Douglas says, “I was introduced to TCK as a volunteer puppeteer for three years and learning to operate these incredible life sized puppets in the traditional bunraku style has been one the best experiences in my life. Since I have been part of this charity we have seen more than 17,000 students in schools across the GTA and surrounding areas. It is an amazing experience to see students eyes light up when the puppets hit the stage with topics that they are currently learning about and going through. 13 years ago today I lost my Mom. I hate to remember this day. Honestly I think about her every single day. But I try to spend this day replacing the sad memories of the last year of her life fighting cancer with the good ones. Playing Tetris - when she thought she could actually beat me. Pissing her off by wearing jeans with holes instead of skirts or dresses. Our mutual love of scary movies, even though she would always fall asleep halfway through. Thai soap operas that we watched in Thai and I couldn’t understand a damn thing so she had to explain the entire plot the whole time. How much she loved me and my brother and her grandkids and bragged about us constantly. HER FOOD!!!! No one’s cooking can compare. The way she answered the phone when my friends called. They told me stories and we laugh about it to this day. Her love of Bingo. Her giving heart. Her smile. She is so, so special to me. I desperately, desperately miss her. But I am so thankful I had her in my life for 30 years even though it wasn’t enough. Last night my oldest son and I sat outside in the dark and talked for an hour. And I told him how much I missed her and the things I missed about her. Then he grabbed my hand and said, “If it makes you feel any better, I think you’re a good Mom.” It does. ❤️ - @minalovesbows on Instagram

Update From the Chair: Today’s infusion marks FOUR YEARS of monthly Benlysta! I remember making the tough decision to try this very new treatment, and I also remember months of vomiting into my office garbage can while my body adjusted to it 🤪🙃😏 sometimes you just Do What You Gotta Do. Wish I could report that I currently feel amazing physically, but truthfully I’m working through a nasty lupus flare this summer. 2020, amiright?!? But my mental health is good, and that is HUGE for me to feeling overall well. I’m happy and grateful. A major thank you to my peeps who wear masks 😷 & take it seriously. The last four days have been a whirlwind of emotions. It’s hard to put into words the gravity of how I feel. A year ago I had three, very big “unknowns” in my life. I wasn’t sure ANY of my questions would be answered. And yet, here I am, a year later with two of my unknowns solved. 1. I have Tannon in my life ♥️ 2. I found my birth mother and am connecting with the a very large, maternal, biological family ♥️ This past Tuesday night, through DNA testing, a maternal second cousin reached out to me to share incredible news that my birthmom was not only alive and well, but had been searching for me. I immediately hopped on an emotional roller coaster and began the beginning stages of a relationship with the woman who gave birth to me, then lovingly placed me in the arms of strangers. As an adoptee I’ve lived my life with a decent amount of uncertainty, wondering whether I would get the answers I was searching for. For most of my teen years and adulthood, I navigated a dichotomy of emotions - desperately wanting answers while simultaneously feeling grateful of the life I was placed into. Never in my wildest dreams, and still reeling from my high of Tannon, did I imagine I’d be faced with news of my birthmom so soon. Last night, only three days after being introduced to her, my birthmom, my older half sister and I had our very first video chat. We three sat there, limited by sound quality and language barriers, began navigating the waters of discovering one another. What a surreal moment. A moment I had dreamed of my whole life. I’ve studied the screenshots multiple times since last night and for the first time in my life, I can see who I look like. It’s almost uncanny how much I look like my birthmom. EDWINS Student Spotlight Ben is a current student heading down the final stretch of the program at EDWINS with just a few weeks to go before he graduates. He was part of the original culinary club at Grafton when Brandon began the programming back in 2013 prior to the launch of the Restaurant and Culinary Institute. “I met him back when he was just getting started,” he notes. “I knew when I got out that I wanted to get some experience and learn how to run a business from Brandon and the team. I’m learning about inventory, ordering wines and how to interact with guests” He enrolled at EDWINS in January after 30 years of incarceration and has loved getting guests to try new things and receiving their feedback throughout the dining experience. “EDWINS is not what you really think. The experience at EDWINS has been so much more than I thought it would be,” he remarked. “I want people to know that EDWINS has not only taught me about cooking but has helped me mentally. Before Urban Roots, Chris co-founded @zocalocommunitydevelopment , where he served as principal for 12 years, overseeing the design, development, and construction of signature mixed-use and residential projects throughout the city.   