For the past 42 years, Mik Critchlow has photographed the town, people and surrounding areas of Ashington, the town in which he was born, educated and still lives. Ashington is a small coastal town north of Newcastle Upon Tyne and, before the nationalisation of the coal mining industry in the 1940s, was the home and headquarters of the Ashington Coal Company which paternally controlled the work, housing, leisure, education and social behaviour of its workforce. The town as a community owes its very existence to coal mining and although the extraction of coal was the major dominant factor in their lives, miners and their families shared many interests – there was always a strong tradition of community life. Coal is in the family blood, it has been a major part of our family life for at least four generations but Mik escaped, leaving school in 1970 aged 15 to work in the merchant navy. After several years he returned home, picked up a camera and began to photograph the people and street life of Ashington. He is still taking photographs. - @bluecoatpress on Instagram

German troops advancing trough the dense forests of Russia. The leading vehicle is an Sd. Kfz 7 with a quad flak gun. The next vehicle is a Nashorn, behind it looks like a captured T26 and last a KV1. Unique to see a T26 so late in the war as this pic was most likely taken around 1943/44. But it could also be Finnish vehicles as they used lots of captered Soviet materials. #Armenia : Fighting between Azerbaijan and Armenia entered a fourth day on Wednesday in the biggest eruption of the decades-old conflict since a 1994 ceasefire. Armenia said three civilians had been killed in Martakert, a town located in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, as a result of an Azeri attack, local news agency Armenpress reported.
