EM MEIO A PANDEMIA Meses após o grande acidente com um navio graneleiro de Minério em São Luís-MA vimos ocorrer na Baía de Guanabara-RJ um acidente com a barcaça RIO PORT I que fazia o transbordo de minério, nesse caso de ferro gusa, para um navio graneleiro que estava fundeado no local. Mas por que o navio estava sendo carregado no meio da Baía de Guanabara e não no cais do porto? Há alguns anos o Porto do Rio iniciou as operações de exportação de minério de ferro gusa ao exterior, porém tal minério não é extraído do município do Rio de Janeiro e o Porto do Rio muito menos estava preparado. Foi feito investimento para armazenagem no cais, próximo onde hoje fica a Roda Gigante, para o trem vindo de Conselheiro Lafaiete-MG descarregar seu minério no porto. A operação de transferência de minério começa no Porto do Rio com o navio atracado no cais, porém conforme o navio é carregado (e ganha peso) é preciso desatracar pela restrição da profundidade no local pois o porto não foi projetado para esta demanda. Na fase final de carregamento do minério, falta completar os porões do navio, que ancora no meio da Baía de Guanabara onde há maior profundidade. As barcaças com o restante do minério são carregadas e fazem a transferência através de guindastes dos próprios navios NO MEIO DA BAÍA DE GUANABARA. Foi durante a última fase da operação que a barcaça RIO PORT I sofreu uma avaria em um porão naufragando na área de fundeio em minutos, sem feridos, porém com grande quantidade de combustível, 3 pás mecânicas e cerca de 6 MIL TONELADAS de ferro gusa que faltavam pra completar o carregamento do navio. Não a toa, os botos cinza da BG existiam na ordem de centenas antes dos anos dois mil e agora são menos de 40 botos resistindo nas águas. Além disso, você sabia que a nossa baía apresenta a sexta maior diversidade de Elasmobranchii (tubarões e arraias) do mundo? Vimos o acidente com o Navio na costa do Maranhão, mas o quão longe estamos desse risco no nosso quintal, onde desenvolvemos atividades com o Stand UPET? Quantos acontecem e não tomamos conhecimento?
