Dear 15 years old self, I really wish wed meet so that I could tell you all those bitter truths, you need to know badly. Right now, youre just a crazy teenager butterfly. Completely unaware of every dos and donts. You think you could be a doctor just having good marks in biology, little did you know how lifes gonna be simple like quantum physics. There wont be any shortage in your upbringing. All your wishes get fulfilled even before you ask for them. Sooner or later youll meet angels and demons of your fairy tale. Lifes gonna be upside-down one moment and the very next glittering all over again. You mess up so bad and leave so many scars on me that I lost counting. Youre a jerk, a complete jerk. Yet, dont go too harsh on yourself. Sometimes you need to do terrible mistakes to make things right. And if I get to live my life all over again, Id want you to be the same. 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐲, 𝐡𝐨𝐰; often, the best relationships are built on chance encounters. often, the best nights out come when you didn’t really the people, you didn’t really know the DJ and you had zero expectations. often your best creative work happens in times when you you just wanted to call it a day, but decided to show up anyway. often the best workouts happen when your mind is giving you 100 reasons why you should just leave it for today. This all hit me hard the last week or so. Today, I was thinking of so many reasons not to go and run, but decided to go and just do it, which ended up being the best run I can remember. Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling up to making music whatsoever, but dragged myself to the studio and ended up being the happiest I’ve been in a long time with a track made that afternoon. A few months ago, a friend and I weren’t planning on going out, but decided to go, and ended up having an amazing night with two French guys who were visiting from Berlin and Paris, who I expect will be close friends in years to come. What I’m trying to say with all this, and what I have realised over the last few months, is that: - the best things come when you least expect them, you cannot force great work, performance or relationships - often, just ‘showing up’ can light up your creativity, mood, and performance - so even if you’re not “feeling it” sometimes you have to just give it a go! Whatever it may be. This post isn’t meant to be a pat myself on the back type thing. If anything, I want to use this as a reminder for myself, and others that on days where everything isn’t feeling so great, sometimes you just have to ‘show up’ 😊 - @larmoursound on Instagram

In her essay “The Civil Contract of Photography,” Ariella Azoulay explores the three actors present in photography: the photographer, the photographed subject, and the spectator. At any instance, we are a part of this triangular relationship, and thus agree to the unspoken contract of photography. In this reading group, participants will explore the role photography plays setting up these three actors and with whom the power lies. Readings will not only explore how photography has forced relationships between people and spaces but also how it’s informed (and transformed) technology like facial recognition.
