On 29/11/19, I Graduated, it was one of the most challenging obstacles I’ve had to deal with so far. I faced soo much adversity during this time that it took me 5 years to complete. God has really helped me along including the people I had around me and my family. I started off uni following wrong advise. Doing an unnecessary FD degree I didn’t actually need to enrol for first year. All I needed to do was talk to a module leader. Lesson learned; you don’t get unless you ask, you don’t lose from asking but have everything to gain. The following year, I struggled in a part time job, trying to follow a dream career, not focusing on my work leading to me failing my modules having to resit them part time with no SFE. I gained my first grey hair! 😩😭👴🏾 Lesson learned; Manage money, make it stretch and discipline. The uni gave me two weeks to complete 4 essays all coming up to 3k words each, which we all know isn’t easy. My work ended up heavily plagiarised, I had a meeting about it and almost got kicked out. Another lesson learned; Organise yourself. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Final year really tested my resilience towards uni, I was hospitalised on New Year’s Day. Don’t wanna get into it too much but I missed up to 3 weeks of uni and missed all my deadlines, resulting to doing them during summer. After my stay in hospital, I was restricted to do certain things. I had a drip bag attached to me which was hidden under my jeans. By this time, I really wanted to quit and just be like this is all long. I can’t be asked to complete set back after set back, why can’t it just be finshed already? So I prayed. I really really prayed to God to get me through and I had the support from friends and family, helping me to keep going and persevere to complete it all. Lesson Learned; Don’t quit, keep pushing, ALWAYS have faith in God and never forget, don’t be afraid to speak to someone about any issues you have in life. That person may be the person to help push, motivate and inspire you - steering you back towards Gods plans. Feels good to say - I DID IT!! 🎉🎓 Few people wanted me to fail or didn’t believe in my capability. But to God be the Glory and now - @ibraogboin on Instagram

Have you ever thought about leaving the dietetics profession? 🤔⁣ ⁣ 🧏🏻‍♂️ I often hear other RDs saying that they’re thinking of changing professions mainly for one reason and it’s not because they aren’t passionate about nutrition anymore ⁣ ⁣ 👉🏻 I’d like to share why I “left” dietetics so hopefully it’ll help those who have been contemplating with the idea ⁣ ⁣ 🤓 Before I got into dietetics & nutrition I had already knew that it was going to be a career for me to start in, but not end at.⁣ ⁣ 💸 One major factor was because when I looked at the average salary of a typical dietitian it was way below what I would be satisfied with...⁣ ⁣ 💪🏼 Also, another big reason is that I had a love for human anatomy & exercise that grew when I was a personal trainer in undergrad ⁣ ⁣ 🧠 So in the process of getting my RD I had already paved a path in my head that it was going to be a stepping stone into another career. ⁣ ⁣ 😊 Long story short that is why I have my RD and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I’m truly passionate about both professions ⁣ ⁣ 🤯 Looking back now, I would’ve never had to change careers if the whole intent was all about the pay ⁣ ⁣ 😬 Knowing what I know now there are many ways for you to earn more as a RD if you aren’t planning to be average & typical.⁣ ⁣ 💨 Back then I was making a decision based off BLS median annual salary (average & typical), but luckily for me I had a passion in a whole other profession too.⁣ ⁣ 🍎 So if you’ve been thinking about changing professions because of the pay, even though you love nutrition, just know that you may not have to...⁣ ⁣ ✅ You can make what you want if you master non-traditional skills. - @registereddietitianapproved on Instagram

MY MOTHER Ayako Tanaka, was hospitalised in Izumo, Shimane-ken, Japan on Tuesday the 18th of August after suffering with shortness of breath, chest pains and having been unable to physically move. Her family were unaware of her situation and were only informed on Friday the 21st of August. After having a multitude of tests, plus a biopsy, the doctors discovered that she has a very rare form of thymic cancer which has spread to multiple organs. Very little is known regarding this specific type of cancer but it is extremely aggressive. Ayako is in a critical condition and the doctors have also stated that she doesn’t have a very long time to live, so all they can do is manage her pain. Having been separated from us (her family) for over 6 months, as Ayako initially went to Japan to care for her mother who is sick, it is imperative that we (her daughters) can be by her side supporting her. Due to the current pandemic we need special permission from the Japanese government and visas to enter Japan. Even once we are allowed to fly to Japan we will be faced with having to quarantine for 14 days. With that being said, the hospital in which Ayako is staying are not allowing any visitors. The only option is to move Ayako to a privately rented apartment along with all the medical equipment and medical staff she requires so we can be with her physically. Unfortunately, due to Ayako having to stay in Japan for such an extended period of time, she doesnt have travel or medical insurance. However, the ultimate goal is to hire a medical plane, which costs around £85,000, to take her back to the UK so she can spend her final days at home with family and friends. As you can imagine, this is a matter of great urgency and the amount of funds that are needed for hospital bills & transport is unknown at this time but anything will be greatly appreciated. First generation college graduate! I have worked extremely hard throughout life to set a new standard for future generations of my family. As I turn in my last undergraduate assignment and I reflect over my college years, I just want to say Thank you Grambling State University for the unforgettable opportunities, long lasting connections, and last but not least strengthening me💪🏾 All that I am I owe to God, myself, and my support system. I pray that God continues to mold & polish THE woman I aspire to become. Thank you to my family and friends for your constant encouragement and support. You guys have done an outstanding job at keeping me steadfast on this journey. My mom and dad especially, I can’t thank you all enough for EXCEEDING your parental responsibilities. Those two never questioned anything that I wanted or needed throughout high school & my higher education; therefore, I can’t wait to give back🤞🏾I’ll never forget the times I’d begin to complain, their response would always be “it will all pay off.” There were plenty of days and times where I would become frustrated, burned out etc. However, it was during those moments that I reminded myself “nothing of greatness will ever come easy.” This is major milestone to reach, and I’m ecstatic, but somewhat saddened as the days wind down because NO things did not go as planned. I did not get to cross the stage on the scheduled date, due to this unexpected pandemic😞 but I WILL NOT continue to be discouraged. I will still rejoice and be glad because I trust God 100%. I know that he does everything for a reason, and my hard work has not gone unnoticed. I’m still receiving what I worked hard for, and I know God is not finished with me yet. What I will continue to emphasize during this season of uncertainty is (Proverbs 3:5-6 ) because When all else fails in life, we have to trust God’s plan...not our own. Prime example of how you can have EVERYTHING planned out for your life but honey, it is only God’s plan that will prevail. Through it all I shall continue walk in my divine purpose, and manifest GREATNESS! I never wanted my account to be political but unfortunately healthcare is a political issue as much as it is a medical one. Everything from wearing a mask to trusting Dr. Fauci has morphed from taking actions to keep our fellow Americans safe and healthy into a divisive political debate . I don’t know how to fix the American healthcare system or balance coronavirus safety measures with reviving the economy. Thankfully that isn’t my job. Healthcare is a multifaceted, complex, and intertwined economic, political, and social issue. But the overarching goals of equal and affordable access to high quality healthcare and equity under the law shouldn’t be groundbreaking beliefs. They should be the status quo . And I don’t think it’s really that hard to condemn white supremacists or say Neo-Nazis aren’t ‘fine people’.
