Full credit to him for allowing us kids to benefit from the results of his crazy eBay habit at the time, buying original copies of rare vinyl, in this case from Ghana 🇬🇭 (swipe to the end for the OG cover if you want to find one) Since then I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve heard and played and djed this song over the years... Asking @shabakahutchings to do an arrangement of this for the show a few weeks back seemed like the perfect moment to cover the song... and with the crew he had assembled. Swipe to see it come together in a matter of minutes with @theon_cross on Tuba, @cassiekinoshi on Alto, and watch how @femiondrums just walks straight to the kit and drops straight in the perfect pocket, not to mention the beautiful solo by @tettehvibes on guitar. What is your current situation? My current situation is pretty much in conjunction with the overall mandate of stay at home. I go out for a bike ride each day for exercise and once a week for food. What are you doing each day? Each day I exercise, pray, practice my craft, compose, and read. What have you been cooking? I am a vegetarian so I eat mostly live foods including salads, veggies, juicing, tofu, brown and black rice, grains, nuts, oats, etc.... Check out any new music? I subscribe to Jazz Week and I enjoy listening to many of the new releases. Currently Joey Alexanders new CD Warna is #1 on the charts...I have also been listening to music from West Africa Fang from Gabon and music from pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs, who recently passed away. Onaje was featured on some of my recordings. We also lost so many great musicians recently to the corona virus and I have been listening to Manu Dibango(Cameroon) and Tony Allen(Nigeria) What have you been watching? I watch mostly National Geographic or Science Channels....I try to stay away from news as its so depressing. What have you been reading? Hola gente🤟🏻! Como están? Déjenme les doy un poco de contexto acerca de esta publicación. La canción “Jubel” de Klingande, es una canción muy completa en sax, esta requiere mas aliento del normalmente exigido, requiere de rapidez en las pisadas del sax, requiere de una afinación muy cañona y exige también un rango de notas “sobreagudas” en el instrumento, las cuales déjenme les digo mis hermanos que esta en chino tocarlas por la complejidad de la embocadura que requieren. Fue hace aproximadamente 3 meses que aprendi totalmente por mi cuenta a tocar este tipo de notas después de 14 años de practica, y con ellas como pueden ver y escuchar, pude tocar la rolita que desde siempre había querido tocar en sax. Esto, ademas de darme alegría por poder lograr una meta que me había propuesto hace tiempo, me hizo reflexionar acerca de lo mucho que he aprendido y lo mucho que me falta por aprender en el ámbito musical que es una gran parte de mi. We are thankful, excited and full of joy: this morning we received the news that we’ll get a funding from Fonds Podiumkunsten ( fund performing arts NL) for the coming 4 years. This allows us to keep making the beautiful things we have in mind, to carry out the plans that would otherwise never have reached reality, to perform on places, festivals and venues that bring joy and love to the audience, and last but not least; ( especially in these dark times) make our existence possible! At the same time, a lot of important and world class groups, dancers and actors didn’t get funding. And this is a great loss. In the last couple of months we’ve experienced not only the importance of healthcare and crucial professions, but also of creators of arts. If we want to create a world that’s better then before, more funding is necessary to allow more beautiful things come to life. We zijn dankbaar, opgewonden en vol vreugde: vanmorgen ontvingen we het nieuws dat we de komende 4 jaar financiering krijgen van Fonds Podiumkunsten. Dit stelt ons in staat om de mooie dingen die we in gedachten hebben te blijven maken, om de plannen uit te voeren die anders nooit de werkelijkheid zouden hebben bereikt, om op te treden op plaatsen, festivals en locaties die het publiek vreugde en liefde brengen, en last but not least; (vooral in deze donkere tijden) ons bestaan mogelijk maakt! Tegelijkertijd kregen veel belangrijke groepen en dansers en acteurs van wereldklasse geen subsidie. En dit is een groot verlies. In de afgelopen paar maanden hebben we niet alleen het belang van gezondheidszorg en cruciale beroepen ervaren, maar ook van makers van kunst. Als we een wereld willen creëren die beter is dan voorheen, is er meer financiering nodig om mooiere dingen tot leven te laten komen.
