Ingen blir förvånad över mina långa frånvaroperioder från dessa plattformar. Är ju inte ett jättefan. Men nu fyller dessa plattformar ett syfte för mig. Jag når så många av er, med så enkla medel. Och det är allt jag mäktar med. Jag har återigen fått en trist diagnos. Denna gång är det inte en avsliten höftböjare, en krossad nack-kota eller ett söndertrasat knä eller nån av de andra grejerna jag inte skulle kunna hämta mig ifrån. Nu är det tuffare. Jag har en väldigt illa placerad cancer i gallvägarna. Extremt svår, kanske omöjlig att behandla. Fortfarande ett besked kvar att invänta, men ingen direkt solskensprognos. Oavsett annalkande beskeds natur så återstår sedan några sista ”halmstrån” att sträcka mig efter, i detta okontrollerade fall mot avgrunden som började för en månad sedan. Dessa halmstrån är dock huvudsakligen bara sätt att köpa mig tid. Låt mig förtydliga: jag är långt ifrån uppgiven. Vissa strider kan man inte vinna. Det har ingenting med att ge upp att göra! Många av er vet redan och jag tackar er alla för er enorma kärlek och allt otroligt stöd jag fått och som mina barn och min blivande fru Louise har fått. Blivande? Came up in a time where he could not vote, walk through the front door and such. Passionate about knowing your history, in and outside of the music. Today is my Grandparents’ 55th wedding anniversary! As you will see from the pics here, I normal buy them a cake every year to celebrate but I couldn’t this year bc of Rona 🙁. However, I talked to them yesterday and my Grandma wanted to make sure that it’s on the record that while they’ve been married for 55 years now, they’ve been together as a couple now for 61 years total! My Granddad told me that the secret to their marriage is God and compromise. Lord knows they’ve had a lot of ups and downs happen to them individually and together in their marriage, but they always have had each other to rely on and to love! At 7:20 pm on 5 July 2012, when returning from Kolkata, Barun Biswas, a Bengali teacher and social worker from Sutia, West Bengal, was shot from behind in a parking lot outside the Gobardanga railway station. Sutia and neighbouring villages were engulfed by a criminal gang during the late 1990s and early 2000s. From 2000—2002, 33 rapes and around a dozen murders were committed in Sutia. Biswas formed a group of villagers to fight crime and to demand arrests. In 2000, at age 28, he co-founded Sutia Gonodhorshon Pratibad Mancha. The organisation started to hold public meetings to protest the rapes. During such a meeting, Biswas said: If we cant protect our daughters, sisters, wives and mothers, then we shouldnt be living in a civilized society. If we lack the courage to take on the rapists, we deserve more severe punishment than they do.... So come and join us to protect the honour of our women. Biswas group helped rape victims give reports to the police that led to arrests of the gang members, including the leader of the gangs, Sushanta Choudhury. Biswas also counselled the raped women. Following his muder, police from Habra, Gaighata, and Gopal Nagar arrested five men with ties to the Sutia gang. This included the alleged hired killer, Sumanta Debnath, alias Fotke, Debashish Sarkar, Bishwajit Biswas, and Raju Sarkar, most of whom were local students. The alleged assassin reportedly confessed to the police that he was contracted by gang leader Sushanta Choudhury, who was serving life imprisonment in Dum Dum Central Jail. I am a proud mother who has lost her son. Barun, my youngest, never went on the backfoot despite knowing there was a threat to his life. Till the day Pratibadi Mancha (a social service organization set up set by Barun) raises its voice against all atrocities, my son will remain immortal. I didn’t realize my family wasn’t the norm until I was in my late teens. We are all super (annoyingly) close, we love, like and respect each other and always want to be around each other. It’s simply because of the foundation my dad and mom laid. My daddy loved his wife and showed it in every way; he always let it be known that she was/is a prize! the EIGHT of us felt that love and it became our way of life. Daddy won’t eat dinner until his wife was home, he couldn’t function if she traveled - even to the point of sniffing her clothes 🙈. They talked about EVERYTHING, even secrets they promised us they won’t tell the other. We ate every meal (possible) as a family, we talked, shared our days, our plans and LAUGHED together! When daddy went to bed, mommy followed and vice versa. They were a unit; we are a unit! Daddy always said that each of his daughters was worth 100 sons. He (and mommy) gave us so much love and attention that we each felt like an only child. I’m not sure HOW they raised us all in unity but it can only be God. The loss of my daddy has been a huge blow to all of us but we are comforted knowing that daddy lived a great and exceptional life. He loved God above ALL things and served his church, his country and his family to the best of his ability. He was a man of integrity, always doing what he said he would and doing it on time. He lived what he preached and believed; and I have no doubt in my mind that he is in a better place. It’ll take a while for this to truly sink in and for me to truly accept. I miss you, papa. The first actor I interviewed for the Vikatan student reporter magazine. The first actor Ive admired ever since I was 3yrs old. Did I scare you then, from the screen? he had quipped. Next day, we were invited for breakfast with him. Nervously gobbling up the variety of South Indian food, we were treated to the famous Annai Illam hospitality. And then he asked me to read out our interview, in Tamil. With my voice shaking to pronounce words in a language that he was a master of, I read out the paragraphs with intonations as he corrected them along the way. By the time I reached the end of the article, I had gathered enough courage to make eye contact with his appreciative nods. You have a very engaging voice, good diction he said. (This one line made me audition for Radio Mirchi years later & I got selected to host a prime time show ). On that cue of his nod, I read the last word and...exhaled!
