of us just wait for good things to happen so that we can feel good. And we wait for loving things to happen so that we can feel love. We really dont need to ever wait. We were born to feel exactly what we choose to! The complete truth is we cultivate and nurture all the feelings that come to the surface in our lives. We are the ones responsible for how we feel in each moment. There is no one who inserts feelings into us, or extracts them from us. All of the reasons that we give for our feelings are simply the excuses we allow ourselves to feel and express all that we do. But these feelings always come from within, never from outside of us. We have to lean toward any feelings and give it energy in order for it to gain enough momentum to allow us to feel anything strongly. When I awake each morning, I actively tell myself what kind of wonderful day I am going to have. No matter how I feel, I push all that aside and I intentionally tell myself I wonder what kind of awesome day am I going to have today? This helps me set the stage to actively look for what I want in my day. It literally tells my brain to be on the look out for good stuff! A wonderfully loving life happens because we decide to take the kind of stance in life that allows love indiscriminately. And when you add it up, if the preponderance of experiences that we have are colored with love and joyful feelings then we can easily feel that we have a loving and joyful life. You are in control of how you feel, because you control your focus of attention and the thoughts you think. I am love. I am joy. I am so very good. Oh and yes... De aankopen gebeuren bij het grootste primatenonderzoekscentrum van Europa, het Biomedical Primate Research Center (BRPC) in Nederland. Deze maand maakte Animal Rights nog trieste beelden van de apen die momenteel in het BPRC opgesloten zitten. Dit zijn aapjes die nog niet weten welke gruwelijke hersenexperimenten er op hen te wachten staan. Ze zitten op elkaar gepropt achter tralies en gesloten laboramen in een onnatuurlijke en deprimerende omgeving. These guys need snacks! Last year I got to visit Animal Tracks animal sanctuary. They rescue and care for abused monkeys, kangaroos, wolves and all sorts of great animals. They run the sanctuary with donations from visitors. Because of the pandemic, they can’t have visitors anymore so they don’t have money to care for these guys:( If you can help, please do. sharing a beautiful experience I had few weeks back, I was staying with a friend ( @mahendra_negi_uttarakhand ) I found this little guy near our place, he was attacked by some street dogs and was left to die by his own kind. but me and @mahendra_negi_uttarakhand found him just in time. he was badly injured. we took him to doctor, doctor refused to treat him saying that its closing time and told us to come back next day. so we took him back to our place and applied some haldi (turmeric is considered as antibiotic) on his wounds and tried to feed him. he did drink some milk (very little, but he couldnt much, he was so badly injured). just in few days, he got well and started doing his monkey things 😅 last slide shows him reuniting with his family and that was just a beautiful emotional moment for us! Advice for the brave incoming interns. Practice the pause. Before you enter an order, pause and double check. Before you respond to someone speaking negatively or angrily to you, pause and meet them with kindness. Before you enter a room to deliver bad news, pause and embrace the discomfort. Take your time. Leave your pager with a colleague before you enter. You are not expected to know it all. And you don’t know it all. And that is a beautiful thing. That is why you work as a team. Learn from each other. You will have great senior residents and some that aren’t so great. There is something to learn from all of them. Sometimes it’s what NOT to do. They will all play a role in the type of doctor you become. Respect that and therefore, respect them. Always speak the truth. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. You will make mistakes. Own them. You will earn people’s respect. They will trust you. That goes a very long way. In order to show up for your patients, you need to show up for yourself. Take time every day to do the things that ground you. Even 15 minutes spent doing something you love will give you stamina to survive what seems a never-ending call shift. Get your own doctor. Don’t forget about your health. Call your mom. Or a friend. Call your person, whoever they may be. At least once per week. You matter. Your opinion matters. But make sure you contribute in a respectful way. Get to know the staff, even if it is just their name. The nurse. The phlebotomist. The custodial engineer. The cafeteria cashier. The radiology tech. Greet them with a smile. You may make their day. When you are walking back to the call room in the middle of the night after responding to a code and you run into them and they greet you with a smile, it will make your day. You can do this. Joining the ranks of many mammalian beings before me. If all goes as it should Riley and I are going to have a bebe in December. 