Chris to shared a few insights about his education and career:   1) What advice would you offer CAP students?     Life within the four walls of architecture school may seem to offer all that a student needs to learn the profession. However, practicing architecture is social, engaged, and at times political, and it’s hard to develop all the necessary skills inside the studio. Take every opportunity to get out into the community and meet people related to the profession. Join the AIA and the Urban Land Institute. Participate in design-build opportunities. Attend a rezoning hearing at City Council. Buy the first piece of junk house you can afford and tear it up. Develop an area of interest and become an expert (sustainability, modular construction, mass timber). Leverage the platform that your school provides to launch a career.    2) How did CAP help you get where you are today?    An architectural education must deliver the basic tools of the of the profession (history, design theory, computer skills)—but the real value is learning a non-linear way of thinking and the ability to stitch together great design with pragmatic realities. Like art, architecture can be abstract, visionary, and inspirational, and yet for architecture more so than art, gravity still applies (as does budget, building code, and programmatic requirements). An architect must travel between these worlds and weave them together into a successful design. Pragmatic realities are not obstacles; they are design opportunities. Happy Friday, friends! We’ve welcomed a few (hundred) new faces here recently, thanks in large part to some on-the-road musical postings from my mama, with whom I recently visited my 94-year-old Granny at the family homestead in a tiny town near Buffalo. If you’re new here, welcome! If you’re not new, well, hello again! Thanks for being here, whether it be for 1 day or for 5 years. In case you don’t know me, I am an intuitive healer, singer, and actress. I am also an aunt and a big sister, an ardent composter, a fairly chronic over packer, and an occasional knitter. I frequently talk to trees and the moon, and I like to read aloud in different accents, for fun and for practice. I am interested in the possibility that we are collectively anchoring more light and love on the planet at this time than it may at first appear. My work, spiritual practice, and creativity are often dedicated to supporting this. At the same time, I also believe in witnessing, feeling and dealing w/ the painful, devastating aspects of the human experience. That’s in my own life, in my work, and as I move through the world. And as a straight, white, cis-gender woman w/ a college education who was raised by two physicians, I have received and continue to benefit from many privileges. So I am dedicated to learning about this, divesting whenever possible, and standing for social justice everywhere I can. I am unlikely to get deep into politics here, because I feel it’s more complex than most of us realize. And because I don’t see that as my role in either the revolution or the collective evolution at this time. But I will always be anti-racist, and pro-equity, equality, and justice, to the best of my knowledge and ability in any given moment. One thing this time of corona has brought home for me is how unifying and healing music is. So I am excited about leaning into that more in what I share with you. Last year I took on the Board Chair role for @foundationbcs, our school district foundation, and it’s been some of the most rewarding community-centered work I’ve done. In addition to funding innovative academic programs, we are placing a big focus on social and emotional learning and are launching @Yale’s #RULER program district-wide. The fundraiser we hosted last week to support this program was magical. I was blown away, but not surprised, by how our community came together for a common goal – giving our children the tools that will help them cope with social and emotional experiences. ❤️ This goal has truly unified our entire community -- with friends from every one of the seven schools in the district in attendance 🙌 . Last week Esther Duflo - the researcher that has inspired and influenced the way I see the world won the Noble Prize in Economics for her work in microeconomics and poverty alleviation. She is also the youngest Nobel laureate and the second woman ever to win this honor. She has changed history, and in doing so, she has also paved a path for us to change the future. As she reflected on the honor - she said, “It really reflects the fact that it has become a movement, a movement that is much larger than us.” For me - this is a prize for all of us who are focused on designing for the underserved and building equitable financial systems. It’s also a reminder to me that movements succeed because movers stay the course, even amid unexpected obstacles and setbacks. I can personally attest to the fact that Esther and her co-researchers