I can’t sleep ...I’ve been having insomnia for years, I tried everything... but nothing worked! People advised me with so many things to a point doctors would tell me to take some pills but I refused, I never liked taking medications. I used to smoke when I was younger for the hip of it but now I do it to calm me down at night so I can relax and go to sleep. It helps me as well for my anxiety... YEP... I have some anxiety attacks sometimes but way less than before. Cannabis has help me on my nervous and insomnia. But at the end we need to identify what causes our worries, our overly thoughts and our pain. Cannabis will help you but not solve your problems. Talking about it is triggering for those who have experienced it and those who have considered it, and so i urge us all to use our platforms carefully and tactfully when discussing this issue. Brendan died and he left me with the check, so to speak. Same thing with G. I have compassion for their struggles and i miss them so much but i am still angry to have been left (along with friends and family) with the emotional bill, one I’m still paying off. I think ill always be chipping away at it because love is real and forever, and both a blessing and curse. I hang onto my slivers of memories, wondering which parts are still real things that happened and which have been distorted and misremembered over time. We don’t have a video recorder in our heads, just a couple of smudgy journal pages and hastily drawn sketches. I lost a big part of Brendan all at once but i keep losing bits of him as time passes. I have a finite number of memories, a fixed point in time where our lives intersected until his ceased. There’s a YouTube video of him narrating a pool hang we all had and i listen to it because otherwise i wouldn’t remember what his voice sounded like. I have his letters and one well preserved T-shirt that still smells like him. But those things will fade or i may lose them. I may even forget to remember, although even a decade after his death that feels impossible. I didn’t know what my life was supposed to look like after he died, and i feel as though I’m only just now getting back on track. Who else misses live music? • • • It’s truly one of my favorite things! My first concert was The Grateful Dead when I was 15 at the Shoreline Amphitheater. I’ve heard many incredible, legendary artists over the years and have a little trophy box filled with ticket stubs. The music, the vibes, the laughter and the memories keep me craving all the concert experiences. • • • I live just a mile down the road from a beautiful amphitheater at Vina Robles Winery where I was fortunate enough to see @pepperlive crush it up on stage. Toward the end of that show, my friend, Kelly threw a 1977 hat on stage (I made our friends 1977 hats as we celebrated her husband’s 40th birthday) and Kaleo grabbed it and put it on his amp. A month later Kelly called and exclaimed, “he was wearing it in one of their recorded shows!” What a cool feeling to see a musician I respect and adore rocking something I hand made. • • • Fast forward through the years and I feel blessed to have met the band backstage in Avila Beach. I see why I’m so drawn to Pepper’s music. Their talent is undeniable but it’s their heart’s that are infectious. • • • Kaleo and his beautiful wife, Melanie also come up to Paso Robles when they offer an awesome yoga retreat. After, Kaleo performs live at the Wine Boss where the owner, Tommy pours delicious wines and has the whole crowd feeling the love! Good people coming together through great music is nothing shy of magic. • • • And now... I’m honored to have the opportunity to make hats for @pepperwineexperience and @wineboss_pasorobles. Thank you for allowing me to share my truth through hats. My heart is completely full as I create and connect with others. After seeing the diluted message that her international friends were posting online as part of the #womenempowerment hashtag, @imaann_patel attempted to explain the somber origins and meanings of the original challenge: Turkey is one of the top countries when it comes to femicides. Most often the murderers barely get a slap on a wrist or no charges at all… Our government is trying to abolish certain aspects of [the] Istanbul Convention which is a human rights treaty that protects women against domestic violence… Turkish people wake up every day to see a black and white photo of a woman who has been murdered. Its so easy to land in the trap to disguise ourselves as perfect, sentient beings, divine + aligned, clean + pristine, and nothing in between at all times. Putting on our masks, carrying on with our lives like its all fine + dandy. As if we’re completely invincible - as though nothing in the world has phased us. Nah, I got it. Im good But alas, you stumble across unknown charted territories (yet again), reaching a threshold of growth + expansion never before imagined. All of this feels completely foreign, and there is no choice but to discover how to navigate it on your own the best you can. At times, we feel completely breathless. Drained. Defeated is an understatement. Sometimes we experience a harsh plot twist in our hero’s journey - and we feel like it’s literally, “Game Over.” This phase can move past depression. It can be absolutely paralyzing to our entire system. Practically everything becomes meaningless and stale. Your psyche is cracked wide open. You are invited. This is an initiation if you choose it. Your higher-self craves to provide you with fulfilment by rewriting your story and identifying who you choose to