I didn’t learn to swim until I was ten years old & then it just clicked. I swam competitively for Northampton - early morning training...swimming galas...cockroaches..the lot. My teens were brilliant as a result. Friends.Team spirit. Competition. I loved every second. I’ve since dipped my toe into open water swimming which has been a whole new adventure but I will ALWAYS love the lure of the swimming pool. Nothing beats the turquoise of the water when the sun shines through it and as for the smell of chlorine.. it’s my signature scent. I am proud of this article featured in Unique Muskoka magazine. I try to present yoga as a focus on mental health, as a practice to quiet the mind, and as being an inclusive activity with the intention of giving it your best effort - versus on the results of a “good body”, or image focused reason. I love creating a space of non judgement and helping people reach their internal potential. To start a new day with strength and happiness. . I love how well this article encompasses the care I take in the private dockside classes I teach. Though I have to admit, I was surprised at the section where one line of a 30 minute interview was typed up as, “Yogis don’t necessarily have the fittest looking bodies.” Of course we can, and we do! But I think what I like best about yoga is the connection to our bodies+breath, the prevention of disease, and on building confidence with a tall posture. From the yoga festivals I’ve helped run, to overseas retreat centres I work at, to local classes in Muskoka and Toronto, I love seeing the mix of people. . The internal beauty within us. When Erin, the lovely editor at @asac.albertas Birth Issues Magazine, put out a call for submissions for their Birth during a Pandemic special issue, I thought it might be a good moment to share my experience. 🌈 TW: infertility, pregnancy loss. For the first time, I wrote about my journey to motherhood, from a difficult diagnosis to my first miracle baby (Felix!), a traumatic loss, my experience with anxiety and panic attacks following this sequence of events, then finally having our rainbow baby (Beatrix!) arrive during the earliest days of the pandemic. 💗 I shared our story as a way of documenting my experience during this unique and challenging moment in time, but more so as a way of trying to help others feel less isolated in their struggles on the road to parenthood. None of this was easy to write about, let alone to go through. It feels incredibly vulnerable to do so but feeling alone when youre in the midst of a fertility struggle or grieving process is far worse. When I was younger I didn’t enjoy exercise much at all - the PE knickers (thank GOD kids don’t have those now) standing with blue legs on a netball court and cross country put me off. My first Olympic memory was as a 7 year old, being woken by Mum at 3am to watch the Opening Ceremony of the ‘72 Munich Games on the small B&W TV. I was mesmerised by it all, especially with Shane Gould’s performance in the pool. So every 4 years to Montreal ‘76 & Moscow ‘80, I’d be glued to the TV in awe at these athletes. My dream to photograph an Olympic Games was born in ‘84 with the magic of the LA Games, again especially the swimming. I’d just finished Year 12 and collected all the SMH Olympic Extras (that I still have today) examining every image closely, with a goal to one day get my own Olympics Page 1 photo, and if possible, from the pool covering the Swimming events that I loved. 16 years later, after 7 years on staff for Fairfax I was picked to cover Swimming and Track & Field for the Sydney Games from a team of 65 photographers. I was one step closer. On Day 3 of the Games, before heading back out to the pool, my dream from LA ‘84 was finally realised. Entering the Media Village for breakfast at 6.30am to see a stack of Heralds with my photo of Ian Thorpe on Page 1. It changed my life because I learned so much about an amazing group of people who continue to inspire me and obviously countless others, especially young kids. I’m still kind of a big kid. The conversations I had as part of researching this article, and in some ways on certain days continue to have, gave me what I still consider to be invaluable perspective on society, religion, family, community and what leadership really looks like, where it really comes from and how it’s actually developed. Feeling grateful for this Oct 2010 assignment from @jjiloty as it helped facilitate my existence and felt so good spiritually that I have spent ten years since hunting the joys of this unique and cosmic “sport”—honestly, calling it the Creator’s Game or the Medicine Game feels so much more powerful or meaningful and appropriate. When you meet people who live with such purpose and dignity that it still echoes or resonates years later in the form of wanting to be a better person, you know someone or something has made a special impact on your life. Die zur Abgrenzung herangezogenen Merkmale wie Hautfarbe, Körpergröße oder Sprache – teilweise auch kulturelle Merkmale wie Kleidung oder Bräuche – werden als grundsätzlicher und bestimmender Faktor menschlicher Fähigkeiten und Eigenschaften gedeutet und nach Wertigkeit eingeteilt. Dabei betrachten Rassisten alle Menschen, die ihren eigenen Merkmalen möglichst ähnlich sind, grundsätzlich als höherwertig, während alle anderen (oftmals abgestuft) als geringerwertig diskriminiert werden. Anwesenheitsdokumentation ab 10 Personen. ▶️ Die Pflicht, eine Mund-Nasen-Bedeckung zu tragen, gilt künftig auch in Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäuden.