encountered setbacks. It takes an emotional toll at times, but even without external validation, I know she would say that staying the course is still worth it. I’d say it’s, most importantly, a reminder that movements are not just about ideas - they’re about turning ideas into actions. I’m indebted to Esther and her team for their foundational work. It’s all of our responsibility to keep taking action and keep putting it to work. So this week being #financialinclusion week - we should all ask ourselves how we can be more bold, stay the course, and challenge the limits of what’s possible. Op 1 april 2018 begon officieel mijn ondernemersavontuur en schreef ik mij in bij de KvK. Voor mij was dat de stap die ik moest zetten om echt te ‘starten’ met een eigen bedrijf. Lang liet ik me tegenhouden, omdat ik geen goede naam kon bedenken of een fantastische naam had bedacht, maar vervolgens ontdekte dat deze al bestond en al was geregistreerd als handelsnaam.. Ik koos ervoor om het simpel te houden en omdat ik op dat moment de opleiding tot stresscounselor volgde, vond ik ‘de stresscoach’ wel een goed idee. I own the fact that I made the choice to get involved with COV|D-19, but I feel called to share that I have found 2020 really challenging at times. Like many of us, I simply can not rationalize how this has been managed by those in power, the political games, the manipulation, the lies, the deceit, the unnecessary deaths, people dying alone and from loneliness, families unable to say good bye to their loved ones with the respect and dignity they deserve, the sheer size of the collateral damage..... This pandem!c has been our mirror - highlighting the good, the bad and the ugly, in a world that we have all played a role in creating. More recently, I have reached the point where I have to believe that there is design, order and intelligence to this. I have to believe that the silver linings will prevail, and that transparency, health, wisdom and true change will be born out of this. This doesn’t mean that I don’t feel frightened at times, worried about what world my children will grow up in. This doesn’t mean that I have any less fire to create change and expose the truth. What this means is that my health and wellness is my priority, and I am choosing to come back to my power, every time I waiver. As my father would say, “don’t let the bastards get you down”. Inspired by Kelly Brogan, can you too consider that is may be a necessary phase of transition, a call to level up our strength, or a spiritual training camp, if you will? Remember, it is the judgement and the fighting with what is, that causes suffering. And as always, acknowledge your fear, your frustration, your anger, your rage. For F*CK SAKE Im not sure where to start, life has for us and for so many, flipped us on its head, spun us around and then repeated that process quite a few times. Happy transformation Tuesday friends!⁣ ⁣ I wasnt going to do a TT post, but then I had an accidental NSV today due to my messy closet.⁣ ⁣ I have a shelf of jeans because in the winter, that is pretty much my uniform. Im definitely a jeans person so I have several. Ok, maybe even like 10?😆⁣ ⁣ All of them fit me EXCEPT I keep a couple that dont always fit. The dreaded skinny jeans. We all have at least one of those right? ⁣ ⁣ When I went to get dressed today, a pair of jeans had fallen from the shelf, probably last night when I folded a different pair to put back. Because I didnt really care which jeans I was going to wear today I grabbed the ones that had fallen.⁣ ⁣ As I went to put them on I noticed they seemed fairly tight...so I looked at the label and was like oh, no wonder but I havent tried to put them on for a least a year so I just decided to go for it. No doubt theyre tight, many times they wont even go past my hips...BUT! TODAY. They. ARE. ON!⁣ ⁣ Ive just been chugging along without the scale moving much, but I can see my body composition is slowly changing, without me having to be obsessive about tracking calories or macros.⁣ ⁣ I have a simple formula now thats been working for me. Three years ago today I had the privilege of participating in a photo shoot with @photoham ! One of the best photographers I know. Lukasz, known as Wu to his friends, was remembered as someone with so much to offer and so much success ahead in your life taken away from you. Charity organisation Puddle Jumpers Incorporated remembered Chelsea as a beautiful, kind-hearted volunteer, who once donated her hair to cancer victims. The man accused of shooting the pair is Lukaszs own father Pawel (Paul) Klosowski. Its believed Lukasz had only recently connected with his father. Clinical Mental Health Counseling. What are your interests or areas of specialty as a counselor? My areas of interest are grief and loss. I also enjoy helping clients experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, stage of life issues and spiritual issues. In what ways do you believe counseling can be helpful? Most, if not all, of us will find counseling useful for us at some time in our lives. Counselors come alongside individuals and walk with them on whatever journey they are on and