Have you ever met a cat who REALLY lives up to her name? This is 👑Princesa👑. She meows for her servants (her caretakers) to pick her up and place her daintily in her litter box. She generously allows her servants to sleep in her human-sized bed with her, maybe because when her eyes were bothering her, they brought her in to our veterinary clinic. Fortunately, we fell in her good graces when we provided treatment for her eyes and a bag of food (which she inspected carefully and determined to be acceptable). Princesas story is actually one of the more mundane kinds of cases we get (dont tell her we said that!). She came in with eye secretion, and we applied our holistic approach to make our contact with her and her family about more than just fixing the immediate issue. Instead, we talked with them about what she was eating, their living situation, if they planned to have her sterilized, and the importance of vaccinating her. We established a relationship and helped Princesas family see that going to the vet is for more than solving problems - its part of Princesas basic needs to keep her strong and *royally* satisfied. Her family has already brought her in 3 times, and now a relationship has been formed. We are part of Princesas village, and we hope to continue to serve her through her long, happy life. This one example, although it may seem simple, is a step we take almost daily with animals and their caretakers. Its part of establishing the foundation of cultural change regarding how animals are cared for in Chile and the responsibility people feel for the animals around them.