🔮 I’ve been gestating since the first week of quarantine and we have temporarily relocated to smoky Santa Cruz to be with my family during this wild time. It truly feels like an insane time to invite someone into this world and the journey thus far has been very isolating for me even though my body is housing two people and I am as healthy as I can be. I am very lucky to be under such incredible care with access to affordable midwives. The more I learn about the process of giving birth (rather, giving LIFE) in this country, the more I realize how rare my experience is... Being pregnant in a culture where whole counties in CA are on fire because of a gender reveal toy or people congregate despite a global pandemic to eat cakes made out of diapers has led me to do a lot of scratching my noodle/gourd/dome. The perinatal disparities in the USA are some of the worst in the world. Black and indigenous birthing people are 4-5x more likely to die in childbirth than white women. Such statistics are just part of a long history of obstetric violence and racism targeting pregnant POC. If you dont know the history or present statistics, @everymomcounts is a great resource. If you can, I suggest donating to any of the following organizations: @sistamidwives @birthequality or go to @blackmamasmatter to check out their list of partners to find an organization in your area... Remember to send love to the people around you, even if they arent physically around you... you never know what someones going through. This morning I packed my bags and drove to Bali‘s Satria Market, in Denpasar, which sells everything from bats and monkeys to exotic birds, snakes, and fish. 🐒🐧🦎🐍 . When I arrived and saw all of these different animals trapped in small cages with no space to move... I felt shocked and couldn’t believe my eyes. I walked through the market to get a closer look and there I saw the chained monkey...The seller told me that this monkey is from the neighbour island Sumatra and I could have the monkey for a price of only 60€... . Following up on the request from @vpollano to “post a photo of yourself traveling anywhere”—as I’ve been doing a lot of travel reminiscing lately, I thought I’d go way back into the archives. To spring 2009 and Indonesia, my first proper holiday escape after I moved to Dubai in June 2008. It was notable to me for a couple reasons: My first vacation that lasted longer than a week (I took 10 days because 2 weeks just seemed so decadent to me back then, coming from the American mindset of holidays being 7 days); and it was my first time in Asia, which has ever since remained one of my most enduring love affairs. This was in Bali’s Sacred Monkey Forest, in Ubud. I spent the brunt of the holiday traveling around Java, and was unsure about going to Bali as it seemed too touristic (and this was pre-“Eat, Pray, Love” movie madness). In the end I ended up spending the last few days in Bali—Lovina and Ubud—and am glad I did. Touristy? Sure. But also beautiful and cultural. Let’s face it, places become tourist hotspots for a reason and Bali is genuinely beguiling. I know it’s changed a lot in the past 11 years, and is somewhere I’m interested to revisit in the future. 【オールジャパン備忘録後編】 決勝進出の6人に残りステージ裏でいよいよ最後のパンプアップ！ふとスマホを見ると予選から来られていたある有名トレーナーさんから「もっと張るはず。パンプで息上げて。ボディビルの規定ポーズでアップだよ」といったメッセージを頂いていました。そうなんだ、やってみよう！ そんな訳で、フィジークのステージ前にボディビルの規定ポーズをしていた私は変なヤツと思われたかも知れません笑。でもおかげ様でカラダは良く張りました😙 結果は3位で(ここはアッサリ)、優勝は連覇中の田村さんではなく名古屋のカトちゃんさん。大番狂わせでカトちゃん自身も驚いていました笑笑。私は優勝を狙っていたので少しばかり残念でしたが、初出場で3位もなかなか、今年はここまででいいだろうと。 そんなオールジャパンを終え、千葉から車を出してくれた20年来の友人青木さんと大阪の街に。まずはタコ焼きとビール。う、うまい！その後は串揚げ屋、ピザ屋をハシゴしてフラフラしながらホテルに戻りました(青木さんはディープな夜の街に消えていきました) 旅の思い出ってふとした場面が印象深かったりするもので、今回はコンテスト翌朝、ホテルのランドリールームで乾燥機を回していた時の音や日差しや匂いをよく覚えています。妙に穏やかで、心からホッとした瞬間だったのかも知れませんね。いい朝だな、みたいな。乾燥機シートの香りが好きなのもありますかね。 そんな訳で2019年オールジャパン備忘録は今回で最後。最後までお読み頂きましてありがとうございました。 - @sekiguchi.takao on Instagram

The extinction of this top predator is an indication that its ecosystem is not sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter. As the story goes, a farmer settled in the peaceful mountains of Yamanouchi many years ago, and constructed his onsen around a natural hot spring beside his residence. He quickly acquired some messy, smelly and rambunctious guests from higher in the forest, as a family of snow macaques descended upon his private spa. Fed up with the snow monkeys, he hiked high up the into the mountains, found another hot spring and built the monkeys their own private bathing area to keep them at bay. It sort of worked, they still like the man-made structures. These days the monkeys spend hours each day swimming, grooming, eating, mating and playing at the Jigokudani Monkey Park near Shiga Kogen, Nagano Prefecture. It’s the only place in the world where you can catch a bus to the town centre and take a 45 min forest walk in -15 degrees celsius to witness these human-like creatures up close and personnel. - @risenfilm on Instagram
