Patricia Rector, one of the over 1,000 Chattanoogans experiencing homelessness, said she camped in the same spot on Workman Road for 23 years until she was made to leave on Tuesday. My boyfriend came and woke me up and said you got to go in five minutes or youre going to get bulldozed, she said through tears Tuesday afternoon, as city employees and volunteers helped to clear the site that she and dozens of others have called home for decades. As she spoke, construction vehicles began clearing a previously vacant lot on which one of Chattanoogas oldest and largest tent cities gave refuge to members of the vulnerable population until property owners chose to develop the site. [Chattanooga police officers] were all real polite about it but they didnt really care. They told me to head for the bushes, so I did. No one takes us seriously, but this is my home, Rector said with great emotion. They didnt tell us. I lived here 20 years, and they dont give me any notice before taking away my home. Rector and others said they were given little or no notice before Walter A Wood Supply Co., which owns the partially wooded piece of property, began unpermitted development on the property. Some of the years events have been pretty brutal on everyone around the world. We say no more so than some of the animals that have either been left to fend for themselves or never had anyone to begin with. This dog was found by a volunteer and brought to the clinic for immediate attention. She was very emaciated and had many bed sore type wounds across her body. Some major TLC was required. Cleaning up her wounds and delicing was followed by a very hearty meal and antibiotics. It was clear she had not eaten very much in quite some time. She is an incredible soft trusting girl at an age of 10 years plus. It seems she has previously been loved but as with many aging dogs she may have regrettably been kicked to the curb. She is slowly getting better under the watchful eye of the clinic and we will hopefully be able to arrange a better arrangement for her in the future. I have some personal...and very exciting news! If you’ve known me for any length of time, you’ve either heard about my Golden Retriever, Josey Greer, or you had the pleasure of being around her. She’s been gone for almost 6 years now. The day she died was, hands down, the worst day of my life. It took my wee ole heart a good long while to recover. Then, Shinyribs happened and I was gone so much. But, now is now, and in the spirit of staying ever present, I made the leap and adopted this sweet, loving 8 month old fur baby!!! We’ve had about 36 hrs together and I think we’re gonna be a perfect match ❤️ He already loves me a lot, I think, and doesn’t want to leave my side. His name is Morocco (it was Koe). Although, Moe is what I’ve been calling him today. 2020 was the year we were gonna go to Morocco, but Covid, so I brought Morocco to me. Anyway, a rare gushy post here. He’s very friendly, and happily climbed into the lap of a volunteer who recently paid him a visit in his kennel. He also kept going to the kennel door -- it seems pretty clear that Jack does not want to be in a kennel, and would much rather be home already, please! Jack originally came into the shelter on August 22 having a possible owner. He was briefly adopted, but returned less than two hours later when it was discovered one of his former adopters was highly allergic to him. Alright, so who’s gonna be the lucky human to make Jack their forever pal!
