From the archive: ’Feigned Innocence: We All Look’ (30 May - 28 Jun 2009) was an exhibition that explored looking and being looked at. It was about the give and take between the watcher and the watched, an interplay of power and desire. It was as much about the secret wish to control as it was about the desire to be wanted. Register now for our next FCG Reads Book Club! This time we will be reading Angela Davis’ Essay “Race and Criminalization: Black Americans and the Punishment Industry” (1997). You can register now through the link in our bio, with the book club meeting via Zoom on August 13th at 7 pm. FCG Reads is a series of virtual round-table discussions centred around a chosen book or piece of writing, with the goal of exploring and diversifying the conversations FCG facilitates and encourages in our community. What roles do structured ideas of race, police, embedded racism, and fear play in the narratives told to us about black people and their communities? How is the prison industry a modern and intentional tool used against Black Americans? In this edition of FCG Reads we will be reading and discussing the essay by Angela Davis titled Race and Criminalization: Black Americans and the Punishment Industry, in which she contextualizes and critiques the long-time and re-invented atrocities committed against black citizens in our world. OK, jangan berdoa untuk dapat jodoh, tapi berdoalah untuk kebenaran. Karena, di situ cinta akan ditemukan.” Testamen Munir Episode 9 menampilkan obituari karya Nono Anwar Makarim (penulis, praktisi hukum dan aktivis) yang berjudul “Munir, dari Dalam”. To you who are asking the question... Do not worry about a child losing freedom to unknowing par- ents, and do not worry about unknowing parents losing freedom to their children. Understand that all of them wanted the experience of co-creating in order to come to a new awareness of desire. Just see them all as having Step One (asking) experiences where they are continually clarifying what they want. Through feeling parental domination, the child gives birth to desires about . . . . . . greater freedom. . . . being appreciated. . . . appreciating others more. . . . independence. . . . opportunities to expand. . . . opportunities to excel. Through offering parental control, the parent gives birth to desires about . . . . . . having more freedom. . . . experiencing more cooperation. . . . the child having a good life. . . . the child being ready for the world he will step out into one day. . . . being understood. In other words, this co-creative, contrasting experience is causing everyone involved to launch more rockets of desire and therefore to Vibrationally expand to those new places. And the only reason any of them ever feel negative emotion is because, in the moment of their negative emotion, they have not yet allowed the expansion. Life caused them to become something that they are not currently allowing themselves to be; and both of them, parent and child, are using the other as their excuse for not being it. . . . A constant challenger, questioner and conceptual thinker. He has long explored ideas of the subconscious and chance. Always looking for stories and ways to convey them using various media and processes. Having travelled extensively and lived and worked in Europe, Asia and the USA, he is interested in remnants of semiotic codes to collate in his work. In 2014 he designed a piece of software to enable him to draw with his eyes and create live performances in public places and art galleries. Just before lockdown in the UK he had a new exhibition ‘In Transition.’ A series of Monotypes depicting the adventures of the Pareidolian Army.
