Furthermore, we are devastated that the Met has not found ways to engage the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra during this closure - especially when the Met Stars series shows that there is a possibility for collaboration. Many orchestras across the country are performing in adapted ways, continuing to connect to their valued audience members and communities. This is Mavis Gbewonyo (my Mum). This photo was taken in 1971 when she worked at St. Jamess Hospital in London. She moved to UK in 1969 and went straight into Nursing School and worked for a year before applying to do Midwifery and then the premature baby class. She didnt end up practicing Midwifery in the end as shed had my 2 older brothers by that time. Midwifery would have meant working day duty for three months and she wouldnt be able to look after them so she opted for General nursing where she could work night duty. (Side note I have many memories of my brothers and I trying and failing not to disturb Mum as she caught a few hours sleep after night duty while we played, Dads shushes werent very effective - soz Mama 😆🙈) She went on to work at a number of hospitals including Mayday (now Croydon University Hospital). Following a three year break when we moved to Ghana she returned to UK but unable to pick up where she left off switched to care nursing. She eventually retrained and became a sexual health nurse until she retired. My Mum shared one of the many racially charged experiences she went through in her career. This one was a direct attempt to sabotage the careers of her and the other black nurses in her cohort. After the nursing exams the Matron made appointments with all the white nurses to discuss potential posts. Mum thought theyd forgotten about her so booked an appointment to see the Matron herself. After the meeting she realised that was a mistake. The matron had no interest in supporting the black nurses. Feeling blessed to live in one of the safest places in New Jersey. Avalon, Stone Harbor and Sea Isle combining for only 8 active cases total at the moment and 0 fatalities from Covid. Also one of the safest counties- recording 28 fatalities (of 86 total deaths in county) outside of nursing homes since the beginning of the pandemic. With a year round population of about 91,000 and summer population in the hundreds of thousands, it is good news that our area has been relatively safe. State wide we are seeing (if you count all the recorded hospitalizations as purely covid based) up to 450 people in the hospital- .005% of state population. UP: After Hathras, another 22-Yr old Dalit woman brutalised in Balrampur According to local reports, a 22-year-old Dalit woman was gang-raped after being given an injection. After raping her, the unidentified accused broke her both legs before killing her. The woman was a college student and was returning home after taking admission for the new session. Balrampur Police said on Twitter that two accused have been arrested. It said the claim of both legs being broken is not true as it was not confirmed in the postmortem report. SP Balrampur Dev Ranjan Verma said a written complaint was filed at the Gainsdi Police Station in Balrampur District wherein the family members said their kin who worked at a private firm in the area, did not return home on time on Tuesday The family members tried to take the girl to the hospital but she succumbed on her way. They have named two boys in the written complaint and have alleged rape. The police acted immediately on the complaint and have arrested both the culprits, said Verma. Garden City Company Fourth in this series by Suzie Alvey. It features the next developer of Garden City. After Garden Citys founder, Alexander Turney Stewart passed away in 1876, Cornelia Clinch Stewart, his widow, continued his goal of turning it into a planned community. She died in 1886. The Stewarts had no children, so her heirs were on her brother, James J. Clinchs side and her three half sisters side: Emma, Julia and Louise Clinch, as well as Henry Hilton, her lawyer. Her relatives inherited property in New York City and about 7,500 square acres of the Hempstead Plains, including our nascent town, with a value at the time of $2,500,000. It would equal $70 million in cash today. However, factoring in the value of real estate in New York City and those 7,500 square acres now, it would be worth much more in 2020, probably in the billions. Cornelias relatives formed the Garden City Company in 1893 to continue our towns development. 5,000 acres east of Clinton Road out to Bethpage were empty. The land was divided and incorporated as the Hempstead Plains Company and The Merillon Estates. The remaining 2,600 acres west of Clinton Road and east of Old Garden City became the Eastern Section under the Garden City Company. The officers and directors of the Garden City Company were Charles Clinch, James Clinch Smith, Devereux Emmet, Frank Sayre Osborne, Stanford White, Maxwell Butler, Horace Russell and Allen Evarts. These names are recognizable to residents: Clinch Avenue and Stewart Avenue were named after Cornelia Clinch Stewart and Alexander Turney Stewart, of course. Concerned over the rising number of coronavirus cases, the Rajasthan government on Saturday decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in 11 districts of the state. The state has 33 districts and the provision prohibits an assembly of more than five persons at a place. According to a release, the government also decided to continue the ban on social or religious functions till October 31. However, the permission for 20 people at funerals and 50 in marriage functions will continue. The decisions were taken in a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the release said. In view of alarming situation regarding coronavirus, it was decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur, the release said. People will have to wear masks and follow social distancing norms. Padahal tak sedikit korban yang memang shock & ketakutan jika menerima tindakan pelecehan seksual. Itu adalah kejadian traumatis bagi korban! Dan berani-beraninya kalian malah menuduh korban menikmati. Lebih sedih lagi, bisa-bisanya perempuan justru ikut menyalahkan perempuan. Di mana hati kalian? Dua hari terakhir saya aktif bangun komunikasi dengan Lisa secara pribadi. Saya dan PSI menawarkan bantuan pendampingan pemulihan & pendampingan hukum. Saya ingin Lisa tau bahwa ia tak sendiri. Before I met Kay, I was convinced that I was okay with being single forever. I had tried plenty of times and it always failed. Sometimes because I wasn’t ready, but others because not a soul embodied what I truly wanted/needed in a partner. Well before I knew she existed, I created a list of all the important qualities and characteristics that I wanted in a spouse. I tucked it away and never thought about it again. And then I met Kay. Within hours of talking to her, I quickly learned that she was the epitome of my dream woman. We were on the same page about EVERYTHING. From what we wanted in a relationship, how many kids we wanted...and the list continues. She said to me “if you can’t give me this, this, and this...don’t waste either of ours time.” At that moment I understood that if I wanted to be with her, I needed to humble myself and allow myself to feel and go through whatever this relationship would bring me. Spoiler alert: we’re married now. I knew that in order for us to work, I had to lead her with love, kindness, patience, security, and vulnerability. I had to let her know that I wasn’t going anywhere and that she was more than enough. I had to show up every day to prove myself. When I did that without batting an eye, when I wanted more for her than I did myself I knew this was the end game....she was my one. Some may argue and say I put her on a pedestal, but don’t we all want someone who not only says but shows they love us? My number 1 goal is to fill her to the brim with love so that she never has to question or doubt a single thing. And as long as she’s happy....that’s the be all end all.