offer such benefits as: science, understanding, and an alternative view during that journey. What is one thing that you do for self-care? Running. I love it! What have you done for self-care during the pandemic? Teaching my sons to play tennis. What is your favorite/least favorite think about working from home? My favorite thing about working from home is having my dog in my lap during the day. What is one interesting fact about yourself? A group of researchers from the Clemson University College of Education will use a more-than-$950,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to partner with rural schools in South Carolina to make computer science fun and accessible to middle school students and those with learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders. Whos Who in the School of Contemporary Arts- Dr. Chris Reali, RCNJ Assistant Professor or Music @rcnj_music Chris is an Assistant Professor of Music (Music Industry) at Ramapo College of New Jersey where he teaches course on the music industry and music history. Before arriving at RCNJ, Chris taught music courses at several colleges and universities in North Carolina. Reali also spent seven years at Scarsdale Middle School (NY) working as a band director, jazz band director, and teaching general music. Chris toured the United States, Canada, and Europe as Chris Whitleys guitar tech, eventually taking over the tour manager duties. He also worked as David Grays guitar tech during the rise of Gray’s breakthrough album, White Ladder. Chris worked for both acts for several years. Chris has performed as a singer-songwriter, a drummer for a punk band, lead guitarist for several bands, keyboardist/musical director, as well as a four-month residency performing alongside his brother at Holland Village, near Nagasaki, Japan. 🍪 I share my secrets for making perfect cookies every single time❗️ You dont know what went wrong the last time you baked cookies? Here are my top tips to achieve cookie perfection: 🔸 ALWAYS read the whole recipe before getting started. Sounds like a no brainer but thats how you avoid realising youre missing that one ingredient in the middle of it! 🔸GATHER all your ingredients and make sure theyre all at room temperature so they blend nicely. 🔸WEIGH your ingredients rather than using cups 🔸USE soft butter meaning it is soft to the touch and NOT melted 🔸 USE 1/2 sugar+1/2 brown sugar. Use coconut sugar fot a fudgey cookie like I do with Le Coconut. 🔸COMBINE the sugar with baking soda. I know this sounds unusual but this way itll be perfectly blended through. Thats also where I add the cocoa powder if used, always sieved. 🔸TAKE your time, do not rush the mixing, start on low speed and then slowly increase until you get the fluff 🔸SIEVE the flour. I know its boring but hey did I say cookie perfection? 🔸GO for the best chocolate, high in cocoa and low in sugar, this will make a massive difference, no one like overly sweet cookies! My forever mantra is ingredients matter! 🔸CHUNKS over chips guys! The reality of Alzheimers....I honestly amnt even sure why Im posting this, but I feel any time I try to pop on my stories to catch up or talk to you guys i have nothing to speak about, without coming off as whiney, sad, or super negative... . But this is my reality, this is my life, our families lives, day in day out, 24/7, the hardest job and role Ive ever taken on in my life, and one I wish i never had to. . My beautiful mum, as you know has alzheimers, and this horrible disease is progressing quicker then any of us could have ever imagined, and our roles as a family have completely switched. Most days bar the odd few moments of clarity, for a few minutes she comes back to us, says something, looks at you a certain way, cracks a smile, or asks if youre okay - then the more frequent moments, the arguing, the not knowing who I am, the lack of trust towards me, the emotional outbursts and the never-ending weight of knowing whats ahead for her and for us. My heart is breaking bit by bit, day by day & I would truly give the world and more to have her back even for one more conversation, advice or even just a hug! . When we were given the diagnosis we knew what was ahead for us as a family but we never thought for a second how bad things could or would get, grieving for someone as you sit infront of them as theyre looking right through you, never really sure if they even have a clue who you are. It never gets any easier, and those good moments only make the bad moments even harder to accept...Ive been MIA on here for most of this last year, and rather then sharing ive been ghosting, but this is real life, and if sharing things now and then can help atleast 1 person in a similar situation feel like they arent alone, then I should be using the platform I spent so long trying to build for good, rather then letting it all just lay dormant ..Because caring for someone regardless of the illness, especially in these times can be very isolating, lonely & a whole mix of emotions...So makeup may not be on the agenda for now, but I am hoping to check in now and again, and try learn not apologise for being honest, because this