Here’s a photo taken from our album cover shoot in Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, outside of LA, with the very talented @mayafuhr. It was an extra wet day in the desert that afternoon! This was the day before our show in Hollywood was supposed to happen, but COVID-19 had other plans for that and the rest of our tour. Turns out this was the last time we were all together in one place. 2020’s been pretty fucked up so far and we hope this album can help bring you some sort of joy or positive energy to contrast this global gloom. So it finally happened. @jonathancottrell finally hit a COVID wall and agreed with me that it was time to get out of the house...and out of town. . We met our nature group up north for a hike which led to a perfect day complete with catching horned roads and cave exploring. . Then we stayed at a beautiful cabin tucked into the woods that backed up against the canyon of Oak Creek in Sedona. There was no reception and no WiFi, which was 👌🏾 We played games, read books, explored, and rested a lot. It may go down as one of our favorite family getaways. Trigger warning suicide ❤️ ❤️ Today I woke up so thankful. It was the first thing i felt. I finally had a a little bit of a grasp on my PTSD. One year ago today I witnessed a women jump to her death inches in front of me. It was one of the most traumatic things to happen to me. Everyday this year I’ve experienced vivid flashbacks and night terrors. Anger for not saving her. Loud noises like guns and fireworks freak me out and I can’t go into crowded places like malls. I was with my sister and she was wearing one month old John Henry in a carrier. It’s taken a lot of therapy and help to get to this point. Healing hasn’t been linear, but I woke up this morning ready to venture out on my own with JH in a carrier for the first time since last summer. Not letting the unknown stop me from doing what I want. I also want to say that I am always a safe space. If we haven’t talked in years and you are feeling suicidal you can call me. If you deal with PTSD and need someone to talk to call me. There are so many resources out there and you don’t have to deal with it alone. I love you. Things get better. To the guy who cooks some of the most amazing food, has some of the most corny Dad jokes, fills our home with laughter, is the best playground and tackle buddy for the kids, and tells some of the most captivating bedtime stories. To the guy who puts his family first. Who fills our home with songs that he sings, plays, and also DJs. Who encourages the kids to do the same and helps them record their own music that they are so proud to share with me. Who is always up for road trips and loves creating family memories, like we did again this weekend! Who makes a point to hug and snuggle each kid multiple times during the day. Who teaches our boys what it means to be a gentleman and teaches our daughter what to look for in a man. You are the kind of man I pray our boys will continue to grow up to be like, and the type of husband I pray our little girl will marry. The guy that dances in the kitchen with Raelynn, does her hair, and tells her she’s beautiful inside and out. The dad that takes the time to teach the boys skills that they proudly can do on their own now and is intentional about spending quality time with them and speaking life into them.
