Quick Update about Bruno.. He was not doing well the last 2 days, was super weak and had a very low body temperature. Fortunately we found a donor and today Bruno was stable enough for his blood transfusion. The whole procedure just finished and his heart beats, breathing rate and also the body temperature is normal. No sign of rejection until this moment. And also he tried to lift up the head after the transfusion.😍 Big thank you to Agathe who helped out with her 2 great dogs Paulo and Jess. Her silky soft ears, shiny black bottom lip and gentle nature drew me to her. I think it took about five minutes before I started to think uh oh, I like this one. I had no plans if getting another dog. In three weeks she was arriving in Ontario. She settled in immediately. Playing with her big brother and enjoying the big cozy dog bed. Shes missing a back leg but it doesnt hold her back. It took a little time, but she mastered the stairs. She swims! And after learning the stairs, it took about a minute for her to figure out the ramp to get up on a bed. The first one put her in a drop box at the shelter, alone at night. 😢 The second one tried to “return” her for a different breed. 😠 We’re so thankful she finally found her way to us. As I’ve said many times before she’s the sweetest angel we’ve ever had. She’s gotten a little barky in her old age, but who can blame her? Her battles with IVDD, a high grade heart murmur, and most recently a seizure, haven’t phased her. She just bounces back time and time again reassuring us she isn’t going anywhere! It shows a complete lack of regard for personal boundaries and space. It shows a sense of entitlement and an inability to control oneself. And maybe, just maybe, the owner doesn’t want their dog to find value in the praise and attention of strangers. Have you ever seen a dog that is way too excited in public and wants to jump on every single person he sees? It’s because he finds more value in strangers or other animals than his own handler. • But also, approaching a stranger’s dog without consent is dangerous. You don’t know the dogs history, you don’t know the issues the owner has spent days, weeks, months, or years working on, you aren’t aware of possible triggers. After 2.5 years later our trio has finally landed in San Francisco for a chance to find loving forever homes they have waited for so long. No one showed any interest in adopting these babies in Turkey. Paytak, Testere and ZipZip originally pulled from a shelter when they were puppies. They needed life saving treatments. Their original rescuer sent them to Istanbul for treatment and boarding in the hope they would find homes, but never did. They reached out to us to help find them homes and I reached out to my contacts in the USA who have agreed to take them in to find the homes they so deserve on our behalf. It was a military style organization getting them ready for travels. It always involves an army of international helpers to do this. So here is the list of people I am so grateful for and have been part of their journey. 💜The lady who pulled them out of the horrible shelter 2.5 years ago. She knows who she is. 💜Esra and Salih for looking after them since they were puppies and preparing them for travels 💜Katie @angelsforanimalsfoundation for putting me in touch with contacts in the USA 💜Sharon @must.love.pups.co for finding me the rescue groups to take the dogs in. She has also driven all the way from Colorado to pick them at the SFO airport. Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit @Carl_dogs in Ventura County. They are a 501c3 non-profit, all breed, no-kill dog rescue & adoption organization. They primarily serve Ventura County dogs because they make a lifelong commitment to them. @carl_dogs has many dogs, both big & small, available for adoption. They also could use 1/2 “ slip leads & Nutra Nugget Lamb & Rice dog food. They’ll always accept treats (made in USA & no rawhide). They can certainly use volunteers to walk all their dogs & help in the play yard. They can also board your personal pet if you’re away for work or vacation, for a very reasonable price. The Chippiparai is a single-coloured sighthound breed of dog from Tamil Nadu found in the areas of Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Madurai. Black, tan, and sable versions are called Kanni.