be. This call to action is not for the faint of heart. It will be an arduous journey. And it is worth it. The Dark Night of the Soul When you are in the eye of the storm, it feels as though you are caught within an endless labyrinth. Perhaps it was the death of a loved one, and you haven’t yet put the pieces back together. Or perhaps there was a traumatic occurrence that rocked your world and you’re still wrapping your head around it. Whatever it is, you’ve exhausted your resources and none of your tools seem to be working. There is always hope. Within each us lies a deep, natural yearning to respect and connect with the world around us. In our darkest moments, we are able to see the true fragility of life. Thank you lord for bringing me to the place I am in. Facts: At one point in my life I made war with a lot of other individuals, to make myself feel better. And even at times I didn’t care. (I’m being very honest) I was so insecure with who I was, I was so blunt in my own emotions didn’t care what anyone said, I was young and not very clever then. I would gossip about anyone and everything just to feel good and boost my ego, I would help others, and expect something in return or bring it up in conversation, I would be in peoples business and give advice, knowing I had a closet full of skeletons myself. I never wanted to deal with. I felt misunderstood by people even family. Today I can post this with a heart of gratitude and peace. & not at war with others. I look back not to live in my past, yet to be so very thankful of the authenticity I am living in today as who i truly am. Who was that girl? a girl who didn’t know self love, a women who lost touch with her inner child, a women who only cared for herself in selfish ways. A person who was crying for help and healing but never seeking within. This is to encourage you, today if you are war with others your going to struggle to find peace. La fotógrafa chilena Tamara Merino (29), se dedica a la fotografía documental, y en su actividad se hace parte de una larga tradición de fotógrafos/as viajeros/as quienes recorrían el mundo retratando singularidades y “exotismos”, en algunos casos de la mano de la etnografía, recolectando escenas y paisajes para las llamadas revistas de viajes, que tuvieron una gran relevancia durante el siglo XIX y mediados del siglo XX. Puede verse en Merino una continuadora de esta tradición en el sentido de que fotografía sus viajes, o más bien, viaja para fotografiar, pero se distingue de la misma al poner su foco de interés más allá de la mirada curiosa del “centro occidental”: su ojo está puesto sobre problemáticas sociales de género y migración, entre otras, produciendo series que se organizan narrativamente. A fines de julio, recibió el Premio Inge Morath que otorgan cada año Magnum Foundation, Magnum Photos y el Inge Morath Estate a mujeres fotógrafas menores de 30 años, por su trabajo “Underland”. ⠀ Alejandra Villasmil, Directora y Fundadora de la revista de arte contemporáneo Artishock, realiza la entrevista, que aquí compartimos, señalando: Tamara Merino nos cuenta en esta entrevista cómo aborda los temas socio-políticos que traduce en imágenes desde su posición de storyteller, en un afán por despertar consciencia colectiva sobre nuestra identidad social, como seres humanos que compartimos la experiencia universal de relacionarnos, de existir en sociedad y en comunidades determinadas por las formas de subsistencia que elegimos, en un planeta afectado por nuestro accionar. ⠀ Esta entrevista forma parte de una serie que busca dar a conocer conversaciones, textos y reflexiones en torno a agentes relevantes de la fotografía. De carona com a Cao Laru - Episodio Europa Oriental (primeira parte) Muita gente pergunta de onde vêm as influências da Cao Laru. Ao longo desses 4 anos e 23 países, o que mais nos encanta é aprender e nos alimentar do que vivemos e ouvimos por aí. Cada vez mais a banda se aproxima das culturas da América Latina e dos ritmos brasileiros, mas quem conhece a gente desde o começo nota o legado da Europa do Leste em nossas composições. E não é à toa, pois, além da banda ter se formado em um mestrado focado em músicas do mundo e educação, nossa primeira grande turnê foi saindo de Rennes (França) e indo até a Romênia. No maior estilo mambembe, pegamos a estrada com nosso motorhome Peugeot G5 1990, munidos exclusivamente de instrumentos acústicos para priorizar as apresentações na rua. Acompanhades de Huriya, uma cachorra que viria a ser nome de música no disco Fronteiras, tivemos uma das maiores experiência de vida coletiva, e entramos em contato com culturas com as quais normalmente as bandas da Europa Ocidental não dialogam. Na Bosnia (fotos 3 e 4, cidade de Mostar) e na Servia, nos deparamos com bastante desigualdade social e com cidades ainda muito marcadas pela guerra. Em Budapeste tocamos em galerias de arte e cafés, mas também tocamos em uma das pontes que liga as duas partes da cidade (foto 5). Também tiramos uns dias de folga e aproveitamos os banhos termais. Chegar na Romênia foi reencontrar, depois de muito tempo, uma língua latina, e um país de natureza exuberante. Por lá, além de tocar nas ruas, fizemos um show em um lindo espaço (foto 6 é o cartaz desse show), e aproveitamos para pousar nosso camping car no meio do nada (fotos 1 e 2). Nesse lindo nada, cozinhamos com lenha e caminhamos bastante para colocar as idéias e os sonhos em dia. Estamos pensando seriamente em um dia voltar para esses lados do oriente, dessa ainda mais preparades pros encontros, trocas e ensinamentos que tanto nos fazem pulsar.
