V roce 1939 už byly samozřejmostí hydraulické (slovy výrobce „olejové“) brzdy, působící na všechna čtyři kola, i když samozřejmě pouze jednookruhové a s nutností občasné mechanické regulace seřizování čelistí. Ruční brzda byla lanová, jen na kola zadní nápravy. Vůz byl osazen plechovými disky s prohloubenými ráfky. Disky byly osmnáctipalcové, upevněné šesti šrouby a i na zadní nápravě pouze jednoduché – pro nosnost jedné tuny jednoduchá montáž bohatě postačovala. Podle původního výkresu počítal výrobce s použitím pneumatik 6,50 – 18, ale ve finále vůz dostal pneumatiky užší, jen 6,00 – 18 a zatímco první prototypy měly disky elegantně dírované a s chromovanými škodováckými poklicemi jako u osobních vozů, v sérii vyrobených 81 kusů dostalo jednodušší disky hladké a bez poklic. První prototypové provedení, realizované v roce 1939, se vyznačovalo nezvykle štíhlou elegantní maskou, nahoře ozdobenou kruhem s velkou „slepicí“ (jak škodováci okřídlenému šípu v hantýrce říkali). Kabina ale byla příliš hranatá a s tlustým dělicím sloupkem mezi čelními skly, což se štíhlou maskou příliš nekorespondovalo, takže zůstalo jen u prototypu. Druhý prototyp už odpovídal designérským stylem škodováckým nákladním vozům z období let 1936-37. Měl čelní sklo vcelku a zaoblený předek kapoty ve stylu většího bratra Škoda 150. Upravena byla i žebra masky chladiče a chladičová ozdoba i křidélko s nápisem ŠKODA, které byly převzaty z osobních vozů.
