After a TikTok where a man lip-syncs to “Dreams” while longboarding and drinking Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry Juice went viral, Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic has seen a massive spike in streams, enough to enter the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs Chart. The track, off the band’s 1977 album Rumours, currently sits at Number 29 on the daily version of the RS 100, which ranks the biggest songs in the U.S. by a combination of sales and on-demand audio streams. An official version of the Rolling Stone Top 100 chart is published every Monday. With over 16 million views on TikTok, doggface208’s viral video — which won the approval of Fleetwood Mac themselves — caused streams for the song to more than double from Saturday through Monday. In the three days before the video was uploaded, the 1977 Rumours classic was receiving an average of 49,000 streams a day, according to numbers from Alpha Data. In the three days after the TikTok video was posted, the song has been streamed an average of 105,000 times a day. Sales for the song nearly tripled, up 184% from Saturday through Monday. Spotify reports that streams were up 127% on its platform with a 242% increase in first-time listeners of the song. Apple reported a spike of 221% in streams, and also reported a 1,137% increase in Shazams for the song, indicating that the song was finding new listeners. Words can’t begin to describe the loss. @chadwickboseman‘s work in Black Panther and so many other black centered roles inspired generations of us. So many of our lives (especially us black creatives) have been changed forever because of his work in Black Panther. The year it came out was the year I was able to say goodbye to my 9-5 to work on my business full time because of the success of movie and my designs around it. Whether you were a kid excited to see that superhero’s and royalty could look like us, or you were a Black Millennial (like myself) learning about parts of your history that the American school system tried to erase through his films like “Marshall”, “42”, and “Get On Up”, or maybe you were just finally ready for a narrative outside of black pain and wanted something purely about black excellence, the man gave it all it to us and then some. To know that he silently battled cancer while still working nonstop to give us the representation and talent we so desperately need to see in Hollywood makes his loss even harder to bear. Marsha P. Johnson was a gay rights advocate, AIDS activist, and co-founder of S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), a gay and transgender advocacy group, cofounded with with lifelong friend Sylvia Rivera. Johnson was on the forefront of the Stonewall Inn uprising on June 28, 1969, which following a series of uprisings in protest of the raid, lead to the first Gay Pride Parade in 1970 🏳️🌈 Johnson’s style is iconic, often wearing bold lipstick & blush, colourful eyeshadow, and bright wigs decorated with colour plastic fruit. Her described ‘larger than life’ personality combined with cosmetic and fashion choices is an absolute inspiration. The last photo is from Andy Warhol’s “Ladies and Gentlemen” where Johnson was included in a Polaroid series that focused on trans women of colour and drag queens. When they don’t see any action, they think, ‘Well, gays are all forgotten now, they’re worn out, they’re tired.’” – Marsha P. Johnson (Aug. 24, 1945 – Jul. 6, 1992), 1973 (picture: Aug. 1972, c/o Randy Wicker) . Marsha P. Johnson, whose body was found 28 years ago today, was among the parents of the queer liberation movement. Among other things, she played a part in the Stonewall Riots; co-founded or participated in groups like Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (S.T.A.R.), Gay Liberation Front, Gay Activists Alliance, and AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP); and inspired or collaborated with artists from Andy Warhol to the Hot Peaches. She was an activist and icon, a sex worker and muse, a revolutionary and a victim. . For many, Agosto Machado described, Johnson’s presence “on Christopher Street or wherever she stopped and asked for spare change or chatted with people, it was a religious, holy experience.” She was, a friend said, “a subculture within a subculture.” . As such, Johnson faced constant backlash from within and beyond the queer community. Nonetheless, in the face of racism, transphobia, and an ever-sharper drift toward assimilationism, she remained unapologetically Black, trans, visible, vulnerable, and kind. . On July 6, 