Last Thursday I had the opportunity to go for a run with some friends... . Well sort of ... . @jennvall11 and Jake were in a car and I was chasing them for a bit 😂. This @atriumhealth crew came out to @birkdalevillagenc to help me talk about my #endometriosis: the struggle to get a proper diagnosis, the effect it had on my life and the hope and healing Dr. Vilasagar gave me. . So I was totally nervous, anxious and worried I wasn’t going to know what to say, but this crew and @coffee_n_cardio made it easy... and fun! I mean who else can say they ran down the #birkdale greenway while a cameraman was chasing them? 🤣.. . It takes around 8 years on average (with statistics ranging from 6 to 10 years) to diagnose endometriosis since the first symptoms. While reliving the trauma of the last couple of years of my life is not fun or easy - there were a lot of tears- it’s worth it knowing I can increase #endometriosisawareness . The commercial i DPd for @barrettfilmco got released today! So i want to go into some more detail about how I lit it! Alot of the colour came from our locations and costume, the studio had a blue colourama to contrast with the yellow jumper our actor wore. And the exteriors where all vibrant locations! The studio was keyed by a booklight with the extremely punchy @rayzr_light 7, 300 Daylight. Which was shot into the white bounce fabric of a @lastolitebymanfrotto 1x1 frame which was then diffused by a 5x10m sheet of diffusion for a big wrappy soft source. I then opted for the @falconeyeshk RX18TD as a backlight, slightly warmer at 5000K in a softbox with diff and grid to avoid it spilling. Rigged on a C stand and boomed over the set. For all of the exteriors we used the same 1x1 frame as either diff for direct sun or as a neg fill to add shape to the shots with no direct light. Im really happy with the end result! And the @ursamini with @samyanglensglobal lenses performed fantastically as usual! Behind-the-Scenes: Photoshoots are work!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I dont care what anyone says; photoshoots are not fun. There is a lot of planning, and its usually an intense day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ive done many shoots in my career. In Corporate, we did mostly product shoots. You start about two months before scouting location and making or buying the props.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are doing a shoot with models, you need to spend a week looking at pictures to pick the model you feel is the best for the job.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When doing a shoot, it takes a team. You have a make-up artist, hairstylist, photographer, lighting, and help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had a fashion business after I left corporate. Fashion is defiantly different than corporate. Long hours and picture after picture to get the right one can be stressful. I was managing a team of people that do it mostly for the love of fashion.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It changes is when you are in the pictures. Instead of managing the shoot, you are in the shoot. That is double duty. I have managed the shoot, plus being one of the models. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What I do love is looking at the pictures afterward. Shoots are work, but the reward is the output and thats why I do it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shoots are part of the job. So happy to announce the release of the LACUNA RE-IMAGINED EP! All tracks are based on live one-take recordings performed in my kitchen, with no edits made to the take. I stuck to my general rule of 3 takes for each tune, and willfully chose to perform the bulk of these without a click, although on two of the six tracks I used analog drum machines, going back to my earliest days of writing & playing. The wonderfully inspiring musician/composer @emilywellsmusic and her accompanist @topu_lyo were generous enough to collaborate with me on string arrangements which we basically recorded on the fly in my living room over the course of three days. Shortly after my dear friend and neighbor @stuartbogie joined the project and added the horns & woodwinds, breathing extra layers of new life into these raw takes. Major gratitude to @jackdeboe for helping me finish up & mix the tracks during quarantine! This year marks the 15th year since my father passed away. He was 45 at the time and would have turned 60 this year. As raw as these recordings are, I’m so happy to be able to share them with anyone willing to experience them. I put so much love into them and I am partnering with the @callenlorde Community Health Center in NYC, which helped both my father and I during rough times while he was still alive. They continue to do really important work for vulnerable minority groups in the city and in Brooklyn and are inevitably affected by the current Covid pandemic.
