For the next 10 days well be sharing images from our collection of Old Spanish Days Fiesta history. Todays image was taken at our own Covarrubias adobe (1817). It features internationally acclaimed dancers José Manero and Paquita del Rey celebrating Old Spanish Days. In 1940, they were hired to perform for the “Nacimiento de Santa Barbara,” a popular nighttime review at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. Manero became a mainstay of Fiesta dance over the next two decades in his own performances, and through generations of students still dancing today.
