Before he came to Amazon Shelter Our Tapir, Frank was kept in a small cage at a live music venue and restaurant. Loud music played most of the night and many people came to take pictures with flashing cameras. He arrived here very thin and subdued and for the past year and a half we have helped him to gain weight and confidence. He now has a large area to roam around in and fresh leaves and vegetables every day. In the future we would like to find Frank a female to pair with and it is our goal to pioneer one of the first Tapir releases in the wild. (Check out @just_another_wenwe to see what we were up too). *** OUR REVIEW: Photographing behaviour in a way that encapsulates the scene is not easy. The best images of behaviour is where we can see the intent in the animal to do that behaviour. We can see the intreset in the one wild dog (front left) on the warthog. His intent is shown by his body lanuange. So we need to know and understand behaviour to photograph it well. Wilddog as a species will always draw attention to a photograph, becuase they are rare. Add unique behaviour to that and we have an image that is striking. Then having the golden light is just magical. *** I am just going to state one thing, the brightness of the scene and the vibrant colours, cheers the scene up a little. It does look like Pumba is going to get away here. If Felix choose an image where the pigs situation is more dire and dropped the vibrancy & expsoure down, I would almost suggest a monochrome image. The drama in the scene would be increased, 10 fold. *** What are your thoughts on this image, do I have the bright and cherry atmosphere wrong? This rustic Luwi Bush Camp stands in a small grove of mahogany trees and has great views over a floodplain to the Luwi riverbed beyond. Although the camp is away from the main Luangwa River, there are two permanent lagoons here, each with an impressive population of hippo and crocodile. This camp houses only 5 chalets which means that individual attention is tailored for each guests’ experience. Each chalet is en-suite. The main area of the camp is comprised of a thatched roof and sandy floor, housing the bar and library. Other communal areas can be found dotted around under trees in the shade. Adult rhinos have no predators aside from humans. They are not heading towards extinction due to the actions of any other species except us. WE are the cause of THEIR decline and so it is OUR responsibility to ensure that the rhino species across the world do not go extinct. Look at your fingernails. Rhino horn is made of the exact same material as your nails - Keratin. Yet rhinos are being killed at devastating rates so humans can use their horn as a status symbol and to ‘treat’ illnesses. This is WRONG. Rhino conservation has made huge steps forward and we have the incredible humans on the ground risking their lives every day to thank for this. Especially today. But still, we look forward to the year when rhino populations are thriving to the point that we no longer need this day of conservation awareness. This photo is of a stunning Black Rhino (Diceros bicornis) that I found whilst out in the bush and I have never shared this photo before and heres why.⠀ 🦏⠀ I dont normally post photo of rhinos, especially any that have been taken recently, due to poaching risk. Poachers have been known to use photos posted on social media to look at a variety of factors from horn size to specific features that they could use to help them track down a rhino.⠀ 🦏⠀ Since its #WorldRhinoDay and this photo is over 3 years old Im happy to share it.⠀ 🦏⠀ But If you decide to share a photo of a rhino make sure its at least 1 month old, the GPS settings of your camera are turned off and you havent tagged the exact location of where you took the photo. Even giants fall The circle of life is harsh and relentless. The rotting carcass of an Elephant bull provides shade during the heat of the day to a nomadic male Lion. The smell was putrid, the flies were intense, yet this Lion stays true to his claimed prize and continued to feed on the carcass throughout the day. The Elephant bull died of natural causes during a fight with another younger bull for dominance. Mavuso, as he was named, was estimated to be around 55 years old and formed part of one of the original Tuskers introduced to Pilanesberg from Kruger in 1998. You certainly don’t see that everyday! 😳⠀ ⠀ We witnessed a newly born calf that had been born very recently go and start suckling a nearby female black rhino for milk. The two black rhinos were very remarkably gentle and patient with the calf allowing it to suckle with its nervous mother close by. Calling all wildlife lovers! Please help us in supporting our Wildlife Warriors! The current travel bans have had a devastating impact on the conservation world as most protected areas rely solely on income from tourism to fund conservation and wildlife protection operational costs. Parks have had to make ends meet with zero income from tourism and all financial resources are depleted. Species such as White and Black rhino, Wild Dog, Cheetah and more require continued protection, and funds raised from the Zululand Conservation Trust go directly towards endangered species protection and monitoring at Manyoni Private Game Reserve in South Africa. The project aims to fund equipment, protective clothing, training, death and disability insurance for field rangers on the front line. Field rangers have very high risk and stressful looking after endangered species and we therefore have to look after them. Job security and life Insurance will provide them with piece of mind knowing their families will be looked after. Funding for field rangers will ensure endangered species are protected. The project will fund an entire anti-poaching units operational costs for three months. This will ensure that critical populations of white and black rhino as well as wild dog and cheetah are protected and monitored while there is no income from tourism. - Feeding the pride. It’s always a ‘family’ (full pride included) dinner. Nothing is wasted n it seems there is just enough to go around (there were 3 zebras on the menu this meal) n this was a pretty big pride - 3 large males run it n estimated 14 pride members or so total.
