Big-Block Supermodifieds Return To Thompson For World Series NAPLES, ME (September 25) – Officials from the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) and American-Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the Big-Block Supermodifieds of ISMA will be returning to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park for the 58th Annual World Series Of Speedway Racing. The ISMA Supermodifieds are one of 19 divisions that will be racing at Thompson as part of the World Series from Friday, October 9th through Sunday, October 11th. The breathtaking Big-Block Supermods will compete for 50 laps and will join the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season finale, along with the PASS Super Late Models on the final day of racing. “The ISMA Supermodifieds are one of the most exciting divisions in pavement racing and we are happy to bring them back for their traditional visit to Thompson as part of the World Series, said PASS President Tom Mayberry. The World Series is one of the biggest weekends of racing in New England and we are really happy to provide such a great card of short track racing to our fans. The first ISMA Supermodified race to be held at Thompson as part of the World Series was in 1975 and was won by 9-time NASCAR Modified Champion, Richie Evans. Since ISMA returned to the World Series at Thompson in 2010, legendary names like Chris Perley, Ben Seitz, Dave Shullick, Jr., and Jon McKennedy have taken their Supermodifieds to the hallowed frontstretch victory lane. Les 2 chassis construits ( M12-001 et M12-002) possède un V8 Ford Cosworth de 3.9 L de cylindrée. Bien que le bolide étais jugé un peu lourd, son aérodynamique avancé à laide de la nouvelle découverte de leffet de sol lui permettait datteindre les 340km/h en ligne droite. Ainsi, Harley Cluxton, propriétaire du GTC ayant racheté Gulf Research Racing (ou autrefois appelé John Wyer Automotive) engagea un seul modèle pour lépreuve mancelle (la deuxième voiture étais uniquement présente en tant que voiture de rechange). Coté équipage, le Champion du Monde de Formule 1 #MarioAndretti 1978 prendra part à létape accompagné de son fils Michael. Mais, malgré le 9ème temps des essais, le bolide sera disqualifié 20minutes avant le départ de lépreuve! Its time for a little throwback photo dump and a story. Im so stoked for @gridlifeofficial Midwest. This event was the first event Ive ever shot and was where it all started for me. My buddy @vehiclevirgins asked me at lunch one day if I wanted to come with him to this event he got invited to and I was so down. Me being me, I cancelled my surgery for that weekend and went to this event not knowing what to expect. I came with a Nikon d7000 and ONLY a 50mm obviously in over my head and somehow captured so cool stuff that @kristophermiller noticed. He took a chance on this 18 year old young kid chasing a wild dream and took me to gridlife south that year. 4 years later and 100 dreams come true later, Im working along side the wonderful people that make this very event happen (thank you to the man @thechrisstewart ) and Its the best. It really is, and I owe it all to @powerstopbrakes and @gridlifeofficial for lighting the fire that made me go on and make this dream a reality. It made me so excited to shoot and create some rad photos for the world to see these awesome events and people and I wouldnt have had it any other way. Statement from team owner Franz Konrad: “We showed that we were unbelievably quick on both a dry and a wet track. We climbed from 23rd to 3rd place in the opening stages of the race. Shortly after 18:00, the car suddenly started to lose a lot of liquid and we had to retire our Lamborghini in the Bergwerk section of the track. Congrats to @cameron_lawrence in his podium finish in the Trans-Am season opener at Sebring! The team was having issues running the helmet blower and other items while on the grid and not being able to start the car with a 50 pound lead battery that was discharged. That problem went away and they also “got the lead out” saving over 30 lbs by switching to the Braille Intensity I34 lithium battery used in performance street & race cars, hot rods and more for a decade! Scrambling to leave to the pits? I’m afraid that I’ll have to wait a fair bit longer before I will again cast my eyes upon scenes like these. As expected, the only remaining fixture on my 2020 motorsport calendar has also been cancelled. This means that the Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix was the first as well as the last motorsport meeting that I attended this season. And to do that, I neither had to travel nor sleep in another bed... So now, a long winter lies ahead as well as an uncertain future for my beloved sport. Modern motorsport will survive in some way, I’m sure about that - that was resumed from July and will continue down to late December, simply to make up for lost time. It will happen under the strictest of regimes, though - each and