Im taking part in the Vegan Runners Virtual Relay Races, which is first time Ive tested my legs in 3 months. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Its quite hard to find a flat part of Bristol so I ran along the Bristol to Bath Cycle track, and ran an out-and-back route to make sure it wasnt downhill (Id only be cheating myself😜). 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️ Im encouraged I havent lost too much pace despite putting on 6kg over lockdown 😬. I now have to lose a few kg before normality resumes. A little extra weight makes a big difference! Yesterday was easily one of best, the hardest, and most inspiring days of my life. The weather was absolutely insane, raining every step of the way, sometimes torrential downpours and sometimes a bit less, and wind gusts of over 30 mph right in our faces. But despite all that, I had an amazing squad of DFMC team mates (several of us that managed to stick together for more than half the race), my dad who ran the last 7+ miles with me, and my loving and supportive boyfriend, family and friends who drove to multiple spots on the course throughout the day and stood in the miserable weather to cheer me on and give me wet hugs. Not to mention all the die hard, Boston Strong fans along the way, and support from friends and family near and far in the form of contributions to my fundraising for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. We ran this race for so much more than finish times and medals around necks. Every person on team DFMC has someone they’re running in honor or memory of, and most people have more than one. Every time the rain got harder or the wind blew stronger I thought about all the names I carried with me and pushed a little bit more. Top Running Injuries 🏃‍♀️🩹 Injuries are a pain. They can be frustrating to manage and recover back to 💯 and put a wrench 🔧in our training and racing plans. Taunton and colleagues found these were the top eight injuries runners deal with. A point that @zerenpt makes in our Bones, Tendons, Weights and Whistles course is that almost all the injuries in this study are located at the knee 🦵and ⬇️. This idea should have a direct impact on how we manage injuries 🤕and how we program strength training 🏋️‍♂️as a means to reduce the risk of these happening. Make sure you are getting your quads, calves and feet strong in the gym. How many of these injuries have you had? I hit 3/8 which is a .375 batting average. Don’t you wish you could just clone yourself and get more done?! 😉 🏃 🏃 🏃 . Seriously though, sometimes the amount of stuff we runners put on our plates can be overwhelming. And the toughest thing about it is that peak running requires a lot of REST! 🤦🏻‍♂️ . As my family has grown and my athletes have multiplied and the amount of time I devote to running has grown, I’ve had to be RUTHLESS with my schedule to fit it all in. . And I’ll be the first one to tell you that it doesn’t always go well! 😂 . But here’s a few tips that have helped! . 👉 Write it down. It’s the same idea behind making a budget for your money. You see where all of your money (or time) is going. “Shoot, I really spent THAT much time on social media last week?!” 😬 . 👉 First things first. First, what sort of life do you want to lead? How do you want to be remembered? What sort of habits does that person have? Make sure whatever comes next fits with that or else... what does it even matter? 🤷🏻‍♂️ . 👉 Cut out extras. There’s all sorts of “extras” in running like foam rolling, massage, etc. If you need to trim somewhere, consider doing these things a little less frequently. . 👉 Multitask like it’s your JOB! I’m talking bodyweight exercises or foam rolling (see above!) while you watch TV, listening to books while you run, and whatever else. These can REALLY multiply your time! My favorite is throwing a resistance band around my legs and doing some hip abductions while I wash dishes! . 👉 Don’t take yourself too seriously. There’s a thousand different ways to meet the same goal. If life gets in the way, then you just have to choose a different path and that’s okay. Don’t force yourself into thinking there’s only one way for you. Think outside the box and enjoy the ride! . Estando en una sesión álgida de terapia mi psicóloga me preguntó: “Fabi porque se pone usted sola en el lugar del tacho??” . Bueno, sencillamente correr es lo que me saca de ahí! Eso. Cuando corro soy de nuevo yo. No como los restos de nadie ni soy el salvoconducto de la humanidad. Soy simplemente yo. Fabi la que corre, la que canta mientras corre, la que baila mientras corre, la que despeja su mente mientras corre. 🏃🏻‍♂️ 🏃🏻‍♂️ 🏃🏻‍♂️ Today saw me complete 30 days of 10k by setting a new PB of 51:35. Along the way I picked up swanky medals🏅from @runnationuk and also ran 10k for @cityrunsldn which was unfortunately unable to go ahead in Shoreditch at this current time. A big shout out to @freetrain . I purchased a Free Train running vest/phone holder which is an amazing product, lightweight, durable and has a selection of different compartments for everything you need on a street run. Anyone looking for a product of this type I would definitely recommend Free Train. A huge thank you to our supporter Lorna Stanger, from Caithness, for raising an incredible £5,142 to help people living with cancer find their best way through. Lorna endured a jaw-dropping duathlon, running and cycling 755-miles over five days - starting from her home, running from Thurso to Inverness and cycling the famous North Coast 500. Wow! 😮 The original plan of running back to Thurso after cycling the North Coast 500 had to be changed, due to a knee injury. Determined to finish the challenge as planned, Lorna ran from Inverness to Thurso covering 112 miles in one day, only two weeks after completing the duathlon 🚲 🏃‍♀️ Covering the 755 miles of remote landscape, Lorna certainly wasnt alone. She was cheered on by friends, family and car horns tooting in support. Lorna is pictured here in our Macmillan greens: Wearing my Macmillan t-shirt made a huge difference. I was stopped by passers-by wanting to donate, which was incredible. We would like to say a BIG thank you to Lorna, her support team and everyone who donated.
