A MESSAGE: Yesterday, I was featured in an article on Scary Mommy, and today, this article has been pushed onto Yahoo, which is cool and all, because I love when people reach out to hear and share my message and my art.⠀ ⠀ The trouble is that the way the article was titled and worded, came across as sounding like I think being fat is better than being thin, and that being thin is unrealistic. My stance has always been that all bodies should be seen as equal. No one body shape is better than any other, and nobody is a better person than any other based on what they are or are not able to physically do. ⠀ ⠀ It is true that the original art of these characters Ive redrawn was unrealistic, in that their waists are all, without any exceptions, narrower than their heads. But all physical human bodies are realistic, regardless of slimness or fatness, because... they are real. ⠀ ⠀ I focus on making these characters fat simply because I know the struggle of growing up fat, so I can relate, and it helps me. I needed to see the heroes of my favorite stories look more like me, rather than only physically relating to villains or comic relief characters. Good people come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and that needs to be more apparent. ⠀ ⠀ I feel like sharing something personal, and Ill put it in the comments below. Dear my followers, I have to thank you for your kind support. Most of you who have followed me since in the early days could feel that my drawing style has changed tremendously in the last few weeks. Recently, I have realised that I enjoy drawing manga. When I was in primary school, I had always yearned to be a manga writer but as the fate twisted and turned I hadnt got a chance to really pursue that dream. In the past two years, I was scared of drawing humans due to the thought that I could never draw a nice one. However, the feeling of drawing just food illustrations couldnt shield the desire toward my love for manga. So what I would like to state is you might see less or none, for a while, of food Illustrations from me. I would like to concentrate on improving my manga skills especially when it comes to drawing a character. I do hope that you would understand and please accept my apologies for ,that I might have disappointed the people who started following me because of the fondness in my food Illustrations. Nevertheless, I do appreciate every of your kind and supportive comments. I do get to read every single comment, but unfortunately, as a mother of twins , I could barely have time to reply. I’m part of a group putting together an historical #brushchallenge for TikTok so while I was at it I took this small series of photos. The year is 1900. I used strategic blocking so you couldn’t tell my skirt dates to the 1910s 😅 most of my collection is several thousand miles away and otherwise inaccessible to me. . This shirtwaist, of course, belongs to my #Aziraphale cosplay; I made it before all the COVID madness began. Everything else are antiques, including the tie pin. . As I’ve been researching hair in 1900-1902, I’ve been surprised with how red the models’ lips often are. It’s the largest number of color fashion plates I’ve ever taken a look at, at one time. I think a lot of us assume red lips were a style of the 1920s, but we can trace that style even earlier. . I have been working on my book for the last two weeks and I am just a few days away from being done. I put it aside to work on this months Patreon but I am at a bit of a loss. I wanted to do something fun and Halloween inspired but with everything going on in the world I felt like maybe I should do something to encourage mask wearing, to encourage voting or just to encourage people not to give up hope. So, I am going to attempt to do all four. This months print will be Halloween inspired. This months pin with be about voting. I will do another mask design (wonder woman? Merida?) and include it as a coloring page, profile pic and sticker for the mailing tiers. We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Sue Nichols Maciorowski, an influential visual development and story artist who helped define the design and narratives of the films of the Disney Renaissance and beyond. On Beauty and the Beast, she contributed to both visual development and story and created early visual development artwork for Aladdin. From there, she provided character design and visual development on The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch. On Hercules, she created a style guide that defined Greek design, and supervised the look of the film across layout, animation, effects, color styling and more. The title “Production Stylist” was created for her, as no one had done a similar role before at Disney Animation. For The Princess and the Frog, she suggested Harlem Renaissance artists such as Aaron Douglas as inspiration for Tiana’s song “Almost There,” helping storyboard and design the stylized sequence. Most recently, she created early character designs of Maui for Moana. So I got the request to design a original Princess character for a party entertainment company that wants to make their own POC princess so kids can see a Princess that looks just like them.