🐾🐕🦺 Here are some facts about Chippiparai❗ ♦️Chippiparais are sight hounds, and have eyes positioned in such a way as to give them a 270 degree scope of vision – much more than most other breeds. But the first thing you’ll notice is how skinny they are. Worry not, they have not been starved! Most of their weight is from their muscles and bones, and not from body fat. ♦️Perfect for Indian weather ♦️Good guard dog and watchdog for the family ♦️Chippiparais have short coats and do not require much grooming. You can brush them once or twice a week. Like most breeds, they love being massaged, so they will never complain about being brushed with a soft brush or a hound mitt. ♦️Chippiparais are generally healthy but, like all dogs, are prone to some generic and genetic conditions. Hip Dysplasia is a common condition amongst Chippiparais, where the thigh bone does not fit in snugly at the hip joint. Dogs will express pain or exhibit lameness in one or both hind legs, if they are suffering from hip dysplasia. This condition can be managed with medication if mild, and surgery if extreme. ♦️Chippiparais are known for their loyalty towards the family and they are intelligent and devoted dogs. While they are by no means unfriendly, they can seem a little reserved in the beginning. Don’t worry, this is just the Chippiparai taking his or her time to warm up to you. ♦️Chippiparai can adapt to any kind of living environment, whether an apartment or a house. However, the ideal living space for this breed would be a house with a large, fenced-in yard. Make sure the fences are tall though; this agile dog can jump right over a six or seven foot fence! ♦️Training Chippiparais is much easier when compared to the other hounds, owing to their immense intelligence and desire to please. In these videos, people intentionally frighten their dogs, one man even caused his dog to scream and urinate in fear. Most of the comments thought the gag was hilarious since the dog wasnt hurt. Heres what most people dont understand. No matter how silly the fear may seem to us, it is very real to the dog. - It doesnt matter that we know the mask were wearing, the broom were pushing, or the person petting our dog poses no threat. If the dog is behaving in a way that indicates fear, the dog is experiencing fear. - The same fear a dog would feel if he were being attacked by a predator. - When a dog perceives a threat, the sympathetic nervous system kicks into high gear, releasing out the hormones responsible for fight or flight: adrenaline, cortisol, and norepinephrine. Short term, these increase the chance of survival. Long-term or repeated releases of these hormones can lead to serious health problems. Fear CAN hurt. - This process is the same for us when we hear someone break into our house in the middle of the night. Is it silly to be afraid when the burglar has no intention of causing us physical harm? No, its not silly. We dont know their intent. All we know is that people who break into houses arent there to serve us tea. And our brains prepare us for fight or flight. - However, there is one distinct difference between us and dogs, as noted by Gavin de Becker in his book, The Gift of Fear: “Only human beings can look directly at something, have all the information they need to make an accurate prediction....and then say that it isnt so.” Dogs cant do that. THE DOGS OF 9/11 🇺🇸 RILEY This search and rescue Golden Retriever was from FEMA’s Pennsylvania Task Force. Riley’s passing in 2010 inspired a study of the long-term effects on this type of rigorous search and rescue work on canine health. APOLLO German Shepherd Apollo (NYPD K-9 Urban Search and Rescue) and his handler, Peter Davis, were the first K-9 search and rescue team to answer the call on 9/ 11, arriving at the South Tower merely 15 minutes after its collapse. Apollo looked for survivors 18 hours a day for weeks on end. He earned one of the first AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence (ACE) in 2001 as well as the Dickin Medal on behalf of all Patriot Day search and rescue dogs. SAGE Sage was a 2 year old search and rescue Border Collie when she and her handler, Diane Whetsel, worked the Pentagon after the 9/11 attacks. Sage won the highest-level recognition from FEMA Search and the Rescue Award for Canine Excellence. She and her handler also rescued animals stranded by Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Katrina and deployed to Iraq in 2007. Sage passed away in 2012 at the age of 13. BRETAGNE Bretagne (Brit-nee) and her owner-handler Denise Corliss worked 12-hour shifts on rescue and recovery for 10 days straight after the attacks on September 11. Bretagne began training at 8 weeks old, making her a lifelong veteran of rescue missions including Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ivan.She retired at age 9, and helped local first-graders as a reading assistance dog. Bretagne passed at 16 in Texas, where she was saluted by representatives from the armed forces and local fire departments. TRAKR Trakr, a German Shepherd, and his Canadian police officer and handler, James Symington found the last remaining survivor from the World Trade Center after she had been trapped for 26 hours. TIME magazine named him 6th on their list of Top 10 Heroic Animals.Trakr won the BioArts International contest and was cloned five times before his passing in 2009 at the age of 14. The Trakr puppy clones (Trustt, Solace, Valor, Prodigy, and Deja Vu) continue Trakr’s legacy. All started their training as search and rescue dogs in 2011.
