As we protest a racist legal system, it is important to accept that our liberal heroes maintained it. RBG in particular dismissed BLM protests as disrespectful and arrogant. Liberal politicians often seek to fortify killer institutions, while Republicans dismantle the few institutions of life left. For a populace consumed with blind anti-establishment rage, the choice is often clear. Democracy is dependent on the health of a single person. Every single black person assassinated by state sanctioned nazis. Every poor person who has died because healthcare is not enshrined as a right, because food and shelter is not enshrined as a right. Now it will take all of us, not to elect a great man, or nominate a great woman, but all of us to see the great power we share as workers. To strategize for and beyond elections. 10 years ago, today: Banned in #NYC. Literally. This print i was commissioned to create for #AliceInChains, #deftones, and #Mastodon 10 years ago, was pulled from the merch booths by #MadisonSquareGarden officials, citing indecency. Dozens of fans who showed up early to grab the prints (which had been previewed on the bands social media) were not allowed to purchase a print. I got a bunch of emails that night, telling me the story. Only 2 or 3 copies (signed by band members) were sold, before the cops at #MSG pulled the poster plug. The piece is a large screenprint, printed with gallery inks, including some metallics. Mind altering memories came to me tonight, that seem like an entirely different life time ago. Being a young pro athlete drinking myself to death & then one bad day, a total nightmare with one life altering accident. Lights out... game over! For two years, living with two broken ankles in a wheel chair, broken ribs, & a broken face, getting the shit beat out of me by my so called boyfriend at the time. Drunk, drugged and abused in all ways. Unreal this was my life not so long ago. It’s amazing what we are capable of if we are willing to fly like a pheonix out of hell, flying with a purpose we know not, but with only one drop of hope that is the last star in our sky. With restless wind beneath my wings, I flew from the ashes & soared above my own self pity to discover a totallly foreign, undicovered life worth living. I never thought in a million years, broken, beaten, & inprisoned literally & in my own desperate hopeless mind... this life of heaven on Earth could be possible for a street rat like me. I was nothing to no one. And now, this beautiful life I’ve worked so hard for, after knowing a hell I don’t wish on anyone, doing the things I love surrounded by my loves, Im alive! This would never ever be possible for me. I am a victim of domestic, sexual, & emotional violence, now living a life of love with no boundaries, a felon jail bird turned wild free respected spirit, a former drug addict turned health junkie & global fitness expert, a homeless unemployable loady, turned self made serial entrepreneur & global entertainer, anorexic gym rat turned organic certified yogi, punk snowboarder turned blissed surfer, bar fighter turned love warrior. We are all changeable at the levels of our willingness to get uncomfortable within ourselves. Thank you for my undeniable vibrant life God, & all my supportive Earth angels. I am grateful everyday. Armed with determination to become a master musician and multi-instrumentalist, AMI was enrolled in piano lessons and admitted into the state’s only Performing Arts school at age 10. Her most transformative years as a musician happened while she studied at Emerson Visual and Performing Arts School in Gary, IN under Judith Neville. Intensely competitive, AMI placed first or second place in all district and state music competitions from 6th-12th grade. Post high school she pursued her undergraduate degree in piano performance at Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. In college, she was able to completely unleash her passion for music. She became a visibly energetic performer and became comfortable displaying outward vulnerability for her craft. Her newest collaboration with @clubcribent is out now!
