A Memorial Day letter from a Vetran friend! This sums it up perfectly 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 My Fellow Americans: Memorial Day is a time of deep reflection. Its an emotionally piercing time for me, as I ponder about the sacrifices the men in our battalion made. I think about the bold men I served with under the leadership of General James Mattis, who were part of a unit that had two goals: the first was liberating Iraq from a despot named Saddam Hussein, and the second was winning over the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. Historians will judge us all, but I want to focus on the men who made the ultimate sacrifice in this letter. Ill never forget the layover on the way home. We stopped by the airport in Atlanta before going back to 29 Palms, California. Hundreds of people were waving the American flag at the airport, taking photos, and clapping. I remember this vividly. It sent chills up my spine. Unfortunately, some of the men in our unit did not get to see that beautiful display of patriotism and unity. Sadly, some of these young men returned home in flag draped coffins. Thats why Memorial Day is important. I want people to know that they were honorable men, and in a world that seems increasingly divisive and superficial, these heroes gave up their lives, fighting for something bigger than their own self-interest. I remember all the Marines, Soldiers, and Navy Seals I served with who died in Iraq. I was honored to fight beside them. Theyre dearly missed, but never forgotten. Theres not a single day that goes by that I dont think about these Fallen Angels. Its part of my life. I dont ever want the pain to go away, because it reminds me of their sacrifice, and besides, any pain I feel absolutely pales in comparison to what they had to endure. People ask me about the backgrounds of the men I had the honor of serving with. When I served, I never asked if the Marine to my right or left were a democrat or a republican. Nor did I care if they were from Dallas or Los Angeles. We marched to the sound of the guns. The Marine Corps. does not care about your race, nor do they care about your political affiliation. This was the coupe’s third rebuild, with the previous incarnation dominating the Summernats Street category for a number of years – included taking out Street King and Top Judged Street at Summernats 14. Two years later, Ben pulled the car off the road for an exhaustive five-year, full-elite build – mostly completed in his home garage with the help of some dedicated mates. Debuted as part of the Great Meguiar’s Uncover at Summernats 23 (2010), Ben then spent an additional two years improving the finish and presentation of the already Top 10 car. In 2012, it returned to take out the People’s Choice/Grand Champion double header. Winning Meguiar’s Peoples Choice had a lot to do with Ben grabbing the Grand Champion sword, as he only beat out the storming, six-time Grand Champion, Peter Fitzpatrick by one solitary point! Mechanically, the Monaro runs a #Holden V8 stroked to 327ci, M21 four-speed manual, and completely smoothed over 9in diff – all rolling on Intro billet wheels. Inside was wall-to-wall leather complete with flat floor and custom-made dash filed with aftermarket gauges. Drive it to the track, turn very respectable lap times on street tires, drive it to dinner, drive home in a monsoon, and then put it back in the garage. That’s it’s.
