Our culture has a long history, our culture is beautiful colors, traditions, music and food. We know everything about loyalty and how to be a strong supportive community. We are family. Always. But our culture is not misogynistic. Yes it exists with us just like in all other cultures but it is NOT our culture. As everywhere, we too are affected by patriarchal structures that expose women to sexism, oppression and hatred. It does not belong to a culture or tradition. It is a problem that manifests itself in various ways all over the world. We see it in Sweden. We see it in Iran, we see it in Balochistan. I remind you that it is not our culture because it also means that it should not be something we want to keep. Nothing we should stick to as if it were part of our beautiful traditions. Because its not. To dare to oppose the oppression of women does not mean that we want to change the culture, but rather to break down the walls that do not allow us to live fully. Walls that does not allow our sisters and mothers to live in freedom. I wear my clothes with pride. My roots remind me of strength, courage and family. It gives me strength. I love us. But I also love us enough to dare to raise my voice against those things that hurts us. I fight for womens freedom in Sweden, in Iran and Balochistan. As I baloch-iranian women born in Sweden I can promise you that oppression against women comes in different shapes but the oppression ALWAYS has the same sender no matter where in the world one lives. It has the same basis. And the same pattern. It is NOT our culture. It has never belonged to anyones culture. Remember that. We can do better. We must dare to do better.