every attendant will need to be tested, have their temperature taken daily, wear a face mask at all times and remain in their team or organiser bubble all weekend. That’s all very well when you’re in it to win it, but it’s hardly any fun - and fun is what historic motorsport is about, the winning only comes second. And that’s why my weekend at Monza was cancelled. Not because it was unsafe - the north of Italy is now arguably the safest part of Europe! - but because the historic races there would have been the support races to the modern Monza 4 Hours race of the European Le Mans Series. Meaning that we would have had to adhere to those same strict modern rules. No fun in that, so we’re not going... And with travel restrictions hurting historic racing harder too, it doesn’t paint a happy picture at all. This year it was different, dark, wet and cold. The whole season was unusual and even when it started feeling normal again, we got hit by the circumstances. Nothing felt smooth and easy but the team stood together even in some members absence and with everyone’s own struggles and worries. My head is still processing and my heart still is feeling heavy. But the teamwork we experienced this year is making me proud. It’s a family in good and in bad times. This year we had to fight to survive and one day we will get payback 💪 Anyway we survived. P10 and 11, both cars brought home safe by drivers and kept well by the team. In 1978 my father Paulo Gomes was the first Brazilian to reach a podium at the 24 hrs of Le Mans, he got a P2 with a Porsche 935 from Team Gachia. Today 42 years later its my turn driving the @hubauto_racing Ferrari 488 GTE. Follow @lemans24hours TWR-Porsche WSC-95 1997 LeMans champion. A car that almost never happened. Porsche had other focuses, however Reinhold Joest saw potential in this project and funded it personally. Some support in design from Porsche with an old chassis. This chassis needed adapting for an engine from Tom Walkinshaw Racing. This engine was a frankenstein design between Ford-Cosworth HB 3.5L V8 from the Jaguar XJR14 and a classic Porsche flat 6 turbo. This neglected car, with little offical support, went on the win the 24 hours of LeMans two years in a row. Alpine arrivant avec 4 voitures officielles, Porsche décide de ramener une 935/78 avec une armada de prototypes 936... Mais avant Le Mans, la 935 a subi différentes modifications, que ce soit au niveau aérodynamique ou au niveau de la motorisation En effet, cette 935/78 dite Moby Dick avec ses formes, est en réalité le tout premier moteur Porsche refroidie par eau/air et sera monté sur un châssis tubulaire en aluminium. De plus, 2 énormes turbos seront greffés sur le 6 cylindres pour atteindre une puissance totale de 750 chevaux contre 600 pour une 935/77 (à voir sur le compte de @lemans24passion). Pour contrer une telle puissance, Porsche réalisera un tout nouveau capot arrière pour réduire la résistance au vent et permettra à cette voiture datteindre jusquà 350 km/h dans les Hunaudières... Les problèmes commencent dès le pesage pour la n°43, puisque les portières ne correspondaient pas au règlement Groupe 6 silhouette car des appendices aérodynamiques recouvraient les portières, donc dans un premiere temps, la voiture est refusée pour la course. Mais suite à des arrangements, Porsche réussi à faire participer la voiture en disant que les appendices sont enfaite, la continuité des ailes arrières... Aux qualifications, elle se qualifiera 3e, devant certaines Groupe 6 et loin devant ses autres concurrentes du Groupe 5 ou de lIMSA. Mais la course sera bien plus compliqué pour Porsche en général, après seulement 39 minutes de course, Moby Dick rentre au stand pour ravitailler puisquen 10 tours, elle aura bu 120L, soit du 80L/100km!! Pendant le reste de la course, elle sera victime de plusieurs problèmes que ça soit le pot déchappement, la circuit de refroidissement, en passant par les pompes à injection et à essence... At the last Rennsport Reunion, Edie Arrowsmith and Jeff Zwart seemed to dancing with each other around the track all weekend. With both cars being Signal Orange it was easy to identify Edie quickly because of the blue on the bumper. Thats exactly why they were painted that way back in the day. Before the in car communication systems we have now, instructions would be given by signs held up for the drivers to see. When the the cars were pulling into to pits the crews could identify their car coming and be ready. As one of the US winners of our photo challenge #ZFselects, we invited the 50-year-old to take part in the #ROLEX24 Hours of Daytona, one of the most exciting races on the @IMSA_racing calendar. Daryl took on the challenge to stay up for all 24 hours. Looking back, he remembers “brake rotors glowing red-hot” in the night, “a mix of frantic activity and exhausted crew members” in the pit lanes and “shooting cars along the back stretch, like I had the track to myself” – experiences he won’t ever forget.
