Great 11 days on the Northville – Lake Placid Trail. Established by the Adirondack Mountain Club in 1923. Starts in Northville, 50 miles northwest of Albany, NY in the Adirondack mountains of Upstate New York. The largest state park in the United States. Winds northward through valleys and over ridges, crossing rivers and wetlands 133 miles north to Lake Placid. Planned on finishing but ended up hiking 80+ miles but only 50+ on the trail so a 1/3 completed. Wow what an a amazing area! Most nights fell asleep to the sounds of owls, loons, beaver, coyote, mountain streams, a little rain and in the lean-tos mice! Met some great and interesting people and had an easy time hitching back to my car back down in Northville. Carried a little too much stuff, food mainly as I missed the Northville Post Office by 10 minutes and carried what I had planned to mail to the Piseco PO. - @sigpatagon on Instagram

Managed to get one side of the roof of my cabin completely done💚🌿 - It’s GREEN!!! - Swipe left to see the process of today. Glad I used the first 4 hours this morning getting spruce rafters ready. The rain forced me to drink more coffee (sort of), but I lifted the tarp over the construction and was able to continue the lashings. Around midday the structure of the second side was ready for a roof too. Placed the tarpaulin I had bought for the project on the roof - and basically just sewed it onto the frame with jute twine. Used an improvised awl/needle made from a stick, had it fixed in no time. Placed a few more branches on top of the tarpaulin. Not many, just enough to secure the moss wouldn’t fall down. Someone asked me why I had tied on a vertical raft at the bottom of each side; they make sure that neither branches or moss can slide. Pushed on, and gathered a lot of moss for the roof. Just using my ground sheath to carry it on. (Note; if you use moss for a shelter, always make sure not to take it from the same site. The moss must have a chance to grow back. It’s worth the extra long walks.) Placed moss securely to one side, all the way. Looks kinda cool I think - and insulates a bit too. Gonna make the other side where the door is tomorrow. Right now; Making dinner inside my new half finished cabin by the light of a lantern. Feels good 👍🏼🌿🥘 A good nights sleep will be good too I guess. This week, we started working on Every Child Counts school which is right next to our base and we will continue to work on this school for the next 3 months. We only have one more week until we are out of quarantine and we can begin going out into the community and work on homes!
