Do you remember the first time you felt conscious of your body? Like there was something ‘wrong’ with you or that you were ‘different’. I was in grade 3, it was casual clothes day at school and I showed up in my uniform. My lovely mum drove back down to school with clothes for me to change into and I hated them! Bike shorts and a T-shirt, super cute outfit but I ALREADY HATED MY THIGHS. I didn’t want to wear them because I couldn’t stand being teased. Not sure if anyone has ever noticed but, I don’t wear pants! Only metaphorically. Sometimes at the gym yes but I ALWAYS wear a long t-shirt that covers half way down my thighs “to hide them”. Age 6 or 7 I was already so hurt, I cry for that little girl sometimes, she felt so horrible about her tiny innocent body and grew up to be a woman that battles herself in the mirror daily. I remember dreading the uniform of tailored pants I had to wear at a job I really loved and I begged to be allowed to wear a skirt, they said no and every shift I felt myself shrink and try to hide. Why do we do this? Why do we do it to each other? Maybe you’ve had the opposite and been told you’re “too skinny” or not “whatever” enough. Why does society uphold impossible standards that are projected on to us from such a young age? There’s so many negative and twisted ‘standards’ in the world that attack us from all angles. Still to this day as an adult I’ve been diminished and told I’m “less than”. Call me crazy but is it by design? Maybe it’s human nature to ridicule, for a child to tease another child about appearance and so many other things into adulthood. Where do they learn it? Parents? Friends? TV? Jokes? These detrimental moments can shape our lives, diminish confidence, warp our perception or ourselves and those around us. I could go on for days and this subject is just the tip of the iceberg of greater issues regarding gender, sexuality, race, age and absolutely everything about us! I know I’m not alone. I feel better about myself than I ever have because I stopped letting those impossible standards and judgement control me, my actions and my thoughts. But, I still have a long way to go in accepting myself and my so called flaws. - @doctrinmusic on Instagram

Real Talk 🌸 People have been asking why I’ve been so inactive in uploading YouTube videos, while I still manage Instagram somehow, well- let’s talk about it. 🌸 This year has been very emotionally wrecking for me. Every time I gained the strength to come back stronger, something else weighed me down with an even higher force than the previous time. 🌸 I’ve learnt this the hard way that only YOU care about you, no one else truly will. Be it your closest people like friends or family. Believe it or not, they ALL phase out at one point and you have to be your own friend, your own advisor and your own support system. 🌸 The hardest part for me is to let go. I doubt myself that I’ll ever be enough for myself or that I’ll be able to fill that void alone. Being abandoned terrifies me! But life doesn’t care about our fears? It will bring us face to face with what we’ve been running from. 🌸 Finally, I learnt to let go of the people i thought are constants and never thought would eventually turn out to be shattering my own mental health. I’m trying to learn that I can be enough, I’m trying to be my own best friend, my own healer, my everything. I’m trying to hit that “reset” button on life so I can do better this time. 🌸 Coming to the social media part of this conversation- It’s easier to use make-up as my therapy without having to say anything, just posing pretty and posting it (Instagram) on the other hand, it’s harder to film videos where I have to “Talk” and try to set a happy vibe. It’s hard for me to tell myself that the camera is enough to keep me happy and going, it creeps in that feeling of being lonelier than I am. I know I’m just going through too much all together but I also know I’m strong enough to overcome it. I’m 50% there already. 🌸 My beloved followers (you people) have been my biggest support system since day 1, and when you felt my absence and didn’t appreciate it, I had to come here and open up about these things. I have been saving this pictures for almost 3 months now and since I posted a sunset that was orange and pink I figured I can totally pair this picture with the sunset! So what do you think about it? I remember that this was the only picture out of 137 that wasn’t blurry.. so it was a real struggle to produce this since my camera can’t take pictures in the dark! The background bokeh is actually from the lights I hung up on my windows and I think that I used my iPhone’s flashlight to produce the light on the orchid, I remember also partially covering gehe flash on my camera since it was too bright and too cold or something, needless to say it was a hot mess, but the final picture turned out really great in my opinion and is my favorite picture from my profile?
