Long ago this jar with new leaves was stored in the ground or in the mountains to keep it cool. Around the November 7 or 8, the new season of tea begins and the Ro is used for the first time indicating the start of the winter season. At this time, to celebrate the beginning of a new season of tea, the seal of the jar with new tea plucked in spring is broken and the new, fresh tea is used for the first time. Breaking this seal of the jar is called Kuchikiri. 📸 Las calles de Hanoi son un espectáculo 🏍. Desde sus diminutas veredas surgen árboles que se elevan hacia el cielo 🌳 y se cruzan con gran cantidad de cables que cuelgan desde los postes de luz. En sus costados destacan las construcciones angostas. Ahí funcionan gran diversidad de negocios, desde cuyas puertas cuelgan banderas vietnamitas 🇻🇳. En este marco, las calles son un hervidero de motos y bicicletas circulando en todas direcciones, así como de gente yendo y viniendo. Más de una vez en nuestro estadía en la ciudad nos detuvimos en un bar o en un café sólo para contemplar su alocado ritmo de vida, acelerado y sin embargo armónico. Street style back in the days History first mentions cotton-weaving in Nepal during the Asoka period in the second century AD. Due to the harsh winter weather in Nepal rugs, carpets, blankets and clothes were first described as being woven from yak, sheep and rabbit. There’s big business in the textile industry throughout the Kathmandu valley in Nepal today. Cotton is largely grown by farmers in Gorkha, Tanahu and the Dang districts of western Nepal. Imports of raw cotton bales are also brought in from India. “When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The past few days I’ve been binge-rewatching Avatar The Last Airbender, because almost everyone and their mom has been lately. I’m glad I’ve spent the time to rewatch it because I’ve caught a lot more watching it again now that I’m older and also using it as a good personal refresher. Like many people, especially as an extrovert, I’ve been pretty down with all this quarantine and social distancing but it’s also been a good time to reflect. I’ve always felt my personality to be very similar to Aang’s so it’s been really cool and motivational to see how he overcomes his many hardships, struggles and purpose while staying true to his character and beliefs, even if he is a fictional character. Anyways, here’s a throwback to when I cosplayed as Aang! 📚 Banned Books Week 2020 starts today! 📚 I clearly remember... I only had one day or so to create this image. And I work notoriously slow due to the amount of details I put in. I was like.., ok, let me come up with some solution. Because, a part of job description of an illustrator is problem-solving. The theme was about this one kid who’s realized the wrong this ‘story factory’ was making.... so, one guy standing out of everyone who’s obeying the rules. I drew him, and one guys head buried in a book. The rest is a careful Photoshop job. It worked! (Look at the big banner at ComicCon! ) I’ve never done something like this since. “Hua Mulan“; The heroine warrior legend. Titled “Ballad of Mulan”, Hua Mulan’s story was actually first told through a folk song in the 6th century! In Chinese “Huā” means “flower” and “Mùlán” means magnolia. Magnolias symbolise dignity and nobility. In ancient China, they were thought to be the perfect symbols of womanly beauty and gentleness. (how ironic!) Anyway, I still need to watch the new mulan live action remake but have recently found out that though the actors casted are all of Chinese descent (thankfully!!), the entire back bone of the film is (to no surprise) white. From the director, to the screen writer, cinematographer and even costume designer. Which has led to disparities in the costumes and architecture shown in the movie, in correlation to what is historically correct. Apparently the set and costume designers had to conduct grand tours to China and museums around Europe for inspiration ... though casting Chinese actors to play Chinese characters is a huge step in the right direction for Hollywood, I don’t understand why Chinese designers couldn’t be hired to work in what is their forte of costume and set design ? “I do worry that the Mulan that we may see, how ‘Mulan’ is she?” “Is she a white version, a Eurocentric, colonialistic version of what some people, who are in the fortunate place to have commissioned this project, see?” says British Asian actress Lucy Sheen.
