My mum helped prepare the lau ti & I made 13 lei yesterday as part of our @350pacificbrisbane event for invited guests who were Indigenous. Forgot to take pics. It took hours but was meditative. Prez taught me how to make a type of lei that is also used traditionally as rope. Lau ti has medicinal properties & is sacred to Polynesians. Many moons ago featuring @laurienouchka leggings on the cover of @guardianweekend magazine by @aradiacrockettstylist ❤️ Just reading about consciousness in @mamaxanadu fantastic new book on sacred geometry. She quotes Einstein’s law of thermodynamics which states that “energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another. Boundless energy exists in the universe, the magic lies in the ability to harness and redistribute it.” That’s how I experience creativity, creation, art, whatever you want to label it. It is not one thing, I am not one thing. We are boundless, endless, limitless vibrations of energy capable of eternal creation & transformation. My endless creative incarnations all make sense to me. What would make less sense to me would be If I stood still, doing the same thing over and over, out of fear or the idea of survival. I love the fact that the feature for the front page was all about cycling. To my mind: the journey, the movement, the endless cycle. Judas Priest - Turbo. Over the years not many albums have been hated on as much as this one. Even for the members of JP, this album will always be remembered as sore thumb. Granted it is not a Stained Glass or a Sad Wings Of Destiny, I still feel it deserves respect as a classic Priest album. Released in 1986, this album was the perfect storm. Halford had hit rock bottom with his own issues and they were trying to follow up behind two stellar albums, Screamin For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith. All of this while trying to be relevant in a pop/metal market. I think this would have made a great EP to hold fans over while they worked out some issues. There are a few good tracks on this one such as Turbo Lover, Locked In, and my favorite, the anti censorship, teenage anthem Parental Guidance. Adoro filmes baseados em histórias reais. Esse fala tantas coisas, mas me chama a atenção o lapidar o nosso talento. Esse é um drama meio antigo (de 2000), que rendeu o único prêmio do Oscar para Julia Roberts. Simplesmente espetacular no papel de Erin Brockovich. Ela enfrenta um dia a dia duro, com três filhos pequenos, dois divórcios, dívidas. Sem muito a perder e um gênio de quem não leva nenhum desaforo pra casa, consegue uma oportunidade de emprego em um escritório de advocacia. Arquivando documentos, ela se depara com uma situação dramática de moradores de uma cidade no deserto que vinham sofrendo consequências na saúde com a contaminação da única fonte de água local. A mulher de gênio duro, mas de grande sensibilidade e humanidade, não se conforma com o tratamento dado a essas pessoas e começa coletar provas para denunciar a empresa. Por não ter uma formação acadêmica, por seu jeito de falar e se vestir, ela é bastante desacreditada e até humilhada. Mas, não há quem segure uma mulher dona de si e que abraça uma causa. Ela nem sabia onde podia chegar. Não conhecia os seus talentos. Só queria justiça para aquelas pessoas fragilizadas e desamparadas. Ela fez para outras famílias o que gostaria que fosse feito para si. Ela fez para si algo que ninguém mais poderia fazer: perseguiu o seu desenvolvimento, colocou os seus talentos a serviço. Aprendeu o que foi preciso. Ela apostou em si e transbordou o seu potencial! Não criou justificativas para parar em seus obstáculos. Me pergunto sempre: quando saberei se conquistei tudo o que posso? Como saber se estou usando todo o meu potencial? Não tenho resposta, mas me sinto uma transbordante! Sei que acredito nas pessoas, aposto nelas, me dou pra elas: filhos, família, pessoas que buscam ajuda... Me realizo nesse transbordar, nessa doação. Penso que o segredo é não parar de sonhar, nem deixar adormecer nossas capacidades por acomodação, baixa auto-estima, falta de autoconhecimento... é esse o nosso combustível. Ter a certeza de que merecemos e já temos tudo para superarmos quaisquer expectativas. A recompensa milionária e merecida, sem dúvida, valeu a pena para Erin. Uno de los proyectos que teníamos para este año era una nueva colección de plaquettes experimentales y textos de memoria llamada Pikún. El trabajo de avance de esta colección se ha visto mermado por la contingencia y las serias dudas que el mundo del libro enfrenta y enfrentará luego que acabe la pandemia. Es por eso que hoy, después dar muchas vueltas en círculos, queremos contarles que se ha ido imprenta el primer título de esta colección: Procrastinación de la autora canadiense Meredith Grace Thompson @meredithgracethompson (Edmonton 🇨🇦, 1990). Poeta y ensayista. Estudió filosofía en la Universidad de Concordia, Montreal y posee un magíster en escritura creativa por la Universidad de Glasgow. Su trabajo se enfoca en el cuestionamiento meditativo. Algunas de sus obras han sido publicadas en Sound-Noise (2011), GNU Journal (2018), Her Hear Poetry (2017), SPAM Zine (2019), The Dallas Review (2020) entre otros. The 340 page book is being published in conjunction with the exhibition @livingthecity.eu curated by myself, @tat_schneider and @thegreeneyl at the former airport in Tempelhof, Berlin, which runs from 25. September to 20. December 2020. Our September issue is out now! On the cover this month is British-Nigerian designer @yinka_ilori’s Project Earth installation for @theofficialselfridges that features three shops windows called ‘Dedications to Earth’ - each one offering a view of a natural landscape created using every day materials. The installations also evoke messages of hope. The cover features sun-disks, each one “dedicated to every new sunrise that gives us a chance to make a change”. The cover is also part of this month’s Colour Issue, which explores the nature of colour within design, architecture and art - be it to enhance a narrative, express a culture, or entice a sense of hope and positivity. Jaqueline Casey (1927-1992) is best known for her striking, Swiss-inspired posters that include bold typography and rich use of grid and contrast. Today, on September 21st, we remember one of the darkest eras of Philippine history however, it is also the era of resistance against fascism and growing movement against imperialism as repression breeds resistance. 48 years ago today, Ferdinand Marcos declared Proclamation No. 1081 placing the entire Philippines under Martial law. The Marcos regime shutdown Congress, major media outlets, arrested and tortured anyone that opposed the regime. Filipino youth and students bore the brunt as campuses became the primary targets of the proclamation--student councils were outlawed; student papers were censored or harassed; military agents routinely monitored campuses. It was the growing youth and student movement and their unwearying fight for social change that led to Marcos declaring martial law. What started as a fight for education and student freedom, grew into a comprehensive mass movement that fought for the rights and welfare of all sectors of Philippine society, and birthed the revolutionary mass organizations Kabataang Makabayan and MAKIBAKA (Malayang Kilusan ng Bagong Kababaihan). They were among the most militant groups to denounce the corruption and negligence of the puppet-president Ferdinand Marcos. They raised the issue that the Philippines is plagued by the outside interference of former colonial powers like the United States. They raised the issue that the peasant and working class were used and abused for a failing economy. they raised the fact that Marcos did not know how to govern such a situation. And they raised that the only way for the Filipino people to survive was to unite under the banner for a national democratic revolution. Now, almost fifty years since proclamation 1081, because of the brutality of martial law, the billions of pesos stolen from the Filipino people by the Marcoses, and the slew of ugly successors to the presidency, the Philippines continue to face the same injustices!
