It’s sad to see a animal suffer from injury’s and not be able to live a capable life. This doe can not put weight on her front right leg and I see her fall down a lot while she walks. I hunt for my way of life, for a clean and humane food source and for conservation. I’m gonna spend the next few days targeting this doe and try to put her out of her misery before she either starves in winter, or gets taken by the local coyote packs that have become very large packs. I’m sure I will get lots of hate for this post and some people that will understand but not in any case do I like to kill animals, but I only see one option and I feel it’s my duty to help the deer from it’s suffering. I will only have 1 day to hunt this deer before I’m gone for awhile but if not I will do my best to finish it when I come back to Michigan. Great first night out of bear season with @rexkwolf and @bigsky_ty. Spotted this guy right away after a snow blizzard stopped and the sun poked through the clouds. A very underestimated hike... several drainages, a few doubts, and about four hours later, we finally found an opening in the trees to set up for a shot. One whiffed opportunity on my part, with a follow up shot that found its mark and I notched my 2020 tag with my best bear to date. A couple of weeks ago, I set up to post a series of photos about extreme political protest. I felt urged to do so in light of the hunger strikes that had taken hold of Ohio state prisons, California ICE detentions, and quarantined cruise liners. I started with a video of the artist Tania Bruguera performing “Self Sabotage” a performance involving lecture and a game of russian roulette. The video of the artist puttting a gun to her head triggered some and I took the post down to question my own sensitivity and the work’s appropriateness for this time. Now, I am returning to what I intended to post originally in light of the fires burning in Minnesota right now — Pictured are Arnav Gupta, who was seen in flames walking in front of the white house last year, wearing a shirt with bold USA letters. He was sprayed with chemical retardant and taken to the hospital by police, where he died from his wounds. And Thích Quảng Đức, a buddhist monk who in June 1963, self immolated in a busy city intersection of Saigon to protest religious persecution of Buddhists by the Catholic government rulership Of Vietnam at the time. This is the famous photograph, taken by Malcolm Browne, still recognized to this day. — It would be unjust and insensitive to call acts like these “performance art.” A radical withholding of ones own life, the ultimate strike, will always be tragic and will always be triggering. If you haven’t stepped outside of your comfort zone, you may be missing out on some great opportunities in your life. This event changed my life and taught me what being mentally tough is all about, The Bataan Death March. 1. I only did it back in 2018 because I was in the field and some guys mentioned rucking this event in the heavy division (minimum 35 pounds) and I was like, “sure why not” with no train up for it whatsoever; terrible idea to not train at all for a marathon. 🤦‍♂️ 😂 2. We begin the ruck and as soon as the event starts these guys start casually walking and I let them know that at this pace and on this extremely difficult course with with all the sand and rucking up mountains/hills, we’re never gonna make it in under 12 hours for 26.2 miles so I dapped them up and started running/walking which is what we originally planned. 😂 3. I was in the top 26th out of 633 competitors and everything was smooth sailing for the 1st 19 miles and outta no where I straight up hit a wall going up hill. This is where I learned about being mentally tough because I had never been in a position like this before in my life. So many negative thoughts came in my head for the last 6 plus miles because now my ruck and boots just felt flat out heavy and were wearing me down. My physical abilities had always carried me along my fitness journey during everything I’ve done but not there at that moment. I ended up finishing 70th out of 633 competitors (only 521 finished) and my body was literally tore up for a week but I didn’t care because this event started a new chapter in my life, endurance training in combination with strength training. In SoCal you never know what you may see under a kelp paddy. You wanna be rigged for the possibility of seeing large fish here because we have landed 200+lb tuna off paddies in past. You can shoot a yellow with a tuna gun, but would you pull the trigger on a big fish at distance with a two banded tooth pick slinger? You could always roll the dice and hope it penetrated deep enough, flopper doesn’t break, mono doesn’t snap, etc, but why not increase your odds? Kinetic diver @thewatermenslens met in the middle and decided to checkout the very last paddy of the day with his K60/reel setup @aussiereelsusa . After a long day of battling wind and seeing rats, he decided what the hell, 4 bands....solid reel....dyneema shooting line....yellows all day. After seeing a school of yellows bolt under the paddy and a mako go by, he noticed movement below in 80ft vis then found himself quickly vortexed by easily a hundred 80-100lb tuna. Recognized the size....looked at the gun....here we go...full send....K60 sent the shaft through the gill plates and the rodeo began. Good thing he had a solid crew there to help him wrangle this beast and keep the lines clear. One of the best fish I have seen in SoCal taken in the reel. Congrats @thewatermenslens and crew! This weeks black bear death on I-65 demonstrates need for wildlife corridors and safe crossing designs. ⠀ ⠀ A black bear was killed by a motor vehicle Tuesday morning crossing I-65 south of Louisville. Black bear are rare in central Kentucky. This accident demonstrates the need to establish wildlife corridors with protected natural land to allow bear, bobcat and other animals to move safely about in their search for food, shelter, and mates. ⠀ ⠀ Highways and other congested roads designed and built with culverts, underpasses, and wildlife overpasses keep transportation infrastructure from being death traps for mammals, reptiles and other creatures. Over 6,000 motor vehicle collisions with animals reported in Kentucky in 2018/2019, resulted in 6 people killed and 24 seriously injured. Designing roadways and highways to accommodate wildlife movement will save money and lives. ⠀ ⠀ Bernheim is proud of our efforts to establish protected wildlife corridors.