is our reality. As a first generation daughter of immigrants I realize I was never truly taught how money worked and how it was taxed. Its not things they taught us in high school or in university and my parents werent from here so how would they have taught us. Now my parents have always been hardworking individuals who did everything they could to give us the best and they did. And even though they had successful businesses they werent on anybodys radar, not enough so that the finance world would want to reach out to help teach them so they could pass that knowledge down to us. Coming to the realization that the game is rigged is upsetting! If youre not in the 1% finacial advisors in the traditional space arent reaching out to help you. That all ends with me!! I am the last person in my family who doesnt know and Im making it my mission to pass that knowledge down and teach as many families as I possibly can and truly help change the trajectory and the generational wealth for them. I’m on a high after spending 4 13 hour days reprogramming my mind and body during an incredible UPW @tonyrobbins event. ✨ Last year was tough and this year has been an incredible healing gift. ✨ To be honest I was embarrassed to share this photo because I wasn’t happy with my appearance. Period party 💃 Just started my period, right on time for me, day 31 I used to only have a period every 90 + days on average. I went a whole year without one at different times. I had PMS the whole time though - I was a bloody moody cow! Or is that a bloodless moody cow 🤔 It was a hard hard time, frustrating, confusing and I was often dismissed. Even by myself! I worked so hard on getting my periods back, and I am so pleased I did. Not having a period in your cycling years is not normal, and should be investigated (if you are on a form of contraception that stops your period then thats another conversation.) We need to investigate why your brain and ovaries are not communicating as they should!! So many things could be at play from stress, thyroid imbalance, oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone imbalance to elevated prolactin, over exercising and low body fat. Plus PCOS, underactive thyroid and more. It is a puzzle we need to solve, together. Its more than just taking a pill to mask the symptoms. I am going to share a conversation with an INCREDIBLE woman named Lauren that I have the absolute privileged of working with, she very kindly shares her hormonal journey with us and how we worked on getting your brain and ovaries talking again and her getting her period back after 15 months of amenorrhoea, in the Hormone Balance School. N E U A N F A N G Heute ist es soweit. Montag der 31.08.2020. - mein Neuanfang. Zum einen ist heute der erste Tag nach vier Wochen Urlaub und zum anderen beginne ich heute meinen neuen Job. Neuanfang bedeutet für mich ein Stück Angst, aber auch eine große Chance. Ich bin gespannt, ob es mir gelingen wird den neuen Job auch so sehr zu lieben wie meine vorherige Verwendung als Karriereberaterin. Ab heute werde ich nur noch wenig persönliche Kontakte haben, dafür mehr mit Weisungen, Entscheidungen, Kugelschreibern und PC zu tun haben. Vielleicht ein typischer Bürojob?! Vielleicht lässt es sich aber auch etwas lebendiger gestalten?! Die Zeit wird es zeigen. Ich habe mich dazu entschieden, diese berufliche Veränderung einzugehen, so stelle ich mich auch mit Freude dieser neuen Herausforderung. Ich freue mich auf neue Menschen, Kollegen und Kameraden, die den Weg mit mir gehen, auch wenn es mich natürlich traurig macht, viele andere nun nicht mehr bei mir zu haben! Aber wisst ihr was?! This is a story of two completely different people. 🤯 . . Growing up in Texas, Hussain’s body weight was pushed to the extreme as he completed his university football career. After moving to Vancouver, Hussain noticed the quality of his health worsening after the birth of his first child and accepting a promotion at work that required frequent international travel. He became depressed as his self-esteem reached an all-time low along with him tipping the scales at 350 pounds. As desperation kicked in, Hussain dramatically cut carbs, calories and increased cardio. In honor of #nationalhairday let’s take a trip down memory lane for some swipe left 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 & 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴. 1: The Gales with a 9 year glow up. I’ve embraced my curls and silvers, while Dave bounces back and forth between a head full of hair (with his own tinsel) and a sexy shave. Also can we shoutout Monat Skincare?! 2: Florida 2015- My poor hair was damaged beyond, frizzy, limp and bleached out to try and blend the every growing grey. 3: Florida 2020- All natural hair color that is shiny, healthy and can handle being blow out even in crazy humidity. 4+6: Cruise 2018- These are what my natural curls looked like styled. They were still in the process of healing and growing out my natural silver. 5+7: Cruise 2019- a year and half later and my color and curls had never been better. 8: 2013- my natural curls fully styled. 9: 2020- my natural curls fully styled.
