BUILDING MUSCLE Building muscle can be a long, slow yet rewarding process. Sometimes it’s helpful to understand the mechanisms that underpin muscle building, so that you can ensure you’re covering all your bases, to build and retain muscle mass. When a muscle experiences a sufficient stimulus for growth from resistance training, it is promoted to adapt. This is because muscle fibres experience micro-damage which needs to be recovered and once adaptation takes place (after recovery), the muscle is more resilient to that previous stimulus. This adaptation is muscle hypertrophy; growth of the muscle fibres. Hypertrophy requires the primary stimulus of mechanical tension but may also be augmented via metabolic stress and muscle damage. You can hit all these 3 mechanisms by lifting with a high effort in each set (close to failure), working in a variety of rep ranges and utilising different exercises. DIET Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to be eating in a 800 calorie surplus to gain muscle, you just need to be eating enough. If you are in a slight surplus, you optimize muscle building as there are circulating nutrients for maximal muscle protein synthesis. Focus on eating enough protein - around 1.8-2.2 grams per kilogram of bodyweight is ideal for females. This is non-negotiable, whereas your carb and fat intake can be played around with, to see what works best for you - typically higher carb lower fat for muscle gain. SLEEP If you’re not sleeping properly, you are unknowingly activating specific pathways that activate muscle degradation. Insufficient sleep causes a spike in cortisol (a stress hormone) and a reduction of testosterone and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), two hormones integral to muscle and strength building. The reduction of these hormones puts us in a catabolic state, meaning our bodies break down muscle tissue. GLASGOW COMA SCALE 🧠👀💪🏼🗣 The Glasgow Coma Scale is a standardized neurological assessment scale 🧠 used to assess the functional state of the brain as a whole and the patient’s level of consciousness. The GCS is an assessment tool that you’ll be using all throughout your nursing career! The highest possible score is 15 which indicates that the patient is fully alert. 📝 GCS 13-15 Score = Mild head injury GCS 9-12 Score = Moderate head injury GCS 3-8 Score = Severe head injury If a patient’s eye opening response 👀 cannot be assessed due to swelling of the eyes, record “C” for eye opening. They are evaluated only based on motor and verbal response score and the suffix “C” is added to their score (max score 11C and minimum score is 2C). Do the best with what you have on any given day🙌🏻. Maybe its the end of the month and youre running low on money and food. Maybe youre tired. Maybe youre postpartum and youre doing your best on no sleep. Maybe the kids simply dont like anything but a sandwich right now. Maybe the kids arent very hungry for lunch and you dont want to waste food Maybe insert-any-other-reason-here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Im not say to never offer fruits and veggies. Im simply pointing out that some days we have good reasons why a sandwich or a sandwich and crackers is whats for lunch. And thats fine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because I know youre already doing your best and you dont need to be shamed or judged about your choices. Maybe you dont even feel like you have choices and youre making it all work anyway. I see your efforts—whichever way they may look when it comes to feeding your kids—and I applaud you. 6 weeks vs. 12 weeks postpartum . This is after 2 weeks of our postnatal Barre program and now I’m on round 2 of our newest 3 week muscle building program. To me, it doesn’t look like much but I feel GREAT! I’ve gone from barely being able to do body weight exercises, not being able to jump, to now jumping in every workout during the cardio rounds, AND continuing to up my weights without pain!! . I KNEW these programs would continue to serve me well postpartum and I’m so thankful they do. I love how easy they are to do while being a stay at home mom to our Michael, too ((let’s face it some days I’m pausing my workout three times or more to tend to Michael)) but STILL! All I have to do is hit pause and continue again when I can. No big deal. . La postura es controlada por el análisis que hace el cerebro del ambiente para mejorar la eficiencia del movimiento. La percepción del espacio no se hace solo por la propiocepcion, la capacidad del cuerpo de percibirse en el espacio sino que se apoya en un trípode: la vista, los pies y los dientes. A partir de estás sensaciones la columna y el resto de los segmentos reaccionan al espacio. Un corrector postural corrige el síntoma pero no la causa, si por ejemplo tenés pie plano o bruxismo, (o te falta una muela) hasta que no soluciones eso, la postura no se corrige. Consecuencias del corrector: *Pérdida de fuerza muscular *Refuerzo de patrones anormales de movimiento que generan dolor *Desalineación de los segmentos *Desmejora de la función respiratoria y digestiva. - @kinececi on Instagram