1992, just days after Pride, Johnsons body was pulled from the Hudson River near Christopher Street. Despite ample evidence suggesting the 46-year-old had been murdered, NYPD ruled hers a death by suicide. In 2002, after a decade of campaigning by Johnson’s friends, NYPD reversed course, finding there had not been enough information for the suicide ruling, reclassifying the case as undetermined. In 2012, after even more pressure, NYPD officially reopened the case. . Creating cosplay and coming up with ideas to fit my body shape and hair type has been so fun! Putting my own spin on characters I love has taken my creativity to new heights. It doesn’t matter if I look like the character or if I’m even the same gender or species of a character I like, If I like them I can cosplay them and make it work for me. Cosplay is about having fun and expressing yourself through that medium and its such a unique type of fun immersing yourself into another world, dressing up, acting out and just living. YOLO right? I have been making an effort to help others be fearless with things they are passionate about. Who I am now has brought so many amazing people into my life who I admire, who I draw strength from and we mutually cheer each other on. I had to go through a lot of hardships and feeling like crap to get here, but I keep reminding myself that it’s ok to be unapologetically me. In the night from 27th to 28th of June 1969 the Stonewall Riots took place at the Stonewall Inn, a bar in Manhattans Christopher Street. The movement was initiated and led by Black Trans Women and Trans Women of Color, most famous to name is Marsha P. Johnson. The first big uprising of the LGBTQIA+ community fighting for their rights and against police brutality is an annually celebrated act of resistance known as CSD - Christopher Street Day. Dance floors, clubs and bars are inherently political - they are historically important spaces for the fight for liberation, belonging and non-binary explorations of identity. Going out, being social, dancing and raving are political acts especially for marginalised individuals and communities. Summer is over. Well, weve got until after Labor Day for the real summer season to be over, but honestly, it was over before it began. Definitely a bummer summer for an insurmountable number of reasons that we are all aware of. Theres a lot to look forward to, but theres also a lot to reflect on. While todays theme for the #virgovinylchallenge is Cheer Up, I respect and honor the notion that for a lot of people right now, theres not a lot to be happy about. Thats why today, Im going to listen to a happier summer, one Miss Donna Summer to be exact, and her disco-dancing, moving-and-grooving seminal album Bad Girls to commemorate the end of this summer, and a fresh start for September and the upcoming Fall season. After all, she was one of the original Nasty Women. 🟡 Today I want to talk about a topic that people ask me a lot, what is Afro jizz?!? As someone that was born and raised in Kongo I do not know what Afro jizz is but it can be another approach within the style of ndombolo for me. For us back home it is just ndombolo I have not seen Afro jizz in Kongo Kinshaa or Brazzaville We know Ndombolo, soukous, kwasa kwasa, mapocha and many other dances but we don’t know what Afro jizz. Do not argue with me there’s facts behind this. If you want to say in Afro jizz we add hip hop movement guess what in Kongo we’ve been influenced by Afrikan amerikan street dances since the 60s that’s my dad era. The only thing that’s different is the musik but we can do ndombolo to any style of Afrikan musik. If Afro jizz is going to be a style can we get more knowledge, because many people are curious. I can teach NDOMBOLO so when people ask me about Afro jizz I can’t educate y’all, because we don’t know this back home. Ndombolo is inspired by many dance styles. We have many different approaches Technique Basics Foundation Grooves History What is Afro jizz? We know the difference between coupe decale & ndombolo as dance styles Evolution is real yes but it’s not because I add ndombolo in my hip hop that I’m gonna say I created a new style 👀 does that make sense. Lottie Lee-Davis, 62, pastor at Be Ready Jesus is Coming Church, was killed in the crash along Kirkwood Highway, just east of Route 41, on Friday, September 18, 2020, along with 52-year-old Arthur Bell of Bear. Police said a Chevy Blazer, driven by Bell, crossed the median from the westbound to the eastbound lanes of Route 2 near Newport-Gap Pike around 9:10 p.m., and slammed in Lee-Davis Jeep Renegade.
