Yes girl 🔥• @kiers10levin Barbell vs. Smith Machine Ask a weightlifter how the smith machine compares to the barbell/free weights and most of them will give you a snobby, uninformed, ego-driven opinion about how superior the barbell is. (Usually a bro in a stringer tee 🙄) While I personally emphasize barbell/free weight movements in my training over their machine counterparts, it’s purely for one simple reason. Core strength. Take the back squat for example, on both the smith and barbell the movement pattern is the same, where they differ is core activity. (Swipe to see the comparison 👉🏼) In this case the smith machine does the bulk of the core work for you. As is true for most gym machines when compared to their free weight versions. But that doesn’t make them inferior. In fact this can actually make them superior in some cases if hypertrophy is your ultimate goal. Machines allow you to push heavier weight without having to worry about form breakdown. They can improve your ability to isolate a muscle and make a good MMC, since you have a lot less to think about form-wise. On the flip side, machines may not always offer the ideal movement pattern, and leave little room for modifications. So instead of choosing one or the other, include a mix of free weights and machines in your training.
