THIS MOMENT 😮. Tyson shot this with a wide angle lense- meaning we were actually VERY close to each other in this picture. I had no peripheral vision through my mask- so when the sea lion suddenly came between us -I thought he would run me over— a dark grey mass filling my field of vision. Черепахи на Лефкаде!🐢 Наконец я с гордостью и радостью могу это сообщить! Год назад чтобы увидеть черепах я специально поехала на Кефалонию. И увидела. На Кефалонии на черепах можно смотреть каждое утро. Затем у меня появилась новая идея фикс - увидеть своими глазами рождение черепах! Не успела я загадать свое желание, как обнаружила целых три кладки черепашьих яиц... на Лефкаде! И это удивительно потому что не знаю когда в последний раз ступала нога ч̶е̶л̶о̶в̶е̶к̶а̶ черепахи на этот остров. На море мы не ходили уже около двух недель. Вчера случайно оказались на набережной в Агиос Яннис. Я лежу себе спокойно на шезлонге, любуюсь закатом на море, как вдруг вижу человек роет тропинку от черепашьего гнезда прямиком к морю. Думаю ааа, это он заранее наверное, черепашкам дорогу готовит и продолжаю наслаждаться видом, а одним глазом всё таки посматриваю в его сторону. Вдруг что-то меня насторожило в его поведении и я решила оторвать пятую точку от лежака и пойти поинтересоваться. Моей радости не было предела когда я увидела двух ползущих к морю черепашек! Я уже свыклась с мыслью, что я не смогу караулить черепашьи кладки день и ночь. А на ограждениях не было даже номеров телефонов волонтёров. Well hello there! . . . Despite so much dying coral, in the water and all around the resort, we spent a lot of time snorkeling and enjoying the marine life around us. There were so many colorful fish, a few small sharks, stingrays, dolphins and our favorite the beautiful turtles. Meet Zulu, a juvenile green sea turtle patient that was found floating in Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. The turtle has trauma to its cranial carapace from an unintentional boat strike that will be treated topically with betadine, honey, and therapeutic laser. Radiographs also revealed a large amount of gas in the turtle’s intestines. I always wanted to make a picture like this. A few months ago I finally had the time en peace to fully focus on this shot. Most of the times the European lobster is very shy and a bit scary, which in the end results in the lobster to fully pull back in its hole in the reef. Not this time. This beautiful lobster got used to me after a while. I waited a lot that dive to ensure it would show itself enough to get the light of the strobe to hit his head. I already prepared by having a base image to make a double exposure shot to give the final image just a bit extra to my tast. These starfish, aptly named for their chocolate chip-looking spines, are common starfish in the East Pacific region. They are also common aquarium pets due to their strange appearance. We are happy to report that grey seal Pippi Longstocking is healing well from the surgeries she underwent last month! While removing her sutures during a sedated procedure last week, our Animal Rescue team measured and weighed Pippi, who has been in our care since she was around 1 month old. They found that she has gained 22kg and grown 21cm since being admitted to the Animal Care and Rescue Center in February! Staff and volunteers have begun reintroducing soft tactile enrichment items to Pippi as her status improves—buoys, dog toys and light shower spray are among her favorites. She also enjoys snacking on ice, which keeps her hydrated and helps to process her cocktail of prescribed medications. She is currently receiving an anti-inflammatory medication and two types of antibiotics; we are planning to phase her off of them in the coming weeks. - @nationalaquarium on Instagram

We were just studying marine invertebrates and crustaceans yesterday and look at what we discovered at the beach today (the exoskeleton of a lobster). . I just started a new audio book, “Call of the Wild and Free” where the author explains most homeschool families aren’t trying to replicate the conventional classroom setting (it’s true; I’m not), but are making the world our classroom. And today the boys (and I) got to process and live out what we’re learning about marine life in nature and through free play. I mean look at the colors on this creature and those antennas. Shrimps are funny little creatures. Fortunately we have them in abundance in the salty waters of the Eastern Scheldt and Lake Grevelingen in the Netherlands. This little parasite might not seem like a big deal. Its kind of cute at first. But it surprised scientists when they found it where it wasnt supposed to be. Orthione griffenis, a cough drop-sized crustacean native to Asia and Russia, has decimated mud shrimp populations in California and Washington over the past 30 years, causing the collapse of delicate mudflat ecosystems anchored by the shrimp. Researchers identified the intruder during a 2017 marine bioblitz organized by @hakaiinstitute and Smithsonian MarineGEO. These surveys can act as early warning systems for invasive species, said Gustav Paulay. “If you catch them early enough, you have a chance to do something about it.” Most scientists believed the parasites’ expansion was exclusively mediated by human transport – O. griffenis is thought to have first arrived in North America by traveling in ships’ ballast water. TIPS for UNDERWATER photos: ➳ We prefer to film and take photos underwater around noon (when the sun is overhead) and when it’s sunny. This way you will get the most light and beautiful colors 🎨 ➳ We set our GoPro on (the lowest) ISO 100 and we take pictures in RAW, so the photos contain all the details and we can edit them in the highest quality possible. ➳ To take “over/under” pictures (showing what’s under the water as well as above) we use DOME port - a dome-shaped cover for GoPro. ➳ Get as close as possible to the subject you are shooting - @gopro has wide field of view (everything looks smaller on the camera). Mergulhamos nas principais ilhas do Caribe do leste (Ilhas Virgens, St. Marteen, Saba, St.Kitts, Nevis, Dominica, Martinica, Guadaloupe, Grenada), do sul (Los Roques, Bonaire, Curaçao e Aruba) e também no Atlântico (Turks e Caicos, Bahamas, Florida) 🐢 As experiências - O contato constante com os animais marinhos é marcante, afinal, são nossos vizinhos do andar debaixo! In Indonesia, you can see as many as 60 poisonous sea snakes underwater. Most sea snakes found in warm coastal waters are highly venomous. The most common snake observed by scuba divers is black and white with the common name of the banded sea snake. It can often be seen swimming over and between the reefs sticking its head in every hole looking for prey. Sea snakes need to breath and can therefore also be observed while free swimming up to the surface for air. Scuba divers often hear during their open water courses that the snakes are not dangerous for humans as their mouth is too small to bite us. Under normal circumstances a sea snake would never attack a scuba diver, snorkeler or swimmer. Also the fangs of most species are not long enough to reach through wetsuits. As always, treat sea life with respect. Don’t put your hand inside holes in the reef, don’t molest the animals, stay away from mating snakes and don’t block the way of a snake on its way to the surface to breath and you will be fine. - @shaktirajaampat on Instagram
