Lili Reinhart has explained why she waited to publicly come out as bisexual. The 24-year-old actress, best known for her role as Betty Cooper on Riverdale, came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month, telling fans that she identifies as a “proud bisexual woman”. In a new interview with Jeffrey Masters for LGBTQ&A, a podcast produced by The Advocate magazine, Reinhart said she refrained from coming out as bisexual sooner because of the harmful stereotypes and assumptions that still surround the community. “I’ve wanted people to know that I am bisexual, but I’ve never felt that there was a right time to do it,” she admitted. “I was afraid of coming out. I didn’t want people to tell me that I was lying to get attention or something. And so I just kept my mouth shut. “I also I’ve told people in the past and they’ve told me, ‘Oh, it’s a phase.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, great, thanks.’ So that’s discouraging, obviously.” Reinhart said she attempted to come out as “nonchalantly as possible” because she doesn’t consider a person’s sexuality to be a “big deal,” adding: “The way I look at the world right now, I’m like, ‘Isn’t everyone bisexual?’ “So I didn’t really feel like this was any breaking news by any means. The way we talk about food matters. A LOT. • At the risk of repeating a REALLY overused joke, the only clean thing about your food is that you washed it (hopefully). • So to the parent who tells me that your child “eats clean” → What I really think you’re trying to tell me is: you are trying you very best to give your child a healthy diet while minimizing the foods you think are unhealthy. • This is AMAZING. And I know that you saying this is you just trying to be a good parent. • BUT, there are three potential issues I have with “clean eating”. • 1️⃣ CLEAN EATING IS NOT A THING. There is no universal definition for clean eating. There is no secret scale that nutrition experts use to rate a diets cleanliness. “Clean eating” is a term coined by the wellness industry to make you feel like your child’s diet (or yours) is “dirty”, and that you need a product/supplement/treatment to fix it. 2️⃣ When you say food is “clean”, you are implying that other food is “dirty”. Our children generally get the message (from you or others) that dirty is bad and clean is good. And now we have associated morality with food. We are indirectly telling our kids that they are good when they eat a certain way, and bad when they eat another. And THIS mentality can lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. • 3️⃣ The idea of eating “clean” perpetuates the notion that the only healthy diet is one free of additives, colors, anything in a wrapper, non-organic produce, sugar, and pretty much anything else that can be considered “bad”. BUT, the truth is, your child’s diet can be healthy WITH these things or WITHOUT. • What’s WAY more important than your child’s diet being “clean”? • Healthy relationships with food Family meals Social skills learned at mealtimes Learning life skills in the kitchen Fruits and veggies (canned, frozen, famers market, all of the above) VARIETY • Rant over. Share this with someone who needs to know that the number of packaged foods that they serve their kids is not a measure of their parenting skills. I uploaded this post on my socials today and a fierce debate regarding marital expectations from women emerged underneath. Those who tend to constantly undervalue and misrepresent feminism chose to ‘act’ surprised that such practices are common in our society and in fact, sought to justify such actions under the guise of ‘compromise’. The reality is that a MAJORITY of Pakistani women are still subjected to such irrational and unfair expectations after marriage. It may seem simple- what’s wrong with a wife waking her husband up for work. But it points to a larger attitude- that of a grown man needing constant attention and servitude for things he can easily do for himself. If marriage is compromise, then why is 90% of that compromise directed at women? It’s time to change this attitude. I was asked briefly about my diet & exercise 🏋🏼♀️, which my MD assessed as being “healthy” and not a problem. ⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ I was at my lowest weight ever as an adult woman, but it was within the “normal” BMI range which I thoroughly believe influenced their decision to put me on birth control 💊 instead of investigating further to see if I could be undereating or overexercising (hint: I was)⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ .⠀⠀ I don’t blame the doctors entirely, because even if they asked me at the time I’m sure I would’ve sugar-coated things.
