What horrific impacts are we leaving- cultural, social, environmental... where’s our humanity? I get really upset, and then something like this comes in. It’s going to be ok. You’ve impacted 1 person and hopefully made a positive change for them. The future isn’t set. I think the more positive interactions we have the more likely a positive future becomes for all of us. I love teaching, I especially love teaching kids because there’s so much future in store for them. As I’m heading into my second year of my doctoral program, I looked over this email from my professor who I am truly grateful and it gave me everything I needed. This past summer semester I truly thought was going to take me out 😭 It came a week after ending the Spring semester and it came in with a vengeance 😩 Nonetheless, despite the world falling apart, I had to push through. & she was going to make sure she challenged us and pushed us no matter what. • This final was 6 hours straight. We had tons of clinical data to look over and we had to diagnose a person and write a report. All in 6 hours. This NEVER happens in real life so it pushed what I thought were my boundaries for sure. I literally thought I was going to have to do it over because there was NO WAY I could pull this off. • A rating of Exemplary is the highest bracket to fall within and that’s what I obtained. In 6 hours, under pressure, I did what I do best. I wasn’t perfect though. I didn’t explain something like I should have. I couldn’t thoroughly finish my summary. I was only in my first year of my doctoral program. I only had 6 hours to do what I thought was the unthinkable. But I DID IT! • I say all this to say you might mess up, you might miss the mark at times, you will not be perfect, but still DO IT and be the best at it. You still learn from your mishaps while growing and ensuring that it won’t happen again. & even when you mess up, that doesn’t mean you have failed. Thank you Business Insider! Graduating from law school with over $200,000 of student loans, I was honestly terrified. The gravity of it didn’t hit me until after I graduated. ▪️ Once I realized it was “real”, I knew I wanted to pay off the student loans as quickly as possible. I set an action plan to pay them off in 2 years, and had a “check-in” with myself every 2 weeks for those 2 years to make sure I was on track and make adjustments where needed. ▪️ Even though I was fortunate enough to have this job as a corporate lawyer right after graduation, I made sure to never allow that to get to my head to “justify” more expensive purchases or inflate my lifestyle. ▪️ Instead, I just continued to live frugally (the same way I had done out of necessity as a broke law student) and was probably the only one in the entire fancy law firm who was wearing shoes from Walmart to work, haha. ▪️ If you’re reading this and have student loans but don’t have a set date when you know you’re going to pay off your student loans, that means you’re letting your student loans run you (and not the other way around).
