Im grateful to have spent one of my last days of summer on set 😁🎬 The last few months have brought on so many changes in my life both personally and in work. The transition to self tapes and working from home has taught me so much about who I am as a performer. Its forced me to watch myself acting on tape, to learn the more technical aspects of putting together a self tape and to learn how to hone my craft through Zoom and in a room of fellow students in masks at a safe 6 feet away. And Im a much better performer because of it! A special thanks to my @havenstudio_acting teachers, @BenjaminRatner for continuing to challenge me with roles that are so unlike myself and @NelsonWongActs for stepping up my Self Tape game and encouraging us to watch and learn from our tapes in class! And what an incredibly powerful and eye-opening morning it was to listen and and learn from residential school survivors. 150,000 Indigenous children were sent to residential schools (with the last one closing in 1996). The accounts of what happened while there, are unthinkable and heartbreaking. Among their findings: the president paid no income taxes in 11 of the 18 years that the Times examined. The year he became president he paid $750 in income taxes. No, that’s not missing any zeros. And, as president he received more money from foreign sources than previously known. There’s a lot to unpack here about transparency, about fairness, potential criminality, and what these sources of money mean for our national security. But allow me to underscore one point that others I admire have made: The president often accuses undocumented immigrants of taking more from America than they give. In 2015, undocumented immigrants paid $23,600,000,000 in federal income taxes (Yes, that’s a lot of zeros. In case your brain, like mine, cannot process that big a number - it is billions). Yesterday, I finished a chapter in my book. It was my last day on-air with CBS Philly. I have nothing but gratitude to the station who took on a young journalist and helped shape her and allowed her to grow. The last two years have been nothing short of an amazing opportunity and a great stop on my path. To my morning team (on and off the screen), I loved working with all of you. It really says something when coworkers turn into great friends. Thank you for allowing me to learn from you. The pleasure was truly all mine. For the followers and viewers who have turned into fans and friends, I thought this post was necessary because I am always honest with you. 5 years ago my plans of moving to LA were destroyed. I found out I had breast cancer the day I was planning on LA house shopping. After having surgery I was told my test results were great and I would not have to do chemo.LA plans back on! A week later, another call, changed their mind and they want me to do aggressive chemo. I decide to go to LA and meet with Dr.’s out here. I know God will give me clarity of where to live and do my treatment. First LA Dr. says no chemo. Second Dr. says no chemo. Found my dream home in LA later that afternoon. Listen to God! He speaks to us so clearly. We just have to listen. Today is my 5 year mark! I’m cancer free AND I live in LA. Aloha everyone! My name is Malika Dudley and I’m doing an IG takeover of the alumni account. I’m a Big Island girl from Papaikou that graduated from Hilo High School in 2000. My sisters still live there but I moved to Maui about seven years ago. I’m a 2004 graduate of UH-Manoa with degrees in French and Communicology (the study of human communication). I started my MA in 2004 but after a year became Miss Hawaii and paused my education. Then, I took a complete 180 and was hired by KGMB9 news (later Hawaii News Now) to do weather and enrolled in the three year Broadcast Meteorology distance learning program at Mississippi State. Fast-forward to today, I was just hired as KITV4 Island News newest meteorologist. I’m so excited to be a part of Hawaii’s most credentialed weather team (both Paul and Pete are meteorologists as well) and make my debut this weekend on Good Morning Hawaii weekends! Getting comfortable in front of the camera and speaking in public is one of the most powerful tools I have to communicate my story. I got asked during a podcast interview with @unboxed.podcast why I choose to be the face of my brands. It’s the obvious choice to me, as a start up 10 years ago I didn’t have the financial budget to go down traditional routes of advertising and telling my story and communicating my mission and being vulnerable felt so natural to me to promote what I do and to (sounds cliche) get people inspired to go after what they want. I always felt attracted to role models who told their story, who spoke truth, who over shared and stepped out of their scripts to really connect with an audience. If your embarking on your career or have a small business use all means necessary to deliver your message and that means becoming comfortable talking to the press, sharing your insights on social, and doing interviews. People love stories, they love real ness, they love to learn from others experiences. So fun to be at the Dallas International Film Festival 🎬pandemic style with a drive-in screening of @surgethemovie for its Texas premiere🇨🇱. It’s also my first time watching SURGE on a massive 60-foot screen and with a live audience other than my family. COVID has made the film rollout really weird and entirely virtual, so this was an amazing night to be with people in real life and back in Texas where I filmed @janalynnetx’s inspiring run for Congress for two years.
